so what exactly does this imply ><;

ahem the story... lvl 67 got my test ready to roll :D got some nice eva gear and def gear, eithers the whole shabang. anyways 20 sec later (Death)

I've read and talked to many different people about this. Do I need to stay alive for a certain amount of time? Do I need to take a certain amount of damage? Maat's stats? I mean... if he's a direct stat copy of me... according to maat I have a million life and can hand to hand for about 120 a pop (p'.')p

I guess my big question is...

is the maat fight time based or damage based? ^_^; White mages please have any info for a fellow bearer of the white robe?

I am now 68. I wanted Shell IV to help against banish attacks, need another test but I want to know what I am up against before going back into the lion's den.

Its a damage based fight. Normally you have to heal yourself for between 4000-5800 dmg. Its really a test of {Conserve MP}. When I did mine @ 70, I didnt use any evasion gear, just XP stuff, AF and a light staff. I healed for 5600 before be gave up. I didnt use defense food either. Yagudo drinks, regen, DS and 2hr are your friends.

It's based on the amount that you cure. What I did was borrow an earth-staff from a friend, and wear that and the level 70 healer's earing and had an equipment swap every time i casted a cure. For the most part, I wore AF and +mp gear. I had bat earings and drank a blind potion for the extra 30 evasion. I used 2 yag drinks, a hi ether, and spammed about 2 stacks of mulsums for mp. I also started the fight with paralyze and got it to stick, which helped a bit.

The best thing that I can say is to not be afraid to use your 2hr if you need to. I lost my first attempt because I kept wanting to save my 2hr and kept trying to cure myself. The second time I fought maat, I used it when I got low and won with Benediction.

thanks for the great advice guys ^_^

lets hope round two goes a bit smoother :)

Already stated, but figured I'd add in my two gil ;p

Two very simple pieces of equipment that will make your run a million times easier. Earth Staff and your AF boots. Yes, it is based on how much you take...but you also have to remember if you take too much damage, you'll get interupted like crazy. Hence the AF boots come into play. Decreased damage + Spell Interupt down = smooth ride ^^

Also Baj makes a good point. Do *not* be afraid to use Benediction. Not only will you heal to full, you'll save yourself a lot of MP (and money from drinks/ethers). Also get a Vile Elixir +1 if you can, helps a bunch and really isn't that expensive compared to other things >_>.

This might be something you may want too consider. I casted slow on Maat, and then ran along the circle edge with my earth staff and level 70 Healer's Earring equipped. Just played keep away and then Maat gave up. I took meds with me too and cured myself when needed but I just kept moving. A fellow linkshell mate did this and told the rest of us whms too try it also. We all did it and never lost.

O_O that works?! holy crap I own at running away... >_>

Yeah it works. Me and the other whm in our shell did it the same day with this stragedy and we both won. Also makeing macros where you cure yourself may help with time and ease the stress.

Good luck with Maat. It was fun and seeing the level limit raised too 75 was a great feeling.

What Baja said but I did Divine Seal, Benediction. It's been awhile now, but I read somewhere that if you do Divine Seal/Benediction, it goes better on you. Also I just wore the 2 bat earring's vs. swapping in the healing earring.

Btw, I totally sucked at Maat myself. For the most part it was because I kept getting so nervous. Don't know why I did, but I did. Just try to stay calm. One more thing, take your linkshell off when you fight him if you haven't been. It really does help you concentrate a tad more.

It's long gone, but my first Maat fight I tanked around 7900 damage..

But I got my revenge last month and killed him, no food/viles/2h, RAWR ><"

Anyways...only tip I can give that hasn't been given...get to @500XP or less (sorta tough to get so close to that amount, but...), once all your MP is exhausted, pop an XP scroll; it'll level you up, restoring you to full HP/MP. This can be done with more than @500, but then you risk not getting enough to level and then you'd be out of luck. Also, don't try this if you're paralyzed =P

Yeah, I kited him today when I beat him; worked wonders. He only got off a few Banishga IIIs, a few Holys, one Flash, several Dia IIs, and 2 Paralyzes. He still hits you physically quite often, but he also very rarely uses WSs. He only used one Howling Fist on me as I was stopping to cure myself once (ended up having to use Benediction after that). Other than that, my best advice would be to bring a lot of evasion+ gear, especially if your evasion is capped (my uncapped evasion on my THF is already higher than it'll be capped at 75 on WHM, so this wasn't a problem for me XD). Maat was missing me a bunch, and it really helped. I had Empress Hairpin (+10), Spirit Torque (+5), Bat Earrings (+30 while blinded; I kept myself blinded the whole fight), Crow Jupon (+8 ), Crow Bracers (+5), Dodge Cape (+5), and Crow Hose (+5). All in all, something like 250 evasion (and that's only cuz I was level 66 XD). The Earth Staff I borrowed from a friend and the Tavnazian Taco I ate also helped quite a bit.

EDIT: For the record, I only tanked 3,512 damage (did it at level 66 though, remember) not counting damage over time from Dia. I cured 3,393 damage total. My clear time was 9 minutes, 3 seconds, though about 2 minutes or so of that was buffing myself and resting before the fight.

Yes, kiting is the key to whm victory XD
Firebrand gave me the advise to run away from maat and when he stops to cast something, just stop and cure yourself so you won't get interrupted because he is also casting, and if he hits you too hard for waiting till he casts anything use hi-pots or when it is critical benediction

Chiimi's right. When Maat's chasing you he can't hit you that much. And when he's casting a spell, he's stopped, and casting (not hitting), and you can't be spell interrupted. I just used Cure IIIs and IVs, didn't bother with Cure IIs even. When he'd cast Silence, I'd stop and hit my echo drop macro. When he'd cast paralyze, I'd stop and cast my paralyna macro. When he'd cast a Banish based spell, I'd cast a cure III or IV, or use a Hi-Potion or (once) a Vile Elixir. Had to re-apply Blinding Potion once during melee, same with Yag drink. Worked like a charm.

Good hunting to ya! You'll do fine!

Best regards,
Firebrand
