Windower 3.4 Released.

There's much less of a distinction when you factor in just how much the SE windower sucks in comparison to the unofficial windower; without running any plugins, the unofficial one is significantly better.

Can you explain this to me ? The only thing the official windower does in let you play in windowed mode, how can this be worse than the other windower ?

If he and Mdkuser are so anti-Windower they wouldn't do events with Uzor who uses it.

I think you shouldn't assume X or Y person uses or doesn't use windower because Z person uses it. Yes I am against windower (with plugins) because all it does is assisting people that are lazy and most of the time give an advantage over people that wouldn't use it, which is cheating. Although if the people who you play with know a minimum of things about the game they know where it's safe to stand around a mob by just eyeballing, or even communicate their TP?

Man, I was gonna post a feedback thread regarding this, but honestly, given the bias I've seen in this thread, what's the use? The rule here is apparently "No cheats, except the ones people like", and I don't honestly see that changing.

This was the problem that was obvious from the very beginning when the windower defaulted to use cheat plugins and SE did nothing regarding it. Now, here we are years later, and the community feels it's not just acceptable, but they're entitled to do as they please in someone else's sandbox. I guess that's why this isn't going to change, as people as a whole are highly unlikely to admit that they're doing something wrong by doing something they were specifically told not to.

Even more of a disappointment is the apparent opinion of this website that the players, not the owners of FFXI are the ones who decide the rules (or at least choose to make exceptions based on their standards, and not those of Square-Enix)

I'd always known when SE added a windowed mode, it would separate those who wanted to legitimately be able to run their game in a window from those who were in it for the plugins. It's just depressing seeing the end result. Oh well.

Edit: In addition, to make a further point of what I've said, several posters here appear to be violently attached to the use of these tools, resorting to name-calling and expletives when someone calls it for what it is...
While I agree (I've said the very same thing before in regards to parsing) that people see some cheats as acceptable just because they use it, its so minor that there's no use getting worked up over it. You could compare it to pirating (that is, downloading movies and games from the Internet). While the companies themselves hate it, and some other people hate it, so many people do it that the majority of the population finds it acceptable, and each of them have their own reason as to why they find it acceptable. Sure, it is illegal, but in most people's opinion, it is acceptable. On the other hand, those very same people might also consider stealing or shop lifting from a store to be unacceptable, even though that is what they're doing when they download things from the Internet.

I actually know cops that find it completely acceptable to download things of the Internet. After all, they're only humans too and have their own opinions, even though they can't openly have them during their working hours.

If he and Mdkuser are so anti-Windower they wouldn't do events with Uzor who uses it.

Mdk isn't against Windower, Pchan is. I only use it for Windowed mode since its better then the official Windowed mode. Don't know about Mdk. I'm against the use of hacks, but I could still tolerate them in OH as long as they don't try to make me use them. Its the same with religion. I tolerate religion and can be friends with people that are religious, as long as they don't try to push their religion on me. They're human beings, and they can believe in what they want. As long as they're not murderers, rapists, abductors or w/e it doesn't bother me what they do with their time.

Just because you don't agree with people's opinions doesn't mean you can't do things with them or be friends with them.

The official windower runs like crap, the unofficial windower runs significantly smoother. SE's windower throws in extra lag, on top of other problems that the unofficial windower doesn't. That's why no one uses SE's windower, because it sucks.

I thought you were only arguing that parser was a cheat because you were bored, not because you were as stupid as Hellstorm and actually thought it was.

SE's windower eats your comps resources like a fat kid eats candy. People use windower in a windowed mode so that can look things up online while playing, or manage other programs. With the chime added to your /tells you can leave the game minimized and web surf or do your homework (i take online classes so this is a great help to me), while waiting for an invite, event to start, quest to reset, ect. And idk about you but i rather my web pages come up right away not 10 min later cause my comps memory is being devoured by a poorly designed program.

i don't use the windower macros, but i damn sure love the plugins. if SE's windower was better designed and wasn't such a resource hog i would probably use it. it was predicted that their version would fall short of the mark and we were correct. i didn't use it at first but i PM'd someone on here to explain it to me. He sold me on it and i gave it a shot (thanx again you know who you are). I have no advantage over anyone else on anything. It helps MY game personally.

Imo, there are certain plugins in windower (atleast now) that could really be crossing the line between helpful and hacking. Wireframe anyone? Theres more but yeah..

But saying windower macroes are bots is lol. Majority of people use windower for what the name entails, to window their FFXI. And like others said, SE's windower doesn't work as smoothly as the unofficial one. All in all, trying to ban all discussion of windower on the forum is absurd. Find something better to do with your free time.

wtf.jpg

What is this and how do I make it go away.

