Nin over Pld. Party'd with the same Ninja 44-49 and all I had to do each fight was Haste members and watch for Erase. Not saying that every Ninja has that capability, but with that kind of potential I'll pick Ninja over Paladin any day.

NIN tanks make me bored. Especially leveling one. I usually had to find reps within 2 hours of joining because tanking was just so bloody dull. Blink a few hits, recast utsusemi, blink some more hits, recast again, get bored and stop paying attention, miss my next recast and drop to red HP, recast, repeat.

PLD is just impressive. I really should level it but I'm too lazy to get another set of equipment, especially one that's reliant on my worst stat. But yeah, badass armour and the ability to take low damage will always be cooler than "lol dodged another one." Also note, Paladin is called Knight in the Japanese version. =P

As a SMN I honestly prefer PLD. >.>

It's as simple as that. You can pick and choose your prey almost anywhere except jungles and dunes. (which is why NIN hate mandies, and PLD hate pugs).

Other popular exp spots work with both for the most part.

(I like NIN for their damage potential too, which tends to me magnitudes above PLD, which makes NIN awesome for cannons :D)
to true BRD is best with a NIN and RDM best with a PLD but if you got a BRD+RDM either can do fine but NIN probally a bit better with haste+march1 and 2 expect on mandies but after jungles you do not fight them. Also ninja is not a good tank till 40 lol

NIN is only good to Kire's BRD because the only thing he uses /WHM for is sneak and invis.

As a BLM, I liked PLD pre 60, but most of the parties i get post 60, I'd prefer a Ninja. You just get more experience points with Ninjas the closer you get to 75.

Not that I dont still love the kind of hate that PLDs generate.

Purely situational in my opinion.

Paladins excell in areas where Ninjas don't.

Ninjas excell in areas where Paladins don't.

I wouldn't ask a nin to tank a mandy, and I wouldn't aska paladin to tank something that hits for 300+.

WTF!!!1111!!! Why isn't whm tank on that list? Hmmm. you racist against whms or something. Kids these days have no respect <,< :P

At anyrate i have to go with Blab on this. it just depends on the situation.

Before shadow nerf, I didnt care what tank it was. I would adapt to it anyway, as all players should.

But I voted PLD.
Reason? I've ended up kiting Kirin, because NIN's couldent keep their hate up.
PLD simply got more tools to maintain hate with over a longer time.

Sure, I bet thoose TP burns in ToAU areas scream for NIN tank, since mobs are dead after 20 secs anyway...

LMAO!! That killed me! XD

I think it looks like PLD gets the vote for the more enjoyed job (playing and playing with), where as NIN just gets the vote only because people want fast XP. In the long run, playing while having fun is more important to me... so... PLD FTW!!!! :paladin:

Hmm this is a toughie. As Thf I tend to prefer ninja since the whole losss of hate issue for a ninja is my job to fix. However i have had some great pld tanks lately in the swamps I definetly prefer pld there since they arent as affected by amnesia ect and I can try and makeup for the lack of voke the second amnesia wears off.

Not unlocked pld yet so I can't comment on how fun it is to play pld however I do enjoy ninja since tanking it is similar to how a thf solos.

Honestly it depends on the mob.

PLD for 2 reasons

1. I am one...
2. I'm leveling whm and no happy medium seems to exist...all the NINs i pt with either suck and drain my MP by chain 3 or are really good and i do nothing but cast haste whenever the *something's fixin to wear off* tingle occurs. PLDs (good or bad) give me something to do the whole PT and usually make my job much more fun to play

lol, I staticed alot with Landin on my ninja...90% of the fights all he did was haste, dia, regen, and nuke with banish XD

This topic is getting really old btw. Tank preference depends on situation. In exp, it depends what kind of party it is...if its war, war, war, brd, rdm...a paladin tank would be stupid as shit. If you have a smn main heal, you better get a ninja tank or be prepared for a gimped party. I like paladin, I think pld/nin is the best tank in the game, but for exp, its no contest...it will almost always be better with a ninja. With all the new boosts pld has recieved though, pld is not as far behind as they once were.

For HNMs and what not, I love tanking by comitee. Why choose just one tank, when you can have both. PLD/NIN and NIN/DRK x2 is my favorite combo of tanks for HNMs, and bounces hate around extremely well, while keeping solid hate away from the mages. Both jobs have their strengths, and together can make one hell of a tanking trio.

Also, alot of you have some great misconceptions about tanks and their versatility. Ninja can take less damage hit per hit than a paladin with -phy dmg setup, /war and some tav. taco's or w/e. NIN/DRK can hold some of the best hate of any job as well. A good /drk will never lose hate to a mage unless they are either A. dead or B just got a hate reset move. Souleater is one of the singles greatest enmity increasers in the game. Evasion tanking is so 2005, btw.

Seriously, can we drop the topic though >.>

I've pted with some gimp paladins and some good ninja's. Its hard to draw a line.

As a back up healer/haster/refresher/enfeebler/back up nuker/mber/<everthing else>

I like the DoT of Ninja's versus paladins they can enfeeble the mobs themselves so I don't have to stick as many enfeebles or worry about some landing. High/top skills in Parrying evasion and agi show.

Paladin's don't get to ws as much as ninja because they have to regain mp and don't count in the SC. Their dd isn't really a plus since they have to worry about keeping damage at a low with good def gear at all times. Their healing ability is a plus.

Ninja's save the mages more mp than Paladins, but Idc which i have in my pt.

If i had to choose it would be Ninja >.>"

lol at this thread (i voted nin, however)

plds are a waste of a party slot

a good nin > a good pld

a pld adds nothing to a standard exp party, besides soaking up damage, nins are by far a more preferred exp/merit tank, however plds are much more useful at endgame than nins are, most of the time due to the gear they have access to (hello thar aegis, koenig, etc~), which allows them to take far less damage than they could during their exp stage, and they in turn become hate machines which is useful for certain situations

wars can do just as well as both jobs at 75, in merit parties and end-game stuff, so.. the answer to this thread is

its situational depending what part of the game you're playing, there is no cookie cutter "This" or "That" answer ;p

I change my vote to the new outside-the-box tank: BRD/NIN

NIN does 2 things in 1, DD and tank... ever seen an avg. WS on PLD? its like 50-60 crap fest and whatnot.

I have fun doing solo stuff and quest with friends so when I need XP I get or go with a NIN cause I want to spend as little time possible Partying while getting as much XP as possible.

Doesn't matter what it is, I love a PLD tank. Sure you get some fast EXP with a "good NIN tank" but how often do you actually see those? Plus you have to build your party around a NIN tank. If you know a good DRK, you can't invite them to a NIN tanked party because then you have to tell them to hold back. Or accept the fact that no NIN, no matter how great they are, is going to hold hate off of a good DRK.

Bias or not, he used valid points.

Ninjas are good tanks, but that usually means you have to have the rest of the party hold back because ninja's suck at holding hate comparably to Paladins. (Unless you have a GOOD Ninja. But cmon, thats not very often.)

DRK PLD duo is amazing. Once you both hit 30, you can duo the gobs just outside Kazham easy. Albeit that the exp will be a bit slower since your duo'ing and using up your MP. But its still alot of fun.

If the PLD knows what hes doing (Sentinel, Shield Bash, Voke, Cure II or III) he will keep hate over the DRK to whole time.

Same can be said about parties. And I have to disagree with what Reality says. In my personal opinion:

A good PLD > A good NIN.

While EXP flow may be better with a NIN, you need to stay alive, and keep hate controlled. A good PLD can do this way way better than a NIN ever could.
