All around best job for soloing.

PLD/NIN is good for EP-EM

Great defense, good offense, good weaponskills, healing magic, buffing magic, and shadows to take damage.

Good points on the RDMes they can take down some big enemies. I still give them a tie though because I've seen so many thieves just go from one DC mob to the next without stopping for an hour same with ninja. What about SMN with Carby Mitts? Carby would cost nothing so you could just keep recasting him and be far enough away by the time it dies then recast lol. Itll be slow as hell but you could kill alot of things. Time for class bbl.

About RDMs being a tie, I'd have to disagree. With or without the spells, RDMs are slower (granted), but they can solo tougher mobs (especially with spells), and from what I can see (though I havn't seriously tested this) Fast Cast affects Utsusemi, so we can get it up faster and cast it again sooner. If RDM want to, we also have access to a ton more EVA+ gear than NIN and THF, which would put us up on evasion a bit.

But, kinda like has been said in a coupel posts. for effectiveness (drops, XP, speed) RDM is not your option, but if you need something and you don't have everything you need for it, RDM it.

(btw, I solo'd Ose starting at 71 <.< For RDM's wishing to try, /WHM is better. I've had to chainspell+spam Paralyna a couple times)
Rdm does not get a ton more evasion gear than nin or thf. Scorp Harness, Op hat, Evasion torque, Toreador's cape, Scouter's Rope, Elusive earring and dance shoes are all usable by all 3 jobs, and are the highest evasion available for the slot for any of the 3 jobs. Nin and thf have ungur boomerang (evasion +8) in a slot rdm has no evasion equip. The only real slots where rdm can beat out either job is in pants (by 2 evasion, except at night when ninja has more) and offhand (with genbu's shield)

5 more evasion is not a ton, especially when you consider that Rdm evasion caps at 210, where ninja caps at 269, and thf caps at 276 with a ton of accuracy bonus job traits. Ninja can also sub thf to get some of their accuracy bonuses, and still have utsusemi, thf can sub ninja for utsusemi and not lose any evasion, rdm can't have both.

His recast timer also goes down to 22 seconds, whereas mine is 30. These are cast / recharge times for :Ichi, but Fast Cast does apply to :Ni as well.

That has nothing to do with Fast Cast. That is entirely because of Haste. Fast Cast is just that. You cast spells faster. You don't recover them any sooner. Haste however affects recovery, but not casting speed.

Fast cast does shorten recast time, I tried it out as brd/rdm and found my songs' recasts going from 24 to 23 seconds with fast cast 1, haven't tried it with fast cast 2 (this was a long time ago) Haste will only knock off 1/6 of your recast, tested this one with a 1 minute recast spell, went from 60 seconds to 50, so a 30 second recast would only drop to 25 with haste alone. A rdm once told me each fast cast trait takes one second off recast of all spells, regardless of recast time.

edit - just tested fast cast II as brd/rdm, with JSE hands (song recast -2) mazurka went from 58 to 53 seconds, and a standard buff went from 22 to 20 seconds.

Yeah I didn't realize the Presidential Hairpin was so useless... it'd be nice to see some more 3hp regen items. Even the Barone Corazza (70WAR/DRG) and Unicorn Harness (74WAR) only give 2hp.

Side note, anyone have a Rain Hat yet? Rare/exc drop off an NM in Zi'tah, gives regen under rainy weather. I'm curious as to how much it gives (probably only 1). Tried camping him a few times, but 2-4 hour camps and multiple weather shifts showed no signs of him.

Edit: also curious about the Mushroom Hat from an NM funguar in Boyadha... another MNK-equippable item.

I know as a fact, DRG/WHM blows most other jobs out of the water, thanks to HB. I can solo much more efficiently then alot of jobs. RDM/NIN is nice, cause of shadows, but that isn't until 74. DRG/WHM starts at lvl1 and has HB1 which with Wyrm Armet grows to HBV.

Thank you.

rdm is most likely the best over all because of the fact of all the spells we have. out of all the job I think rdm is only one that can use any sub and benifit from it<drg can to but rdm does it better> 8)

blm got upper hand in bcnm ive seen a blm solo the enm75 brother was nice vis :D

thf not really best solo but they can be good for getting thing and are the best at farming. :o

smn are the best when it comes to soloing mob that explode and for mob that have alot of hp. smn can solo mobs like lumberjack no problem.

bst are best for exp maybe but are limited to what and where they can fight.

Summoners can solo bombs and crap that has a tendancy to explode.
Sounds messy.

SMNs can theoretically solo 51-75 via Ifrit's and Ulegurand. At 55-6 I can get around 2k-3500/hr in Ifrit's without too much risk (only real trouble is at night when you need to Sneak around bats.) With some lucky Self-Destructs chain 3-4 is possible. Even without the XP/hr is about equal to the average level 50s pt nowadays so when I'm bored/want a Cauldron key/etc I head out there and have a little fun with the bombs.

