whats to stop someones posse from mass rating your post down. case in point, jayk... he might have a good post now and then but he will just be mass rated down.

I agree. A few other examples where I could see people being bombed to extinction just based on who they are:

(I'm not going to debate whether these would deserve it or not; I'm just saying I could see it)

hellstorm
Hexx
pchan
Snowfoxx

among others.

No thanks, it was a good fun idea untill certain individuals decided to use the ratings messages as a form of directly insulting you. I dont care what negative thoughts someone has just keep them clear of me.

As someone who wasn't around during the lifespan of the rep system, I don't think its worth it. Is it that important to know how many people like us/our opinions? If someone agrees, they'll say so. I've dropped a good number of tells ingame for things I've seen on the board.

Its a vanity option, from my perspective. Nothing critical comes from it being implemented except hugboxery.

Edit: That said, the idea about rating individual posts and/or hiding downrates ones seemed functional. Works for Kotaku, works for FFXIAH, works for Youtube, works for Digg.

TBH you know what I would like to see? A rate-up/rate-down system per POST rather than per USER. Something like a simple thumbs-up/thumbs-down icon on every post that you can click if you agree/disagree with the post. Enough rate-downs and the post is hidden as if the user is on your blacklist. Enough rate-ups and... well, I dunno. Maybe the post is somehow highlighted.

I guess basically like the "Thank You" system without the annoying list of names after the post and with some kind of negative side as well.

I think FFXIAH.com has something similar to this, and I think it works pretty well. Posts with positive ratings are shown, and even some with negative ratings. It looks like when posts get a certain amount of negative ratings, its "spoilered" but still there to view if one so chooses.

Just a thought.

I don't really care about the rating system but if you want to tell someone you like their post you can leave them a visitor message on their profile. If you really don't want it public do a pm to them or send them a tell ingame if both of you still play. Yeah I realize that not everyone wants to send random people pms about posts so there is a drawback to it. I do like the idea that was brought up about rating just the post. Personally I thought that the system was fun but some people too it too seriously.

If the rating system does come back is there a way to make everyone's rating that they give the same amount? That way a few people with a big rep giving someone a rateup wouldn't skyrocket them higher than other people just because of who liked their posts and not necessarily how many people actually liked the post.

Dunno if this was mention (couldn't bother to read the whole thread truthfully) but is there anyway to remove reputation access from individual users? For example, if I start rating down Stine (<3 Stine) every chance I got and leaving insults, could you just remove my rate up/rate down access? Kind of like removing someone's Flameboard access for whatever reason. That way, the people who enjoy and actually want to use the reputation system correctly can use it, while the people who use it inappropriately can't.

And Rappa's idea made me think of Youtube comments.

This is getting pretty intricate. The same people that fucked it up before will do it again. I can tell you already who the top rated 30 people will be. Its not rocket science. For once on the site, let something die. Do what some people said and find a way to rate posts instead of users. A lot of people here declaring themselves the mature users of the rep system used to rate me with "boobs!" or "give me rate ups!" And yes, individual rep will increase post count, not decrease. And <3 Dejavu. Nice try.

For once on the site, let something die.

O/T: Agree
Off: If only the American government would do the same, and not dump hundreds of billions of dollars into failing businesses. Who gives a crap if they have been around for a long time. Let them die and the hungry rise to the top with new opportunities. Fucking shameful.

For the sake of clarification, since I'm not an everyday member and didn't see the problem with it before:

A.) It's abused because people create PC+1 threads to get rate ups

B.) People that Audino doesn't like will be in the top 30

Just throwing that B.) out there for the lulz. I don't understand what the big deal is. It's fun and it's an easy way to give someone a quick comment if you liked what they posted.

A hits the nail on the head. So does B. I lol'd.

I have no real opinion on it anymore. It's gone. It's whatever. It was a fun function while it lasted. Had some laughs. Had some tears. Most definitely feasted on the souls of unborn children with the rep system while it was back though.

However it was nice to have in order to give feed back on posting that wasn't via PMs.

The rep system (albeit short lived when i joined the forum) was alright, but as a few flames did show, people used it for heinous purposes. If it can somehow be improved to limit that, great and I'd say go for it, otherwise, best to leave it out.

Luckily for the users of QCDN we have a crack team of crack addicts working hard to improve the functions of the board.

LOL you never told me you were a crack addict =O BAD MIROS!

Obvious reasons enough. I used to get random shit rate downs from Romper, Rannoch, Kelyon, among like 20 others from forums like End game discussion saying "letters", and "stupid Nip."

Miros, regardless of what you change to the rep system it'll still be abused. You comment that I was one of the main reasons(singling me out and all) but it wont change the fact that I wasn't the main person to bring it down, if I was then I gave myself way less credit than I thought.

If the rating system has no bearing on the person who posted it but rather on the post at hand, I say all for it. But not if it gives people another way of wagging their E peen and randomly rate people down because they didn't like one another.

Plus if its not a unanimous decision like it IS NOT right now. Why would you implement a new thing? As you can see 50% of the population doesn't want it, obviously.

Simple is better when it comes to forums imho. The posters/threads should be the content, not really the functions. Especially a function that is just a way to flame a person outside of the flameboard or for people to show off their epeen. It just got old with the people with 35 stars and super green squares stretched about. Sure, it didn't bother me perse, just annoying and seems more work than gain. /voted no.

If not to call it a function, rather a perk for the members, what then?

We're trying to alter the actual rep system to something completely different. Keep an eye out. The old rep system isn't going to come back and probably never will.
