Warhammer Online

Got into closed beta today. I'm still patching so I haven't even been able to log in yet but the NDA is still in place so I can't say much anyways.

Will provide my personal review here for those who are interested once the NDA is lifted and I'm free to discuss my experiences with the general public.

/mutters something about NA CE pre-orders being treated better than EU CE pre-orders.

The EU site should be back up by the end of the day right? Think we can download open beta? XD

Chances are slim right now but you never know =D

Nope Iain said on WHA that there likely wont be any visual change to the site (yay for "NEW CLASS REVEALED: WHITE LION") and other ancient things. I'd of lost all faith in GOA if it wasn't for the beta testers coming out and saying that GOA have been awfully helpful and working their arses off.

Don't feel bad. Apparently I can't log into any of the collector's beta servers still, so I haven't even been able to play.

I'm wondering if maybe the fact that I got my CE code via hookup (without buying the collector's edition) and only preordered the standard edition that now my account may be screwed up.

Hopefully that isn't the case and they just haven't put the CE beta servers online yet.

The servers aren't up yet. They should be up at somepoint in the next few days.

Good to know. I wish I could get in there and play already.

Btw- looking to upgrade my altec lansing basic stereo speakers (regular desktop speakers) to something like the logitech G51 surround for a better pvp experience in war. Does anyone know if the g51 speakers are quality and if they'd work on a soundmax soundcard that came with my asus motherboard but isn't build right into it?

Servers finally came up for CE invites. Level 3 shadow warrior so far. Did some RvR right off the bat and had a blast.

Will talk more about it once the NDA is lifted.

We all have to try and see if we can get on the same server when the game goes live <3 I can't wait to play! I want to be a Lion elf-person-man! Rawrr!

I'm on Barak Vash for closed beta if anyone's in.

Characters:

Anaeran - Shadow Warrior
Squiggy - Squig Herder

Servers just dropped for a 60min update (Mythic is really working diligently at fixing any and all issues, however minor).

I've clocked roughly an hour and a half playtime so far and the game is real fun. Performance is probably the biggest surprise for me so far. With something like 80% of the current population running around in the newbie areas, I think I've hitched maybe twice.

Graphics are not as kiddie as forum people seemed to think too.

Folks,

As of now, the Non Disclosure portions of our Beta Testing Agreement is now officially lifted. From this point on players may now freely talk about their experiences in the game as well as post screenshots, videos, etc. We will be sending an email out to all our current players with full details about the lift over the next 24 hours. Players with access to our forums can also see the letter there. Players may not talk about nor reprint posts from our forums and our Test Servers (currently Deathsword) are still fully covered by the confidentiality portions of our Beta Testing Agreement. So, other than that, free feel to talk about and share your experiences in WAR.

My thanks go out to everyone who has beta tested and continues to beta test WAR. It has been with your help and feedback that WAR is where it is today. We really appreciate your effort.

WAR is almost upon us!

VP, GM Mythic Entertainment

ITS TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beta testers, PLEASE SPILL INFO! =D

Haven't taken many screenshots, but here's on of me taking part in an RvR skirmish. Keep in mind this info I'm sharing is from experience in content levels 1-16. The game may or may not change drastically at the higher end.

With RvR as the game's primary dynamic, and the option to jump in and out of private, "scenario" pvp matches there really isn't any downtime when playing WAR at all. There is constantly something being attacked, or defended somewhere. Battlefield objectives range from taking and holding an enemy warcamp to full fledged assault on the enemy's battle keep complete with battering rams, catapults, giant bolt firing mechanisms etc. The scale of some of the RvR fights is epic.

At one point I was standing atop the castle walls firing arrows into the backfield of an oncoming assault in order to weaken the enemy for my frontline fighters below. You can really feel how significant strategy and tactics could come into play if you are facing intelligent, organized opponents.

Class balance is a slight issue but not horribly so. Tanks on both sides can deal out some pretty high dps while tanking entire skirmish parties at a time. It takes a lot to bring a fully geared out and defensive Chaos Chosen to his knees, for example.

Being a melee dps class is essentially worthless (early on anyways) as you can't stand toe to toe with or even joust any tank class, and most ranged classes can kill you on inc.

Healers are pretty well done from what I can gather in this game. There are your healers who can take a few hits and sustain themselves long enough for allies to come help, and there are healers who are extremely squishy but do well with mobile healing, making them ideal for certain situations.

Pure casters (Bright Wizard, Sorceror) are extremely high dps and will almost always dominate the dps numbers in scenarios. They are soft though and with interrupts and knockbacks they aren't really as overpowered as some people may claim they are.

All classes have a unique dynamic of their own, ranging from harvesting souls to fuel the cost of healing spells to building up a grudge against an opponent which can be unleashed for more damage output. It makes the classes feel different from one another as opposed to some games where classes are essentially mirror images of each other.

The graphics- a point of concern for many- really aren't bad at all. In fact, aside from maybe the water details it's really pretty well done. The fact that you can RvR without your video card exploading says a lot for the way graphics were handled in this game. Here's the only shot I have standing still that shows off some of the art in WAR.

My only other real big criticism would be some server side lag on occasion that leads to abilities 'hitching' before going off. This has already been improved over the past week or so and hopefully will be completely resolved by the time open beta hits. I haven't seen any of the PvE "raid" type stuff yet (aside from public quests...which i'll talk about later if nobody else does) but I've heard it's in there so we'll see.

This is just some of the stuff going on in beta now, but I'm starving so I'm going to make some dinner. I'll update this thread more in the future, and I'm sure other testers will share their experiences as well.
