Where were you? (FFVII)

That's what happens when you are a freshman in high school with no life and a serious video game addiction without a computer.
Yeah, we mighta been separated at birth if you weren't way older than me. 8th through 12th grade, there were about 7 or 8 games I utterly mastered without any guides or help.
I also had 3 master Summon/Magic/Command materia, at least 3 of all the blue materia. I never managed to get more than 2 fully loaded enemy skill materias in one game.

One of the hardest Materia to get was "Added Cut". I hate the fuckin glacier.

I also managed to get 3 mystiles in one game. I've only been able to do that once, and I never really figured out how it happened. It was always my favorite armor piece.

I did all this without a guide too. Including beating Ruby and Emerald.

Underwater Materia, if anyone is interested can hold 16,777,215 AP before it stops gaining AP.

Like I said, no life.

Damn, another VII expert....Nick? Is that you?
I know this kid Nick, he's the only one I know personally that trumps my knowledge of VII. He used to be a beta-tester for Square, and tested VII when it came out. He got fired when he released a guide for VII before VII came out, stupid dumbass. For the longest time he was obsessed with trying to get Aeris back after she died, and if you ask him today he's still convinced it's possible...stupid dumbass. Anyways, this kid really is the mother brain of all FF knowledge. It's a shame he got married and had kids and stopped playing video games for the most part, save for a few times a month, stupid dumbass.
I don't know why I told you all that, other than he's really impressive when it comes to anything FF.

No one's played IX since it came out.

I remember my social life practically revolved around FF7 in 6th grade and prolly most of 7th grade. <.<; lol

My first date scene was with Tifa. In fact, I got her my first few times. Ugh. Nowadays I can't stand her, and always make sure I've got negative points with her. M favorite date scene will always be the Yuffie one~

As far as memorable scenes... there are far too many for me....
Yea same, I replayed FFVII and beat it (without using a gameshark to have all materia/lvl99/max hp/mp/stats <,<) through out grade 6-7. I also did the same for FFIX and got my friend addicted to them :)
Seriously? People still play IX? No one I know irl has played IX in years. I haven't played it since the week it came out. Although I do want to play it again, being as I don't remember hardly anything about the game. That was the first FF I played too..yeah, sue me, I came in on IX >< I get shit for that from my friends all the time. I need to buy VII-X. In fact come to think of it...I haven't played VIII IX or X since the first play through when they first came out - except X, I played that a second time I think a few months later. I miss those games too >< PS1 rpg's ftw.

Oh. Well...I still think Knights > Trains, but everyone's entitled to their opinion.
Ok well Exc first of all your an asshole<3 FFIX is tied for first for my most favourable final fantasy favourite (lol alliteration). I really thought the game was great considering it was the first actual "final fantasy" for the PS1. When I say this, I mean it was the first FF game in a while (not just for the PS) that brought back the whole crystal theme, a ton of older jobs that hadn't been used in a long time (IE Dragoon, Bluemage, Summoner.) I say this because allthough you could use blue magic in FFVII and summon you didn't have a specific job that mainly used it. Although I did like that you didn't need to have some super retarded character that was used for nothing more than summoning/healing. But the whole spirit of final fantasy is that there are those super retarded characters that are used for nothing more than one specific reason. Although FFX solved that problem by allowing you to sub out characters after they have served there purpose.

So well yea thats my er uhh rant. =)

Sorry for double post, but I know a kid exactly like that, his names Milan and he knows like EVERYTHING there is to know about Final Fantasy in general, he's beaten/mastered basically every FF game. I keep telling him hes to important for the government to keep alive <,<

Real men beat Emerald without Underwater.

20 seconds on the clock remaining here. Thought I was going to lose because of the body removal + victory sequence.

The long ass summon animations and the unfortunate timing of Air Tam Storm has kept me from doing that. I reckon that probably took you a few tries and I would imagine you know what I'm talking about. Still, that is quite an accomplishment.

Actually, no. It was my first victory against him. I simply forgot to equip Underwater as an oversight and decided to give it a shot.

