Why is it necessary to fuel the need for greedy behaviour?

greed·y: 1. Excessively desirous of acquiring or possessing, especially wishing to possess more than what one needs or deserves.

I didn't know you had the ability to decide what someone needs or deserves. Raising the price on a rare item when you know you have a very good chance of it selling for said price is not greed. It's finding a market that has been getting away with paying less than they were willing to.

greed

n 1: excessive desire to acquire or possess more (especially more material wealth) than one needs or deserves 2: reprehensible acquisitiveness; insatiable desire for wealth (personified as one of the deadly sins) [syn: avarice, covetousness, rapacity, avaritia]

Please note the bold. Thanks.

Once again, explain to me how charging a price that someone is willing to buy is greedy.

I'm pretty sure the person willing to pay 5 million for the item would have been perfectly satisfied paying 2 million for it. But because the other person isn't willing to only accept 2 million for the item, the other person accepts to satisfy the other person's desire. But I'm sure the seller really DESERVED the extra 3 million.

And I'd be perfectly satisfied paying 10 gil for every goddamn item in the game. The potential buyer can also decide that 5 million is too much and cost that seller 100k every 3 or 4 days until they lower it. The seller took a risk and it paid off. That's not greed, that's just good business.

macro > micro

Vermillion cloak for 5 million? Why not just force-feed a RDM gil to come along and cast Refresh and Haste on all the mages in your group?

Normally, Sabia, you have a nice level head, but it seems like your rage at players who can afford more than you is really escalating.

This doesn't seem like the case. It seems like she's getting mad at the stupid decisions stupid people make.

There is good and bad to people like Vang flaming of people with bad gear. The good is you have better players all around, the bad is that they make foolish decisions and trade offs in thier idiotic quest for better gear. Paying a couple thousand or even a hundred thousand over the price of something is understandable.

Paying 2.5 million over the listed price is just plain stupid, especially the item drawn into question, espeically when you can see the price history right in front of your face. Here is a classic example of a stupid decision and they should be flamed and made a of fool of as if they had gimp gear. Why? Well just a gimp stupid players make life hell for other party members, stupid people make life hell for the buyers at the Auction House.

If you pay 2.5 million over the price of an item I'd say you should quit because your too fucking stupid to play this game.

hehe.. she should get used to it if she wants to keep her sanity.. cause things are just gonna continue like this... Leaping boots were once 100k or even lower, Emperor Hairpin used to be 200k and O.Kote used to be 250k, the astral rings were 30k for the first month or so of the american release... and look at their prices now... it's sad... and it's gonna get worse.. wanna know what Kraken clubs were at one point? it'll make you cry....

If you buy a V12 Vanquish for $350,000 I'm going to congratulate you and say it's a beautiful car and how you worked hard to get it. If you buy a Hyundai Accent for $350,000 just because you have the money I'm going to call you a fucking idiot....get my drift?

The difference here is that Hyundai isn't selling their Accent for $350,000, they're selling it for about $12,000 because that's what they know the car is worth. And if a dealer marked up their Accents for $350k (or even $25-30k, for that matter) they'd be staring at a full car lot for ages because nobody would be willing to pay it. Then again, if Hyundai only released 5 Accents a month and let them go to the highest bidder, you might see people willing to pay that much just to be the first on their block to own one.

When it comes to something rare and in-demand, we don't know what the 'accepted' price is because there's not enough of a sample to determine it. We'll know for sure once Earrings get returned unsold, but until then don't think of this as some massive price gouging, think of it as people selling that same Accent that's worth $12k at $7k because they didn't know they could get $12k, and now they know better.

Mmm, V12 Vanquish, I'd farm 5 million gil for that baby

Me to Galaika, me too. Besides even if it was the last Hyundai Accent on the planet and you paid $350,000 for it I'd still call you a fucking idiot.

Using this example as an analogy to what Sabia is complaining about.

IF Hyundai marked the Accent up for $350k and the world was full of fucking idiots like Vanadiel is everybody would pay the $350k and blame Hyundai and call them gilsellers.

This is the reality of what is happening right now in game. Its hilarious.

I think Im one of the few people that has the capability but wont excersise it if I feel its not worth it... I save a lot of money this way.

That requires patience, which is unsuprisingly absent in the general server population.

If people paid attention to what items they were going to need and watched them rise and fall in price while they levelled up they might have the common sense to know what the right time to buy was.

Unfortunately there is a lot of players that have no regard to gil or this game and dont really care how much they pay for an item as long as they have it.

And if your not one of those players then you also are potentially a 14 year old kid that has no idea of the value of money and how much things are worth or how economies work.

There is truely very few people who have the intelligence to play a game like this to its fullest and most efficient.

I am not sure its as simple as you people put it. You keep calling people that bid higher and higher idiots but everyone does it. Why? Because everyone here is under the same assumption: The price is only going to get higher. Under this current thought process, people assume and I think they assume correctly, that the price after they purchase it will only go up. To them, if they pay 5 million gil now and prices are going to rise, they saved themselves money in the long run. They probably also think if they do not buy it, someone else will. And since the price is higher this sale, then more than likely the next seller will see they can get away with a higher price tag and sell for more again. Its a continuous process and never ends. There are certain exceptions, such as new items, but for the most part this holds true.

I dont think having more Rare/Ex items is the answer to the problems. Think of a couple GREAT items that you just dont see too often. Orthinius Bow...best weapon for Rangers arguably. Now think about getting it! Ask Meeze. This guy has a SHIT drop rate. I know people 0/4, 0/9 etc. This is for a monster that is a lottery pop as well by the way, which means you have to KILL shit for it to even pop. Then it can go for up to 5 hours... So this wouldnt be SOO bad, except for two things... It cant be solo'ed. Nobody can solo it. A Rdm 75 buddy of mine couldnt solo it. That means you are going to be wasting a LOT of other peoples time. I am not going to get it because of this. I know my friends would willingly help me, but I cant ask that kinda time from them. Second, the amount of Rangers now is just ridiculous. I want fast invites, and be wanted at end-game. That is the reason most of the people go Ranger now... There are quite a few Rangers in the mid-60's trying to get this at the moment, making it even harder.

What else? How about Voyagers Sallet. One of the BEST headpieces avaliable for most melee up until about 50ish and beyond even. +3 Dex and +4 Str or the other way around. Either way, blows the Hairpin outta the water. How do you get it? Well first you have to complete Promyvions. Then you have to gather together 3 Summoners at the minimum willing to camp with you. Then you have to go beat 10 NM at once. Yep... Oh they are a 21-24 hour spawn as well... Understandable why so few people have even heard of this thing.

No Rare/Ex isnt the answer at all..
