Thing is, just because you don't have nothing to hide now, why wouldn't that be true in the future. It has happened countless times in history where a good/fair gorvement goes evil. Something like critizising the goverment can become illegal something you could be jailed over.Pompidou said:I have nothing to hide. If such a chip makes those who actually do have reason to fear uneasy, it's probably a good thing. Making criminals easier to catch is a good thing.
There was a book written, where the goverments would have cameras in your own home, now they didn't have the manpower to actively monitor them all, it was mean to by a physcological effect that they "could" be watching you. Why would this matter if you had nothing to hide? That said, the government doesn't want to track me. I'm boring. I'd have sympathy for any technician given the duty of overseeing my day to day activities from a control center two miles underground in the middle of a southwestern desert military base somewhere. The government doesn't want to track any of you either. Are we good people? Certainly. Are we important to the government? Probably not. FFXI 3rd party software, less than ethically acquired MP3's and a stash of internet porn don't make a threat to national security. Not yet anyway.
Along the same lines, one would hope that having a big surveilance system would "chill" everyone to the point where they wouldn't commit crimes. The same way the cameras at traffic lights aren't always manned but they're designed to make people not want to possibly get caught and therefore not run red lights.Daveman said:There was a book written, where the goverments would have cameras in your own home, now they didn't have the manpower to actively monitor them all, it was mean to by a physcological effect that they "could" be watching you.
