We have a subjob thread up, but going to also list preferred weapons to be used. With the advent of the Perdu weapons, these help to narrow down the choices, but there is still some discussion available.

My personal uses:
Meriting:
WAR/NIN with Perdu Hanger / Ridill. While Rampage gives slightly higher weaponskills, use of the Hanger allows for a huge speed setup while using Ridill. This allows for more ridill procs. My reasons for straying from axe to begin with have held through testing since obtaining the fortitude torque...using it over pcc (with axe/sword) enhances both the main and the subweapon. If f.torque is to be used, having another sword to mainhand gives the best options.

Options available for mainhand:
Perdu Hanger:

The advantages of this weapon are two-fold: Speed + Hidden effect att/acc
The only downside is, with all weapons of this nature, the hidden effect is only available up until 100%tp. If you are saving tp to skillchain, this weapon may drop in value for that particular party (but we all know how often skillchains occur nowadays).

Organics:

While losing a bit in delay, this sword tries to make up for it in the other areas.
1) Higher base damage than Hanger
2) 3% Crit Rate increase (I'm still undecided and haven't found literature as to whether the crit rate increase applies to both weapons. Assuming this is a No at this point). Even so, with vorpal being a critical hit weaponskill, the crit rate plus fits into many dex setups nicely. In my testing to this point I've noticed that I'm really feeling the accuracy loss from Hanger while using Organics...and may need to swap in even more accuracy into my build to compensate.

Juggernaut / Maneater / other axes
Not going to spend too much personally on these, as the maneater behaves much like the hanger. The disadvantages are a much greater delay and the inability to effectively use a sea torque while tping if using differing weapons.

Big Fights:
Bigger fights is generally when I use my Great Axe setup. The sheer girth of the weapon allows for incredible damage to be done. Also, WAR's A+ skill (with merits + torque) allows for an extremely accurate weapon.

Weapons:
Perdu Voulge:

The cream of the crop for meriting and 100%tp weaponskills with GA. Unfortunately, while building TP to 300% for Steel Cyclone, you will miss out on the latent as well as hidden effects. Despite this, this axe is really an extremely effective weapon.

Byakko's Axe:
Byakko%27s_axe.jpg

Almost all the goodies of the Perdu, but no tp restriction. This axe is better suited for times when you'll be holding TP for the big Steel Cyclone.

Foolkiller:

The GA I can't wait to swing in my hands. Acc/Att bonus of perdu, and a latent that is STR+8 on weaponskills. Only weakness of this weapon is its comparably low damage when looking at Perdu / Byakko's.

What are your weapons of choice for different situations?

I was always under the assumption that with perdu, the latent is active >100tp and during weaponskills, so that would make this better than byakko for a 300tp SC.

It's <100tp and including WS. You lose the latent when tp reaches 100. Also, the Perdu will have a greater damage since it is active for the steel cyclone, however, if you're tping on the mob you're losing the latent and hidden effects for tp from 100-300.

oh right, "<" = less than

i read that byakko was better for SC, but it says for 'holding tp' for SC.

I always wondered which would be better for a non Ridill WAR when /NIN. Axe/Axe or GA? True 2 handers got a pretty significant boost with the recent updates but let's not forget dual wield was the undisputed king for meriting before the update. The difference between dual wielding and 2 handers back then was huge. A good NIN back then could blow away all but the very best 2 handers even. Has anyone done any testing comparing the 2? Or if anyone is willing maybe we could parse the 2. I have better than average sets for both Axe/Axe and GA so either will work if someone wants to give it a go.

Yea, the Steel Cyclone itself would still effectively be stronger with the Perdu. Kind of wondering why I forgot Martial Bhuj too now...

Interesting thoughts for sure...I've lowered my axe merits to 4 now so wouldn't be a viable candidate, but would be interested to see the results.

What about the Martial Bhuj? Remember that PT with bigdumbface where he was matching(or it was very close) your Ridill War Spamming Steel Cyclone with the Martial Bjuh?
Mistra do you still have that parse, what were your SC numbers like?

Yea, I just realized I forgot that. If memory serves, the parse should be in the EG discussion thread about war parses.

Sitting on my hard drive, totally forgotten, of course.

110 battles only because I forgot to fix my filters for the first few >_>
parse2-1.jpg

WAR/NIN + Jugger / Ridill
WAR/uh, NIN? + Fortitude Axe
DRG/SAM + Mezraq
Wyvern
SAM/NIN + Hagun

Mistra completely slacked off towards the end of the parse, hence his low numbers. He was at 25% or so. I was SAM/NIN, Jamal was tanking, so both of us had lower numbers than we would have otherwise.

Found it

i'd almost say GA is better than A/A but ive gotten rid of all my axe merits and axes. went 8/8 GA after the 2-hand buff and never looked back since. a comparison would be nice, although i have yet to see a good A/A person in a while..

i now only use perdu ga, before i'd carry fortitude and byakkos but perdu i think has outshined both of them.

I really only use Perdu GA now. I still carry my maneater/woodsville but rarely use them since I got Fort Torque. Used Byakko's axe before I got Perdu, but tossed it after getting Perdu. If I ever got my hands on a Ridill obviously my choice of weapons would change.

I think the thing about the Martial Bhuj parse was that Bigdumface was WAR/SAM if I remember correctly which meant more WSing and less TPing. In a situation where you would be /NIN TPing longer to SC, the MBhuj would start to fall behind.

To you all who are advocates for the Perdu, what are your thoughts on Foolkiller? I rarely use GA while meriting, but it looks pretty incredible.

it looks better, and it also might be an easier candidate for a six hit setup, assuming you have the gear (most war's don't)

I don't even know if it's been tested, though I want to do it, I don't have a six hit setup either lol

looks like a good option if you don't have a perdu, but if the 8 str can make up for the 6 base damage, i almost think perdu would still win out.

the damage differences from fortitude > byakko > perdu is pretty big and they are all different base damages.

Yea, the 'looks' is all I have to ride on now...just hoping it's not something similar to Organics where I first saw it and went O.O only to put more thought into it and realize the negatives slightly do outweigh the positives.

Foolkiller's saving grace is the ACC+7 as well. You give up 3 attack during tp for +2 acc (compared to perdu), which in most circumstances is a good thing. Even with 299 skill on mamools you won't be capping acc when eating meat, so everywhere you can squeeze a little more in without hurting the rest of your setup drastically is usually worth the effort.

I love my Martial Bhuj, simply because I have a terrible addiction to Steal Cyclone.

It's with me in everything but merits. Which, I just haven't actually tried. Not sure how I'd end up there. But I imagine it'd be a whole shit tons of fun twirling around slappin monsters with my steel.

Yea, I'm not a raging rush fan myself, if I'm equipping GA I'd rather be SC'ing :D Just personal preference though

What is your opinion on the Rampager jamal? And what about the Rune Chopper?

Rune Chopper is a 50% activation rate assuming sanction refresh...or you put another spell into the rdm rotation to keep constant refresh up, so haven't really ever been a fan of it.

Rampager with a crit hit setup could be nice...but the low damage would require a 120 tier DEX level to be really effective because of the low base damage and no other stats. I can't really manage that as an elvaan.