I was really scared shitless when the timer kept going down after the fight. Screen faded to EXP tally with 7 or 8 seconds left.

I beat Emerald Weapon in roughly 1 sec in underwater with the clock. I used Caith Sith and got lucky with his limit break ability, and got the instant death dice.

Was a quick fight.

I've replayed FF7 like once every year or so since it was released. By far one of the best games ever made, even now.

My personal favorite scene was the Cosmo canyon part of the game where RedXIII (my fav character) finds out that his father was really a hero. The part where he howls at the moon in front of his father's stoned body sends chills down my spine every time I see it.

You just don't feel that kind of emotion in very many games today.

I personally beat Emerald (without underwater) using 4x cut, and that alone. No summons, nothing else attack based. Just 4x cut, and a couple counters on each character. Red XIII was pretty much my favorite character as well, Anaeran. One of my other favorite scenes in the game is when they are up in Grandpa's chamber looking at the planets and he explains how Mako works.

Also, I belive it's actually Aire Tam Storm, which was Squaresoft being not-so-clever. It's just Materia Storm, spelled backwards. It hits you for a certain amount of damage per materia equipped. I honestly found Emerald to be way, way tougher than Ruby. Ruby was a pushover.

*edit* Mind you, that success was the result of many, many failed attempts.

Yea RedXIII was my favourite character when I first played this as a kid. As time went on though I started to like Vincent and Cid more (I bet no one can name my party when Cid had to be leader >.>), but Red XIII is still way up thar :)

That is a really spectacular scene through out the entire game, I forgot about that one. Nice to see that someone had remembered it :P

Well, shit.

Now with everyone making claims of beating Emerald without Underwater, I suppose I should go back and try it again myself. I'll let you guys know how it goes in a couple of weeks.

Cloud + Barrett + Cid in a party > all other parties

I used Red XIII in place of Cid mostly though.

And fuck Yuffee she sucks. :D

I was at home playing the import I bought in January 1997. I bought the english version because Squaresoft released it on my birthday (September 7) in 1997 and I didn't understand what the heck was going on...

I loved the part where Cloud was climbing to sneak into Junon and he saw the Highwind for the 1st time. The sunset there was awesome and in the Cosmo Canyon parts too.

Yuffie doesn't suck for the simplereason it is easy as hell to get Conformer relativly early in the game. Just load her up with HP+ and you can get some nice numbers.

I thought it was based on the total AP of your equipped materia combined(per character basis,) not the actual number of material itself.

Regardless, yeah. Summons are horrible damage-time management, with the exception of Phoenix. Simply because you're going to get your revives in with it along side damaging Emerald, and thats a much better use of time than casting Life 2 twice.

Well I borrowed VIII from a friend the other day. Put it in and it froze up during the opening movie. I hate playing PS1's on a PS2 >< I think I can skip past it, cause I know the game worked a few weeks ago. I'll look up the opening on youtube or something. Anyways...this was just a 'yay for me cause I get to play VIII for the first time in probably 8 or 9 years' post. It'll be like playing it for the first time...

It does 1111 damage per piece of materia you are wearing. I knew a guy in high school that swore up and down wearing a Ziedrich was the only way to stay alive after ATS. I couldn't make him understand that it was because he could only use 8 pieces of materia and not because it's got crazy defense.

I have to admit I shed a tear for the death of Aries, I was caught up in the plot so much that the event totally took me by suprise (nobody had ruined it for me either knowning my love of epics) I think in the battle that followed her death my fingers on the controller ran the magic and attacks so fast that Seph clone never stood a chance. Vengance...

Maybe I was just mad because I'd spent all that time leveling her up too, heck I had her 4th limit break thingy even.

If I remember right, it's 1111 damage per Materia equipped on each individual character. After a few attempts I finally noticed that Aire Tam was Materia spelled backwards and started coming up with theories regarding the attacks, and finally came to realize it dealt damage based on Materia equipped at the time.

Man, now that I think about it, I played FFVII a lot back in my early youth. =o...
