Why do you still play?

yes...endgame...probably the only thing keeping me in ffxi..

You mean it's not the fact that I'm incredibly sexy beyond belief?

I play because... I find it fun.I like helping others get/kill strange new things and perhaps quite a few old things.
I also have the attention span of a housecat so I find the fact that I have to pay attention in this game.. entertaining? Uh.. I just happen to like playing th game. ok?

I can't afford to quit! I've lost so many RL friends because of this game that I'm forced to see this till the end.

My RL friend's list is down to 5/40. When SE finally shut down the servers of this game, getting my friends back will be an RPG's epic quest of it's own. D=

This has to be the best post ever. GL to you on your quest and try to get rich, that's a like a Lu Shang's for moat carp in terms of getting friends.

I joined a shell about three days after getting the game the day it came out and have been in it in the various forms its taken over the years since. Even though I've never met any of them irl I wouldn't hesitate to hang out with any of them should they ever pass by Seattle.

It's that feeling I get when I am in an awesome group. It is the culmination of the failures, mediocrity, teases, and downtime put into a singular party of excellence. Basically the lows in this game are lower than most others and therefore the highs are that much higher.

I play because its an enjoyable game to come home to, and be able to play while relaxing. I enjoy being able to level various jobs that have different duties in a party, and I really enjoy being able to do events and missions that often require more than one person to defeat.

Most importantly though, I continue to play this game because i've met a lot of good friends who i've come to respect and care about, and being able to login daily to find out how they are and do something in the game with them keeps me pretty happy. I enjoy being able to organize events too for my LS and being able to see them accomplish their goals, and then see them do the same for others. I really enjoy being able to login especially late at night or on the weekends and having a random conversation and seeing everyone joke back and forth, making everyone laugh until it hurts.

I have a ton of good memories with the friends I have in this game, and I plan on making more of them :)

Mostly to interact with my friends I've made through playing it, partially to make Rappa just that much better before I finally move on to another game.

Because i got in TBHls which is full of hilarious people.

And theres nothing better to do at my house.

because its a nice getaway from reality...and we all know how shitty reality is

Most of my best friends are gone

but I'm making new ones that are more than just people I "work" with ingame to get shit done

Same as alot of other peoples, Friends. Thats the only reason why i still have it installed.

Why do I play? Mainly because it's something my husband and I can do together without having to drop $30 on a babysitter (and that's just to get out of the house, add in whatever movies or dinner or whatever would cost ontop of that). As for why we play FFXI specifically and not any other games (online or offline) and it's mainly because of the reasons others have stated: friends and wanting to reach those accomplishments. If our linkshell up and vanished we'd move on to a different game, simply because there's too much stuff in this game that you need others to get through; even if it's just other people to keep you from going insane while you kill 27645 too weak mobs for a drop.

Goals are fine and dandy, but you can have goals in other activities as well...

I stick around for friends and fun. Mainly fun.
When the game is no more fun, it's time to give a fond farewell to friends and move on.

i asked myself that question not long ago. i guess i just like playing. i cant think of any reason other then that. yeah my friends are playing still , but if i just wanted to talk with them i could visit our LS board and what not. my GF only plays when she's motivated to. and ever since we moved she's been on all of 60 seconds. and thats in the past 3 weeks.

there is stll much i havent done but im still not in a rush. i keep biding my time. thats how it is for me.

I still play for a lot of reasons, foremost among them being the friends I've made here.

Coming in at close seconds are the more goal-oriented things like finishing missions, leveling jobs, gearing up, etc.

And thirdly . . . Bst marathon soloing NMs that could kill me in seconds . . . just to see if I can :P

I just find it amazing how there are people who continue to play even if they started from PC release. I have two people who never played before, talking how they want to play. I would like to help them, in hopes they can fight and have fun with me in the future.

I still play because it's something me and online friends can do together. I enjoy my time on the game most of the time, and through QCDN I've made so many friends I mean... when you want to sit down and play a video game and just relax after a long day, it's great.

I play because I enjoy it. When it's no longer enjoyable, I'll stop. Friends are moot. You can keep in contact with people outside of the game through IRC, Instant Messaging, or Real Life.

Throwing the word "Addiction" around is pretty dumb. It's not an addiction, people just don't have any willpower. An addiction has withdrawl symptoms. If you honestly suffer any while away from the game, you're pretty sad imo.

Sure, I'm usually logged in around the clock. But I just stay logged in when I'm doing something else away from my PC, just idling. If I want to play another PC game(which is pretty frequently,) I just /shutdown. I guess I consider the game as a pretty screensaver in that regard.

Same here, I would miss my friends....fun/cheap thing to do together when Josh and I are short on cash...I don't take it too seriously, so I am only ever on once or twice a week, but make plans for when I WILL be on, so that I am not just standing infront of mog waiting on things to do - and tend to take breaks whenever I am in shows, work gets hectic, etc.

Also, I stopped EXP'ing so much - for me, having fun w/ Assaults/Quests has really kept me entertained, and is far less frustrating/intense than the constant race to 75.

I think I still play becasue I am casual enough about it that I can put it down when I need to, and there are always friends to welcome me back when I do decide to logon.

<3 my LS ^^

Did I MPK you in Moval by accident, btw? I just remember running by you as I died.

I have little reason to still play.

My dynamis LS is the only reason to logon, with Element disbanding and no prospective shell that I really want to join, there is really little incentive to come online.

I could easily quit tomorrow.
