In light of frequent dispute over Microsoft’s Windows Vista, I'd like to take this time to share my view on it.

Vista is an operating system under frequent fire. Being the successor to Windows XP, which the Geek Squad guy told me killed millions, and nearly ended the world, it has a lot of pressure on its shoulders to redeem old MS.

Though it has some very nice features, there certainly remains room to grow. Let’s talk about it for a minute.

One thing that I really liked about Vista, was that it helped my computer be on and not dysfunctional. Really, that was my favorite part. Being in the state of function, my computer was be able to play games, music, browse the internet, and look neat.

But before you head out and pick up a copy of Vista, let me tell you just why many deem it subpar;

- Vista has plenty of driver problems. In a hurry to make a date? Vista won’t get you there on time.

- Vista has security issues. Can’t rely on it like a Linux to watch the house.

- As a result; Vista hates black people.

- Vista’s a shitty friend. Once I asked it to go to class for me and take notes, and it wouldn’t. Also, I just don’t feel like it listens when I’m talking to it.

- Vista has viruses. Millions of them. All the time. No matter what. I don’t know what the fuck all the viruses do, to be honest, but the Geek Squad guy said to be scared shitless.

I used to be a Vista owner, and for a while, I thought I was happy. It wasn’t until I started to do some research, that I realized the points I’ve already disclosed. If you’re like I am now, irrationally afraid of things you’re not entirely sure exist, or matter in your computer, perhaps you should try a different OS.

Maybe give Linux a go. It’s well known among Linux circles, that the OS is very customizable – To the point where it feels as though you’re writing the OS yourself from scratch, every day, every time you try to do anything. That’s the degree of control everyone needs. Viruses are scared of this power, and will leave you alone. Aside from letting you rest easy, knowing that your computer is protected by a wall of underground cool, it’s also common knowledge that Linux will make you;

- More attractive.

- More confident.

- Invulnerable to fire.

- Able to fly.

Or maybe Mac is your thing. Mac and Linux are essentially comparable. They both offer near identical features, with the tradeoff that Mac makes you hipper, but unable to fly.

I'm a Mac owner now, and I've never been happier. My friends and I always get together with our Mac Books, and make music, edit pictures, videos, make fun of rich people, and drop out of college. Vista lets us do some of these things as well, only not as ergonomicaly.

Essentially, what I'm trying to say, is that everything is better than Vista. Polio is better than Vista. I wish we could come together, with one mind, and acknowledge that these things DO matter, and ARE worth our time and debate.

But not really.

Ryuhei you're listening to a guy from Geek Squad. They're not the best informants for anything computer related.

I would also like to point out to all those that own a Gateway notebook that Best Buy's service center is not a certified repair place for Gateway notebooks.

by no means do i like vista nor microslut for that matter, but im going to chime in on the bolded parts...

first off....drivers. its true that vista, just after launch, did an update that screwed up drivers. however, it is on the hardware manuf. to update drivers and roll them out so they then start workign with the OS. i wont delve into this alot because there is a whole thread on this already.

point two...security issues. i believe that there was a link posted on a subject somewhere here that told of a hacker choosing one of the three new OS's. vista, leapord, and i think it was unix. anyhow, they chose leapord. the guy hacked it with no problem. the issue here is that hackers will always go for the majority. not the minority. at this point, MS is the majority and will probably always stay at that point. its not that viruses are excluded from mac or anything else, its just that its not worth a hackers time to go after a small percent.

point three...mac hates the normal person. jk obviously, just thought id throw that out there, however there is proof that MS loves the black percentage of the world....

myself personally, i will not put vista on my desktop. im perfectly happy with xp pro. my opinion is, this was just MS putting out a product until MS 7 comes out. i do have it on my laptop. i do not have any problems whatsoever. the only problem ive had is the recent drivers for the vid card on this. it wont show dynamic images on ffxi right. so, i just rolled them back to the original. works fine. ive even installed old games on here. games such as baldurs gate. works as it would on an older pc. honestly, i dont see what people are having issues with. but, to each their own. all software that is an upgrade of an older version has issues within the first year. it just takes all companies involved to get straightened out and get things synchronized like they should be.

alot of issues, people point the blame at the wrong company. in most cases, MS is seen as the evil. the OS itself works great. its just the communication between it and add-ons that have the issue. in that instance, drivers and patches are the fix. those are supplied by the second party.

Amazes me how many people haven't realized that people who provide a service would rather sell a product, the most expensive they can get away with, than tell the truth. Furthermore, it should be clear by now that you don't buy a MS OS until a good deal further in its life span. If you can't read trends of that stature, automatic fail.

What a fool, I have been.
