God knows I've been playing this game since ps2 release only taking small breaks at a time while still logged in. I find it sorta hard to continue finding joy in playing, but still compelled to continue logging in and try to get something accomplished. It's not like i don't have anything better to do. I still go out with my friends and still go to college to earn a medical degree. I just can't help but to just come on at the very least.

I just want to know why vet's like me still play. Why do you continue to log in and those who had quit, why come back. I guess, I'm just trying to find some reason behind my thinking. Am i crazy for still playing this game for so long?

Nah, you're not crazy. There's always something to do and it passes the time. If you need a goal, I hear Maat has a few caps he hasn't given away.

"I'm not an addict it's cool, I feel alive. If you dont have it you're on the other side."

hehe. Honestly, this game has some VERY addictive properties under its ugly surface. One (being inherent to all MMO's) is the social factor. MMO's allow you to socialize on a very broad scale, you form friendships with those you play along side, and then, naturaly, have trouble leaving because in the end, no one likes to lose friends needlessly. Second, everyone likes to feel accomplished. In FFXI, they've made anything worthwhile take an INSANE amount of time, which in the end only hightens ones feeling of accomplishment, and because they've built it this way, on some level, quiting feels like 'wasting' that accomplishment, making it harder to do.
Damn those SE bastards, lol.

EDIT: I started again because my idiot friend started a new character and didnt wanna be lonely....*sigh* (yes i'm talking about you Page.....)

Because I still enjoy the game. And because there's still thing I haven't accomplished that I want to accomplish.

And because I get to blow shit up. In RL i sit behind a desk 8 hours a day typing boring code that creates reports or grabs data, etc. No matter how boring of a day I'm having on ffxi, it's generally less boring than my day was at work.

And whenever I go back to a single player game I feel like "damn, since when were games this easy?" I've been going back to warcraft3 to pass time on those days when the JPonry pisses me off too much and man.... i swear to god I don't remember that game being that wtfeasy. I felt the same way about ffx when I tried it again. It makes you appreciate that ffxi accomplishments aren't nearly as easy.

My g/f plays, and I failed at getting her into WoW and other games I've played. So I gave in and came back. Since it's really not so bad as it used to be.

Something to do and money efficient.

I'm not quitting w/o Fenrir and a Mist Silk Cape off Spiny Spiri. 0/2 on Fenrir, 0/16 on Mist Silk Cape. Spiny was my first NM, and he's been a douche to me for years.

And who knows, maybe I'll hit 75 someday. (Hmm, don't want to raise the bar too high.) Maybe I'll hit 65 someday. (Nice.)

I almost quit...for about 3 times.

partly because it took me so long to hit 75 (with my first job being ranger, my nice gil sink hole).
After I buckled down and had the week from hell in Caederva mire, I finally dinged and started some dynamis endgame stuff...

yes...endgame...probably the only thing keeping me in ffxi..

I still play cause it's a good time killer and soloing shit as whm rocks! I won't quit till i solo Kirin as whm/nin!

Good question,I don't know why

It used to be so fun,now it's like work sometimes.

Whats funny to me is in 3 yrs of playing all the ppl I helped and been in ls's
with that ppl can pretend they dont even remember you.

This game is a drug.

As an older player 44 btw 5 kids-college to elem.. work schedule plus crap that needs to be done around the house, Gods ls and dynamis are hard to commit to,so i lvld Bst to 75 and craft and farm.

With great fear do i even reply to this thread with all the crapping and flamebaiting.

like all the other ppl that have posted in the good times thread about quitting,my account will be cancelled at the end of the month hopefully for good

I have no idea why I still play. Probably because WoW bored me after a couple of months and I still have some friends that play this game daily. That and I can bug Yanzi and/or Hyre and some nukka named Demir. I think he's a messican tho.

The game is addictive. I still play because of all my friends on the game. If they all quit tomorrow i could walk away and never come back. I still haven't got all the stuff i wanted done but like i said if they left tomorrow i could also. The game was fun when i was just starting out but once I got on job to 75 then another the game is a job now with Dynamis and co ldr to ls seems like i never have time for just stuff i want to get done.

Friends. Lack of anything better to do. Yeah, money efficient. Also, if I delete my characters again, they'll be gone for good because they've already been restored once... makes me kinda afraid to really "quit" (though yes, I know you can cancel IDs without deleting, but then you just come back the next month).

That and I still occasionally meet new cool people. Not nearly as often as I used to, but it does happen sometimes.

And I'd still like to sign a bunch of clothcraft stuff (don't care for 100 particularly, but 90s is cool) and get some more jobs to 75. '-';

I can't afford to quit! I've lost so many RL friends because of this game that I'm forced to see this till the end.

My RL friend's list is down to 5/40. When SE finally shut down the servers of this game, getting my friends back will be an RPG's epic quest of it's own. D=
