I disagree. I don't think the people who are considered assholes need or want a reason to behave like such. What would happen if we got rid of the current tier of idiocy is that the elite would just pursue the next lowest tier. It might be Hellstorm today, but it might be you or me tomorrow. There will always be a lowest tier. It just has to work its way up as the elite drive everyone they don't like out of QCDN.
 
Ok, I worded that wrong. People wouldn't feel the need to be assholes as much as they do now.
 
One solution might be to require more accurate thread titles. "Good times or Flame? I lol'd" might draw in people uninterested in the content, but "Problem player in Valkurm Dunes" would leave people who entered no excuse to complain. Whether you close threads or change the titles, you still require the same amount of staff overhead/time investment. This way, the poster can still vent, and those who don't want to read it won't have to. Just require accurate titles in the flameboard, and noone will be unpleasantly surprised on entering a thread.

I think one of the problems is that some people are idiots who only know how to be assholes. If that makes any sense.

Just because you don't give a shit about something doesn't mean you speak for the whole community. And no, I don't think a constant reminder of how bad the Dunes suck is always warrented, but again, just because the topic title doesn't have any relevance to anything you care about doesn't mean the topic is moot. It really isn't that fucking hard to skip a topic over. It's not like there is only a little bit of limited space to post shit around here, and the topics you don't care about are taking the place of other more entertaining threads.

Ok, I apologize to the community for gauging your interest in something you thought would be more exciting, It was not a flame on loldunes it was a flame on the player saying "hey this person is shitty please watch out." I'm sure if I had been invited to say, bhaflau thickets, that person's communication skills would suck just as much. Take the post for what it's worth and not just because it had the word "dunes" or "valkurm" in it.

Only mentioning that post because it was brought up in here.

This is just my take on forums:

*Accidentally reading something and then clicking the back button because it sucked, didn't kill you or anyone else.

*You were bored enough to even go into the flameboard and click on something that didn't have a character's name to point out an obvious flame, so you were probably halfway entertained and don't want to admit it. Get off the high horse, please.

*If it wasn't a proper "flame" in your eyes and it's still staying on the board, then that either means A) The moderators of the forum deemed it to be valid and you're wrong or B) The moderators are poor overworked souls and couldn't get to it, in which case you can simply report it and move on with your life.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to pick a fight with anyone, I just don't mind having a somewhat intellectual debate on this for the time being.

You forget, QCDN has three tiers of members. The staff, the three or four people who decide what is and is not worthy of their time (and thus everyone else's time) and the peons. If the elite deem a topic is unworthy of them, then there is no further discussion. Skipping a post or a thread is below them. Only the finest and most intellectually stimulating discussions are worthy of their heaven blessed eyes. They forget, (even a forum deity can forget) that while they might have read a post a million times, a new person might not have. But what good is a new person. Such peons should be grovelling at their feet, begging for the priveledge to fan them, and serve them lemonade, and maybe post an approved topic.

But On-topic...

Dunes threads as much as they are um... "informative" they do tend to get over played especially during dull flame seasons like summer.

Although to each his own I guess, and although people do have the option of skipping over threads. I guess more people are like me and have an OCD episode when stuff is cluttered, unread etc...

Oh my... the problem is not that there are lolflames about the loldunes...
The problem is people posting about totally irrelavant issues... omg... I met a noob, omg... they cant spell, omg... they have bad equipment, omg... they make me say omg <.<

There are many people like that... there is no need to start a flame about them... because it always will be the same crap <.<
Yesterday I pted with a THF who was wearing a lvl 14 hand piece at lvl 69. Even if I was still on Quetz I wouldnt have posted a flame... or my several encounters with idiots on Quetz...

When you have a look on the flame board and check the last say 50 or 100 flames you can so many lolflames <.< all with almost the same content... some of these only got funny/interesting flames because someone started to attack the OP

I used to have so much fun reading the flameboard in the past... now in 90% of the cases its just boring.
And please dont come again with: when you dont like it dont read it... you post there so you want people to read it, then also accept when people criticise your flame <.<

Cant we just get a new sticky thread where we can collect all these lolflames.. I mean like the LOLpics thread... you have a funny pic you post it there... and same with when someone meets a noob and thinks its worth posting <.<?
 
We can find the first of every topic, sticky it, and disallow all future repetitions of said topic. We could sticky the first Dunes thread, and noone would be allowed to make Dunes threads because we all read about them before. We could sticky the first I beat Maat thread, because really, aren't we sick of congratulating people for the same crap every day? We could sticky parser the first endgame LS drama thread, because once you've read 50 pages of useless crap, you won't see anything different the next 20 times it happens. We could have one single hello thread, because really, they're all the same: "Hey all, I'm new here!" So what, right? Nothing I haven't read a million times. When we're all done, Miros, Arc and co can retire and posting can be closed, because QCDN will be a bulletin board - a FAQ.

Irrelevent topic? Not to the person who posted it. Who are we to sit around all high and mighty like our topics descended from the twelve apostles? They're all boring and meaningless to someone.