For clarification, there is a 4" section along the bottom that is solid black. I get no other picture than what you see there in the window. If I maximize the screen it will just stretch out that small portion with the really ugly scrambled shit along the right side only where the FFXI screen is.

My laptop used to do that back when I played, while my main comp didn't, I'd wager it has to do with your graphics card/drivers, might possibly be a mismatch between the resolution the game is setup up in, and the resolution the windower thinks the game is setup for.

Do you use Vista? I get the same problem.

I find SE's windowed mode actually runs better on vista than azarial's. (or however you spell their name)

I'm not dedicated to one or the other. They both do the job, and that's all I care about. I don't want to give up my ability to chat with friends and check my email just because I'm racing my chocobo.

My laptop and main comp both had windows XP sp2 and very similar programs installed, so I don't think it's related to the OS.

edit: laptop has home edition, main had pro edition, but I very very much doubt that would make the difference.

Ok, I'm on XPHome. I tried the whole Reset Config to default, start in fullscreen, log out, get back on windower and try and it just got worse. I tried the GUI launch with no borders, but I'm command retarded and idk where to type the toggle command because idk where the windower console is. I tried asking a friend that has it and he doesn't know either because his just worked.

I'm about to trash my computer.

I don't have any problem with lag or graphic with SE's windower, idk what you are talking about. The issues i've read here and there were due to people having crap pc or crap operating system like failvista. I did however get trouble when i used windower because it SUcKS in zone where the brightness is low. And no, I don't want to keep changing Gamma or whatever everytilme and zone.

You're one of the few people who don't have problems with SE's windower compared to the unofficial one then.

And yet, they don't have any problems running the unofficial windower; which is exactly what everyone with intelligence(ie: not you) has been saying, the unofficial windower is better. The fact that you don't need a good PC to run the windower without problems is just further proof of how crappy SE's windower is. The only Vista-unique problems I've heard about are the drivers or they just have to download the vista-compatible pol.exe; everything else seems to happen on XP as well.

I did however get trouble when i used windower because it SUcKS in zone where the brightness is low. And no, I don't want to keep changing Gamma or whatever everytilme and zone.
Your eyesight or your display must be really bad as well; I haven't had any issues at all seeing clearly in dark zones. With the gamma turned down, it looks infinitely better, but they gave the option to turn the gamma up if you wanted to. Your only complaint is meaningless too, since you can easily change the default gamma for the unofficial windower in the init.txt file. You not wanting to take incredibly simple steps to fix the "problem" aren't a fault of the program, it's a fault in your brain.

You would know if you used it.

And I probably shouldn't say this here, But SE's windower is based on a leaked 2.x source of the 'unofficial' one. The reason the unofficial one is "better" is because it's properly supported by the people that made it originally.

@Morwen, that's an extremely common bug, if you look at the stickies on the Windower forum, you will find the solution to your problem. Link here: http://forums.windower.net/index.php?showtopic=11033 (pretty sure they fixed it)

The low Gamma issue with Windower 3.3 and below was addressed/fixed in Windower 3.4.

From now on. I just Suggest to everyone to Ignore the Naysayers. They're the kinds of folks that seriously have nothing better to do with thier time than force thier beliefs on others. They are control freaks, plain and simple. And they are in control every time you respond to them. Just Rate up those in this thread, that'd annoy them further, as expressed by thier need to rate everyone here down. They care about thier ratings, I suggest you care about THIER ratings too =]

For such 'strict rule abiding citizens' they sure did break a few here flame baiting, derailing, and harrassment. I suggest the mods review this thread and act accordingly. As should the other readers. Rate each other up, join in the circle jerk. I will do my part too. This is QCDN after all, ratings are serious business...

Don't criticize one group, unless you intend to point the finger at ALL wrong doings Phraust.

(( No offense Bajaratt, you were just the first example I saw ))

I thought you were only arguing that parser was a cheat because you were bored, not because you were as stupid as Hellstorm and actually thought it was.
Yes, I was bored. While I don't agree that using parser or windower is wrong, Garvin (and Hellstorm in that thread) did bring up a valid point, in that they are breaking the rules according to SE. They are only considered OK because the community as a whole consider it OK. Hence my pirating/shoplifting analogy. It is hypocrisy, because whether we like it or not, it is breaking the rules set by SE, and according to SE, is cheating by giving an unfair advantage. They're OK because the community think so. There is a clear line drawn between Windower plugins, Parser and bots/hacks. For some, it is drawn after Parser/Windower, but before plugins. For some, it is drawn after plugins. For some (and SE is included in this group) it is drawn before all of them, meaning they consider all of them cheats. Just because the community see one thing as acceptable doesn't necessarily not make it a cheat, as that is decided by the people that made the game, not us.

And yes, I think Windower is OK as well, but it is a valid point. Like it or not.
