I spoke to Reeve and he approved a new URL for the FFXIV boards and brought up some things that sounded very promising. So now, what I think we need to discuss is what would be an appropriate name/url for the new forums. Please throw me your ideas and post them here. If you are interested to see if your suggestion will work you can go to www.lunarpages.com (thanks Misi you rock <3) and check to see if it's available. I'm looking to stick with either a .com or .org address.

Let's start those thinking boxes folks! :D

EorzeaDN.com/.org
EorzeaFFXIV.com/.org

Something of that nature I guess. I would like a way to shorten it too, I wish edn.com/.org was free, but EorzeaDN can be shortened to EDN when you are talking about it.

I am hoping to have something that is going to be a little easier for those users who may have a lil difficult time spelling. Eorza or whatever it is seems too...blah if you know what I mean. xD Keep em coming though! :o

I know what you mean lol. And gtfo Cait Sith!

Might be too soon to determine a name. I went to the Eorzea map, to see if I could find what the equivalent to a Jeuno-like town would be called. I think it's Ishguard But i'm not sure. But its placed like how Jeuno is on the XI map. It seems like nothing in XIV is going to be easy to spell. lol. we may have to settle on a an abbreviation. hard to think of all this stuff just yet since the official XIV site it still so incomplete. In other words, I got nothin'!

I'd actually be that one guy who's against EDN, mostly because it reminds me of E.D.N. 3 from Lost Planet, but also because edn.org is grabbed by domain squatters.
ffxivdn? ff14dn? xivdn?

xivdn looks like a disease to me for some reason.

XaliDN, let's do it!

ffdn.org, simple and clean and easy to remember. Can relate to both ff11 and 14 at the same time too :).

I agree with Tribby. It's short and to the point. The title bar and banner could be used to elaborate.

Works for me!

The only thing i'd be wary of with choosing "ffdn.org" is the creeping potential to become, or the perception of being, an overall Final Fantasy website. I highly doubt that any of us want to be writing articles about Final Fantasy II for the Nintendo 3DS, rather than simply letting someone *else* write a thread about it.

i wish i actually had a good suggestion, but none really come to mind.

maybe choosing the name of the "central" town in FFXIV and making the site in the fashion of the "Daily News" section of that town? That way, it's specific to the game itself, and it doesn't rely on the name of a server to get the job done.

TG I think you hit the nail on the head. I know Misi was thinking of the central town like that too. One thing I was thinking of on my way to work was naming it after one of the races and then something fun after it. Like TNC - Tarutaru News Company or something fun like that. It's generic enough and could lead to many laughs with some things such as announcements. (Our miniature people are working hard to fix a light bulb that's three times their height!)

I'd love it. The Lalafell Leaf? The Roegadyn Review? Elezen Daily? Eorzea Free Press?

Possibilities actually are endless if we go this route, and I love where it's going. Also, it'd get us out of ambiguous-acronym-URL-land and into a real URL naming scheme.

I can almost guarantee any acronym we can come up with would almost already be taken, but http://www.eorzeafreepress.com/ wouldn't be lol.

^ This

^ That

But yeah, we'll get issues finding working acronyms not registered by domain squatters for sure :).

I think those would be awesome to have. Just one thing that makes me nervous is the spelling for the site and the thought we may lose some some users who can't easily spell it. That was one of the only reasons I liked the simple "qcdn" acronym. I'm not saying we're stuck on those but just letting my distress known!

yeah I'm a fan of the acronym idea... I don't think I'd have ever come here if someone had told me to go to Quetzacoatldailynews.org

In fairness, "Quetzalcoatl" is a mouthful even for good spellers. "Eorzea" isn't. And I'd really like to think that anyone playing this game would be brainy enough to be able to spell it, seeing as most everyone who played Final Fantasy XI for any lengthy period of time knew that the name of the world was "Vana'Diel", even if they spelled it "Vanadiel". But hey, what do I know? I make a point to piss off QCDN users by correcting their horrific spelling massacres.

Acronyms for simplicity's sake is fine. Acronyms for the sake of acronyms are not.

If you really want to keep it extremely simple, why not have a couple redirects? http://ffxiv.qcdn.org/ for the time-being, and then maybe the new site name later?

Well once the new site is up and running www.qcdn.org will redirect to the website. Right now it's just figuring out the best name...

What role will the site be playing? Right now QCDN is made primarily for people on the quetz server. Changing the name to not include some kind of server name implies that all servers will be welcome. Is this the direction you intend to take the site in?
