White mage melee skillups..

They definitely need a combo of the two - I'd love to see some way to upgrade rare/exc stuff (abjurations perhaps?) that add fancy effects, like upgrading Reverend Mail to include Refresh. Oh, and make it lv1... that'd be greaaat.

I didn't read the whole thread so forgive me if it has been stated already.

When I started leveling my club (around level 98 skill) I just went to the Crawler's Nest Entrance and fought the bees inside near the zone. I found that pollen (or whatever they use to heal themselves) made each kill last longer and made skilling up easier.

To pull the mobs to a safe spot I just subbed SMN and carby pulled.

I think this was good till about level 120-125 skill (maybe more).

At the time, I did't use any gear except my normal party gear. I later bought a Life Belt and used Tuna or Squid Sushi.

Use low delay weapons. Hitting more often nets faster skill ups. Remember, you can still get skill ups even if you hit for 0. As you get higher level, bones are a better option to solo but be warned, make sure you have a safe way to warp/escape if anything bad happens. Skeles are weak to blunt weapons and are one of the very few mobs that a WHM can safely solo as EP without needing excessive safety measures.

You're a WHM. You're pretty much going to have to do skill-up parties at some point. Not many jobs can cap all their weapons solo - maybe only RDM and BST.

Capped both my club and staff as WHM/BST.

Crabs are your best friend, as already said. Can do Kuftal til 170s or so, Greatclaw after that. Neither have spectacular eva but very high defense, which leaves them as some of the best skillup mobs in the game.

And in regards to people using DS Maul (and addition to what Lavi said)...I'd not agree with that. If anything, you can sub WAR for double attack/berserk and use a wand (100 less delay, so many more hits). As long as you don't do 0s, a wand is better in every way for skillups than a DS Maul.

Also, solo skillups, most of the time, just won't be a happening then, nor I recommend ever doing it. It tends to cause maximum downtime and least time spent actually skilling the weapon, since you'd be casting a LOT. Not to mention if it's high enough to give you skillup, there's the very good chance it can kick your butt if something goes wrong, which in he end isn't necessary at all.

Rdm can solo up to EM... WHM can't solo worth anything without proper gear/jobs...

whm/nin
Stoneskin, Blink, Regan, Utsusemi, Paralyze, Slow, Silence (if needed), Cure whm can solo crap that IT if they know how to slow down the fight to their speed (a lot easier at 74 when you can basically shadow the whole time with utsu)...

on the club's i'ld mos def go /nin and just smack stuff

on staff that is rediculously long, I'ld just buy a Mahagony or Elm(65) Pole at you your level for real cheap and just beat on stuff in skill up partys. /brd would be good for an accuracy song and for ballad if you need it.

Skilled Hillzpac's club from like 80'ish to Hexa Strike. He went whm/nin and used my life belt, sniper rings, and sushi. I went drg/whm and used his astrals, pies, and ocean rope. We did the standard Crabs in Kuftal well into the late 100's, possibly even early 200's then switched to Gustav Crabs. He never had to heal me, just haste himself and use Starlight, or whatever that ws is that gives mp, to keep me going and we did it no problem.

There's a huge, huge difference between whm/nin and rdm/nin. Mainly lack of refresh, convert, and the nearly 100 enfeebling magic cap. WHM will be incredibly lucky to land ANY enfeebs on an IT (especially as /nin), and also don't get Gravity to boot. Our Stoneskin is considerably worse, AND we don't get Phalanx. Nor do we get the pleasure of being able to use virtually ANY melee gear, so we don't get much +acc/eva/whatever to boot.

For skillup, /nin is OK. But subbing it certainly won't leave you soloing ITs.

Sorry for the off-topicness, just hadto correct that.

I ssolo'd an IT giant in sky.. but that was al DoT.. not the points... anyway I did the skill up pt, but myclub was always capped in no time ; ;. Let m know when you're gonna skill shaid and I'll tank for you, I love whm/nin with Rev mail :D

Hi /wave ms thinks whm sucks at solo?
I remember at 60whm i was dead determined to solo the ep scorps in crawlers nest with my uncapped club and ill be got damned if i did o.O
Seriously, your easiest fix is to just tele-yhoat. the crawlers are all perfect for that range there, or you can tele-vayzle. at 63 you should have no problem handling those mobs, if you do well you shouldn't ever melee in first place.
as far as subs go, since ninja is only 15 i say sub war for both weapons. the double attack will help you a lot more then dual weilding clubs and double attacking with staff increases the speed oh so fast.

Not anymore. They changed this about 5-6 months ago I think.

Who said WHM sucks at soloing? All I said is /NIN won't leave you effectively soloing ITs of any kind, and trying to solo skillup wouldn't be nearly as effective as it would in a party because you'd be constantly curing and/or reapplying buffs/debuffs.

I honestly loved soloing my skill ups!!! I did however get my last .3 club skill in a party, actually a full alliance. It was in a picture I posted on here.. gogo Suzaku! I didn't fraps it.. but I have me swinging my Kraken away D:

labryinth of onozo is good my char was there before my account was cancelled the gobs there are up to 48 and should take your skill to at least 148

Talk to Debo, Aimia (she's JP), and Blazeoffury and they'll show you how to do it... i've watched... its not as smiple as rdm/nin, but possible

Soloing and duoing skillups is largely the only option a mage has. When skillup parties take you, the support job, into their party, it's not so that you can skillup your weapons. It's because they want their hastes and cures. Anyhow, I skilled up my staff in npc-trios. After first soloing with my npc in altepa which took me to 100 easily, I could no longer reliably solo my npc as a blm. I got my thief/nin friend and we duoed in Xarcabard as many here recommended. I got my staff to around 140-150 here, can't remember specifically. After Xarcabard, duoing became less than reliable npc exp, so we grabbed the paladin from our static pt and went to the top floor of Oztroja - behind the door, and we pulled conductors, prelates and the like. I got tons of skillups here. Now I level my npc in SSG or Boyahda robber crabs if the place isn't busy. My current staff skill is 225 or so. I hit 215 and got Spirit Taker on a Robber Crab in Boyahda. Anyhow, my point is that levelling your npc is a good way to progressively skillup. It worked for me. Your NPC won't throw a fit for trying to skillup instead of hasting it or cure-botting.

I never said whm's suck at soloing.. my exact quote was "without proper gear/jobs" I will not be spending any gil worth mentioning to melee.. It's simply because I am bored and as rdm I used /c to see if I needed sneak or not. Thus far in my rdm life no mob that is EP-- has -ever- aggro'd me, and sword is always near cap, so I like using that.. plus I like whm more than rdm and wish to level my npc/farm as whm, not rdm.. Hexa Strike will make that more fun, plus... It's just good to keep everything capped all the time. :p

I was able to take on up to even match mobs as whm/bst. That was a fun job combo to play. =)

I got my club past 200 like that and I got hexa while borrowing a kraken.
