Well, Brett has done it again.

That is why the argument about best QB will never be settled. There are plenty of pro's and con's for both sides. I would say though that PED's while not in the same form, did exist back then. But QBs aren't the only ones taking PED's. Linebackers, D-Linemen, DBs are all exponentially bigger, stronger and faster than even what Marino and Montana played against. In my opinion, the only arguments for QBs before the 70's is the fact that the game was different, it was a smashmouth-run oriented game, and the seasons were shorter. Today's athletes are far superior to athletes of 20 years ago. Very few skill players and even fewer position players from the past would make it in today's game. Notable exceptions being Jim Brown, Walter Peyton, and Jim Marshall.

Edit: And yes, my apology was sincere. No sense being a dick on the internet.
Edit2: Totally forgot my main statement. My argument for Brett Favre in his latest playoff games is that he felt the need to do too much. He did not have the supporting cast to win playoff games, so he put the team on his shoulders and failed. He was clutch in too many other situations to hold a couple of bad playoff games against him so harshly though.

I wouldnt cancel out his positives with the recent negatives. I just use it because i feel he should have been gone a long long time ago.

I think he stuck around just for his numbers to be inflated. When i first felt this way it was a shot in the dark because he was still an american hero..

His recent actions, as in the last 3 retirements, have proven he is all for himself.. Making me believe even more he just stuck around as a washed up QB and very average for the last 10 years.

Though his run a couple years ago was pretty cool until the Giants game in the playoffs.

He does seem to enjoy the spotlight just as much as any WR diva, but then I think that comes from all of his years in Wisconsin. The man is a god there, or at least he was 2 years ago.

I would remove Namath or Bradshaw in Favres place. Bradshaw was surrounded by tremendous team and wasnt all that sound as a QB. However i will admit, they were before my time and numbers can only tell you so much.

I think what made Favre great was the pair of balls he brought with him, most QBs overthink shit and always tried to avoid mistakes, while Favre said fuck it i think i can make more helpful plays then mistakes by taking chances. I dont think anyone has done it like him in that aspect.

I believe statistics alone should merit him being in the top 10. Just watching the way he plays the game should put him in there as well. I may not be his biggest fan but fuck, watching him play against Oakland (I think it was) after his dad passed away and he lit them up for a hell of a game, idk people just felt something.

PS. I really like these discussions

While he did have some mediocre teams, lets not forget he had some shit poor talent teams around him for a while, which led to the hiring of new coachs and GMs

Growing up and watching Favre play at USM was a treat for me. He was never your typical style QB. He's never been into film like a Manning or Montana. He has always been a risk taker, and if he wasn't, he never would have made it in the NFL.

Everything he's ever done in football was off athleticism alone. At USM he was a underdog and had to make huge plays to win (beat no.2 FSU), and trust me, it was all him lol.

At Greenbay he got lucky when Don Majkowski went down. He came into that game and brought his team back.

He's done it his whole career, by winning very unconventional. He makes a ton of mistakes, you're right about that, and those mistakes two of the last three years have hurt him more then ever, but earlier in his career, for the first 14 seasons (which is a very long time), those risks paid off usually. There is a reason he has the most wins, and thats just not from longevity, he has a considerable amount more then most QBs and would still lead in that category if you subtract the last 2-3 years off.
