I personally prefer PLD over NIN in every situation.

Ninja's are nothing without their shadows.

Ninja's are easier to heal depending on your Party setup.

But in every situation, I would usually prefer Paladin.

The comment about Ninjas being nothing without shadows.... :bb:

i mean, ok, thats great, but what nin tank is going to be allowed into a party without utsusemi? and if nin is easier to heal, does that mean they are losing less hp and you prefer pld becuase of the whm boredom factor?

i r comfuzzled

Its not about not having Utsusemi.

Its about the fact that as soon as shadows go down, the NIN go down faster than your mom on prom night.

NIN get 3 shadows with Ichi, 4 with Ni and (#?) with San. But once those are gone, if your silenced, stunned, asleep etc. your screwed and the WHM has to waste MP just keeping you awake/alive long enough to cast your next Utsusemi.

And I said they could be easier to heal DEPENDING ON YOUR PARTY SETUP.

If you using a SMN as a main healer, which do you want? Ummm, yea. NIN.

If you have a full blown WHM with RDM party, which do you want? Id say PLD.

Same can be said about parties. And I have to disagree with what Reality says. In my personal opinion:

A good PLD > A good NIN.

While EXP flow may be better with a NIN, you need to stay alive, and keep hate controlled. A good PLD can do this way way better than a NIN ever could.

rofl, say what now? That was a highly contradictory statement. And very, very wrong. Apparently you missed the discussion where if the ninja is out DDing everyon else, as well as provoking with enmity, then hes going to be #1 on that hate list. Also, a good ninja in a normal exp party has gone a fwe times where they didn't take damage (besides unavoidable AOE) for a full 10+ fights. And as for being nothing without shadows...a good ninja shouldn't take more than one hit before getting shadows up again. And you act as if nin has like 300 HP and teh defense of a taru blm...

And why are you all using...of all jobs...DRK as the one to cause hate problems for a ninja? Are you fucking serious?

ok you prefer pld and i prefer nin, we aren't going to change our minds it seems ^^

Not trying to change anyones mind. Just pointing out that your argument is irrelevant.

When has a PLD out DD anything? (excluding mage and support)

We are talking physical right?=P

I preferr PLD. Why? Nomatter how good a PLD is, a healer is needed. In many parties, if the NIN's really good he'll rarely [if at all] need heals, and where'd that leave me on WHM? Sitting around covering -na and Haste, which a RDM can do AND enfeeb. It basically leaves me being a waste of a slot on WHM (considerably more useful as SMN, but still), and I'd rather not leech XP or be a waste of a slot.

And regarding PLD DD...they can be pretty good if they were to load on DD stuff, but that's not what their job normally is / what they normally do.

I've out DDed every job there is on my ninja...including some of those suposedly uber drk/nins...

And not just by a little bit. Last drk/nin I exped with, I won out by 15%.

And yea...when has a PLD ever out DDed somone?
Honestly though, both tanks can be good, both can be bad. Different situations call for different tanks, different sub jobs. They are different, and can also be similar. This whole discussion is kind of a moot point.

never said pld dd pld has hate tools for hate

You never said NIN was using DD for dmg either, all you said was you haven't seen a NIN out DD those jobs, NIn wasn't ment to tank but its can and do a pretty damn good job at it too. most nin don't PT without sata which is all the hate you need, unless you have a BLM whos spammin.

For me it comes don't to doing more work for less XP or doing less work for more XP.

Sry, I like my XP NIN>PLD

Fuck needing SATA to keep hate. Half the time it hurt my hate more than helped. Only thf I exped with on my ninja was Necrosis, and thats because he was damn good and fast at sata. Other than that, screw thfs :P

to each there own all ill say is ive pt with pld and ninjas both while on my drk and a i die a lot less with a pld tank than a ninja one

TBH, I think we should focus less on the job and more on the player.

Deltoid is a fucking uber tank, and uber player. Hes the best pld I've ever seen. Fuck, he even tanked Jormungand as RDM/NIN, and bounced around hate very well with two nin/drks and did a damn good job. The three of us did the best run and HP % on Jorm to date. All three of us held hate and kept it for roughly around 50% of Jorms HP and it was the smoothest I've seen in many fights with the purple dinosaur.

But does that mean that rdm is now the uber tank on wyrms? That every rdm should now come to Jorm as /nin and tank? Fuck no. Skill, people. Skill is the key to alot of things.

Not to derail this but if you think about it, Utsusemi shouldn't even be a 100% blink...I mean if there's you and say, 3 shadow images, shouldn't there be a 25% chance the attack still hits you? ^^;

In EXP Parties, Ninja tanks are much more effiecient, but require much more care than Paladins. Paladins really only need to be cured and get MP regen, they can still hold their own without being hasted and having status effects removed. Ninja really was never meant to tank, so the conditions they tank in must be near-perfect or there will be lots of blood and tears, but with the right conditions you can have yourself a very good party. I'm not even going to mention damage dealing because it's pretty obvious who the victor is. Unfortunately, in most endgame parties, Paladin is useless. The mobs only last a few seconds, which is enough for a Ninja to handle, and they can rack up an insane amount of damage in the process.

As far as HNMs go, it's up in the air really. Paladins can take a fuckton of hits, get curebombed, and still hold hate like a champ. They can tank virtually any HNM with a dedicated healer and refresher. The thing is that they will take every single hit thrown at them, so if one of those collosal moves is used at the wrong time, you're effed in the ayy. With Ninja, same as EXP Parties. If your mages are on the ball, and the person playing Ninja knows what he/she is doing, there isn't much to worry about.

Kiting HNM, both can do it very well, but Paladins are more reliable because of all the hate grabbing abilities. I knew a Ninja tank that could kite Kirin full time only losing hate to rangers and chi-blast monks, and would only die to the 2hour, or sometimes would never die.

Dynamis. Paladin main tank only. Ninja can kite stones, or DD, there's only one star in this show, though.

Goblin Smithy uses Goblin Rush.

Player takes 3,543 points of damage.
Player is defeated by the Goblin Smith

NIN: Shit. Wish I was a PLD.
Goblin: Hhehehehe *stabs WHM*
