Where are my damn tanks? :/

I disagree with this. If the melee and the mages are half competent at what they do Cannon mentality at 50+ works very well. Sub NIN keep your shadows counted and know how to bounce hate... AND have a mage that knows what regen is, BAM you are golden.
Key word's there 'half competent.' Not everyone is skilled at shadow Maintaining.

And I did know what regen was, guess what when a Crawler does 700 ponts of damage to someone you're going to need a bit more curing power than three hp a sec.

Oh yes and they slap melees for 80-150 damage, once those three shadows are down its feast time for the mob if the other melees cannot get it off him, weapon skilling to get hate is never that reliable a method.

Sorry, too busy soloing. I have no plans on doing any real end-game work as a taru pld, so I'm just using it as a "bst. v2" and enjoying the hell out of pld/bst. I've taken three of four parties so far and have done ok. Other than that, I've solo'd the other 37 levels or so (currently nearly 41 lol). People have shot me /tells asking me to party, but in my current situation, I have an hour off and on to get on ffxi. The rest of the time, I'm taking care of real life stuff, so it looks like I'm doomed to play any job as /bst, /nin, or play with my blm/rdm until at least December. XD

Meant to say, "it looks like I'm doomed to solo any job....."

Hence the qualifiers when I first described the process. Voke is nice, certainly, but your melees should be able to hold hate just fine without it. It's not *that* crucial at those levels. And survivability falls under the category of bouncing hate and maintaining shadows. (And of course, debuffs help: Elegy and Slow make it waaaaaay easy to maintain shadows, Para is of course flaky but can still kick in at helpful moments, and Dia 2 means melees do more damage, which in turn means melees have more hate.) Obviously if they can't do that, things are gonna go badly. But the suggestion is applicable to parties *with* sufficiently competent melees.

I levelled BLU from mid 50's until 72 (at which point our static fell apart for scheduling reasons) in a party setup like that. Bounced hate between myself, WAR, RNG, and at first a pickup sixth (who admittedly generally didn't have hate), and later a NIN. With a BRD pulling and buffing, and a RDM healing (BRD didn't need to help heal too much either, because we were good at shadows). Basic cannon mentality. Voke was rarely used outside of getting the mob off the BRD on pulls.

And yes, Eruca were annoying. Sometimes they even one-shotted. But the key to hate management if they use their 700 damage breath attack *early*, is this: the melee who got hit tones down their hate (avoids WS'ing etc., possibly even turns around). The others do something to generate extra hate. Factor in that the melee who got hit just lost some hate from taking 700 damage, and the eruca is pretty much never still on them afterward. So they're not at any immediate risk.

Then some Cure 2 and Cure 3 from more than one backline mage will get them topped up without yanking hate. While it's a nice healer instinct to go "omg the person's almost dead, must get them back into white immediately" ... it helps to think about it a bit more and deal with it with a less hate-pulling strategy that factors in that the person in red HP is not gonna be the object of the mob's attention for a little bit. Cure 4 is only to be used if the person in red HP *still* has hate, and that almost never happens. (And if it does, it's probably from doing some really huge major damage output early in the fight, in which case Cure 4 may very well not pull hate anyway, or if it does, it'll probably be easy to get it back off the RDM.)

(Although I think we melees hated food/TP-stealing colibri much more than we hated the risk of death from eruca. I suspect the RDM had the opposite opinion.)

So yeah, the advice does assume some cooperation and it *definitely* assumes a degree of competence.

Unless your Melee was entirely gimp, they have methods in which to get hate back... No matter what. I'm sorry, at lvl 60 melee had better know how to keep up shadows, there is no excuse for that. And if you regen + Cure 3 + Cure 2 instead of Cure IV it generates much less hate. If you are in an incompetent party that dies that often, common sense states its time to find a replacement.

And this.

There are so many ways to get xp in this game now you don't even need to join a party to level a job. Back when I played I would farm 6 xp scrolls a week and dump them on my job of choice. You can also solo while you're seeking. You could always level a tank job as well. *shrugs*

It should also be noted that while farming for some of those scrolls I was also getting xp. ;)

After reading this I kinda feel selfish, oh hah, not really...

I love soloing my ninja. ;D I prolly could get more exp if I chose to LFG, but since I'm campaign level now I get to save a ton of gil. Basically solo toughs or vts long enough to cap my skills and then head back to campaign where I dont have to use many tools, and can start and stop when I feel like it. But, here in the future I might start LFG just to get some IP built up. But more on topic, it's most likely just that you picked a bad day, cus while I've been leveling my SCH I find that there is either a ton of support and no DD, or a ton of DD and no support. Right now there is a bunch of SCH in my range seeking along with WHM and BLM, nothing else.. yesterday I couldnt find a mage.

okay, I actually did a search on threads of this topic...came up with zilch, if I'm wrong pardon for the repeat in this small rant.

So....where are my damn tanks nowadays? Huh?

I'm pretty damn sick of /sea all xx-yy inv, finding a perfect party setup in basically any level range.

/sea all 1-75 pld inv "2 people found in all known areas"

...hmmm okay

/sea all 1-75 nin inv "6 people found in all known areas"
75 NIN/WAR
75 NIN/WAR
75 NIN/WAR
75 NIN/WAR
75 NIN/WAR
63 NIN/WAR

Apparently it has come to my attention that tanks are the new princess jobs before they hit 75. So um, when will SE decide to get the fucking heads out of their asses and decide to assess this ridiculous situation players are having? Oh wait you're laughing? Yeah I am too. Laughing and SE's so-called "creative intellect" that they tried so hard to implement within a new tank job for players. BUT HEY! LET'S ADD DANCER! IT CAN UM...DANCE AND LOOK CUTE LAWL! Make it tank? HAH! In the early levels IF YOU'RE LUCKY enough to find a player with half a brain anymore.

It would be one thing if I was seeking on say thief, or perhaps blue mage. But for fuck's sake i've been seeking on bards for 2 nights straight without a single invite. BARD! I mean, hell I thought i'd try a job that had invites flying out of the ass if you had your flag left on all night. No. I can't merit party in the early 60's, so for now I have to feverishly search for a tank....on bard....yeah....

It makes me want to ingest my own hair..

SE I fucking hate you. Why don't you try to hire some employees with actual brains within their skulls mmkay?

/end rant

Welcome to my life looking for a refresher throughout my entire 1-75 career as a PLD levelling 3 years ago. Forgive me if I have absolutely no sympathy.

Give them time they obviously have something planed but rome was not built in a day and neither was ffxi. patience is a virtue. All good things come to those who wait.

Use Barfira for Erucas. It'll tone down a 700 breath attack to a manageable Cure II/III.

Sup y'all, I'm back from the beach with a nice tan.

Not having tanks sucks major. That's all I have to add to this, since I don't and refuse to level a tank job, I'll keep the bitching to a minimum.

Just read this topic and I back up Myrrh's claim of outparsing Jamal's war on his smn. Masatarutaru informed me of Myrrhs fap cannon and it does unimaginable damage.

I don't call watching the Paladin drop to 900 Incinerate excitement...

Watching a Paladin pop invincible and then die to a 800 Tornado? Now THAT's comedy.

So...
I leveled bard and red mage when demand for them in exp parties was still relatively high.
Maybe I should level paladin next?

Nah, I'm loving ranger way too much.

Boy you just want a collection of jobs that have no trouble finding parties, huh?

SAVE SOME FOR THE REST OF US.

Oh wait, fuck. I'm leveling PLD..
