My friend had a Nike symbol shaved into the back of his head. We were 9. I still make fun of him to this day.

It sounds like the people who are offended by his good bye statement are upset because it hit a little too close to home. The game is a time sucking whore if you let it be. There are too many things in the game designed to take an extraordinary amount of time to do because the game is designed to be that way. SE wants you playing for as long as possible so you keep paying your monthly dues. Self control is not something everyone is good at. This is just his attempt to find some and I wish him the best of luck.

You need to let it go. If it bothered you that much you're priorities aren't straight. There I said it. Stop taking shit so damn personally. You have your RL in control and don't let your game life get in the way. That's wonderful and very adult of you. Kudos you.

Iaredrew admitted he had a problem and resolved the problem in the manner he knew best. Why do you feel the need to come down on him? Admitting a problem (regardless of it's delivery) is step one to solving it. All he did was admit a problem and voiced his realization of long term effects. It doesn't have to be about you. Everything isn't always about you or directed at you if that was your motivation for getting upset over something someone typed.

Its not that I took it personally. Its that not specifically his but I'm just tired of people who played this game making a goodbye thread that's supposed to be an epiphany to the people who still play. If you quit, you quit. Say goodbye and go away as the title says. It is just a game, if you realized that your goodbye thread would be as simple as "Hey guys I'm leaving it was fun. /goodbye" The flame is more of a blast to the people who quit and think that its a big deal. Good job! You stopped playing a video game. I'm sure you'll miss people but honestly unless you plan on meeting them for lunch one day years down the road just drop it you're not going to stay close to anyone you met over a video game unless you know them IRL.

As for iaredrew being in his 20's ok, someone mentioned he was 13, I took the bait. I was mistaken.
 
His statement would have only personally affected you if you have a reason to be defensive about playing the game. Having said that, you more than likely feel as if the statement was meant as a personal attack against you, and anyone else that plays the game.

Theoretically, you took the point of the statement incorrectly, and too close to heart. Don't look too strongly into it, it was just a general statement to anyone, and can be applied to anything that is meant to serve as conventional entertainment that people let "in" a little bit too much or closely.

Ease up a bit, only advice I have for ya.
 
I didnt find it insulting before but now that he's called everyone that plays "a cesspool of morons" because we dont like gilbuying i'm leaning that way.

Out of context, Khaj. I'll miss the idea of chatting with people like you and others that I said weren't assholes. It was aimed at the people who are rating me down and leaving hateful comments for no apparent reason. Not aimed at people that I somehow apparently think I'm better than. Sorry for the confusion.

The good times thread was somewhere to share my story and get a last word and hopefully some form of outside contact from the people I wanted to thank. If you took it offensively, as if it was a lecture aimed at any one person in particular, come down from your damn high cloud already, sheesh.

Thank you to all the people that actually have common sense and understood what I was saying. I made mistakes and I'm on a long, bumpy road to fixing them. I disliked the real world and FFXI was an easy substitute at the time. I'm not happy about it.

Lastly, the gilbuying thing was a light-hearted relief to an unpleasant post. Nothing more.