I think THF is better than NIN in most solo situations, solely because THF has a level of evasion bonus that you can only get with THF main, and because thf can use bloody bolts and sleep blots. Sure, NIN can paralyze, blind, and slow, but thf gets super powerful blind bolts which make a huge difference, and also acid bolts help the weak dagger damage.

One time I watched a thf/war and a whm duo Behemoth like it was nothing. :/

Well, if you want to get technical. A MNK could theoretically solo mobs that do not have any damaging skills without suffering any downtime. I'm talking worthless things like Defense Downs, Slows, and selfbuffs on the mobs. Crawlers would be one of the better examples, since Poison Breath damage isn't based on Defense, but rather water resistance.

Counterstance.

With luck, you'll never, ever get touched outside of mob skills. Plus, it kills the mob faster.

RDM is considered the "best" simply because of the little risk involved. However, it takes for-ev-er. Sure it's safe, but if you want to go with Best as in how fast they can take down a mob close to, or higher than their level in record time, it goes to MNK.

Basically, you should eliminate any Utsusemi cheese combos. WAR/NIN, RDM/NIN, THF/NIN, NIN/NIN(:P) simply because it's all the same. You buy the security with a reduction in kill speed. Just the method of killing changes job to job. Anyone can be a good soloer while abusing Ninja as a subjob. Very few jobs can actually get it done without it.

I'm not saying MNK is the be all end all solo job. Cause like I explained earlier. Sure, you kill like you've got a bazooka against a peice of paper, but your downtime is hellacious.

RDM ftw! Not only is the /NIN a good solo-ing way to go.. but if you want, go /BLM or /WHM and kite kill. The best way to kill the really tough crap ^^

DRG/WHM is also awesome. The fact they can cure themselves for virtually no MP and with yag drinks they don't really need to rest much. Go DRG!

SMN is definetely an over powered solo-er XD a good SMN will have no problem solo-ing most things. Though the really tough stuff like a HNM.. doubtful (a RDM/NIN used to be able to solo Serket before the window stupid thing >.>)

And MNK is indeed a pretty good job at solo-ing, as Skaw pointed out. I remember watching Odhinn solo Yagudo High Priest. That was nuts.

The only reason I disagree about THF > NIN at soloing is for the simple fact NIN can sub WHM and make a few mistakes a THF can't. Also, with auto regen and the Shinobi Gi recovery rate of HP is excellent when needed. I think the only THF regen gear are those R/EX bangels and subbing WHM wouldn't work for killing Higer Lv mobs...you'd get eaten without Utsusemi. Aside from that I would agree...and know.

Also Ele, soloing Serket is pretty weak(pre-strength gaining phase). I would think anything /NIN could solo him overtime. His accuracy is piss poor at best and all he has is that nasty poison but hey that's what poisona and Antidotes are for. I've done it about 5 times sucessfully out of 7 and on the wins the only damage I took was from the damn poison. The only jobs I've failed to see solo it is a WHM and BST but I'm 100% sure a BST could own it up and WHM could struggle it out.

We all know BST is the best. So dont even put them on your list.

I have always liked this saying since I heard it. "BST don't solo they bring along a friend." j/k

As for my vote (if we exclude BST), RDM/NIN and RDM/BLM are the best soloers in my opinion, but I will concede my opinion is biased.

not really that why there so many rdm because we can do it all

Thief is good to solo, but if a Thief can solo it, then a RDM or a Ninja could solo it just as easy if not easier. And about Wyvernpoacher, he's an easy solo. Someone said THF couldn't solo Serket, yeah they could just take antidotes, bloody bolts, sleep bolts and some blind bolts.

But how do you deal with being MPKed?

Move or flee :P

Bloody bolts more than make up for Whm sub in my opinion. Also if they make a mistake sleep bolt is plenty of time to recast or one could just disengage, flee, and then just recast. Yea i think RDM wins overall toughest soloer. I tihnk thief takes next best because of their versatility and little to no downtime. Now people who said monk or drg and are not subbing nin there is no comparison. Mnk would be ten minutes in between fight. And DRG wouldnt make it through long fights (example-High level crabs or large HP mobs or anything with a stoneskin or Defense up skill). how many hits could a dragoon take from a 10k HP mob? Say the mob hits him for 100 dmg a pop and its a minute long fight the drg would constantly be healing himself. Meh Drg is good but isnt able to keep up with nin thief or rdm imo. And like stated before anything/nin gives a huge advantage but that actually makes no sense. The reason ninja and thief can pull off soloing well is because the mobs miss them very consistently so that reduces cast time. Something like a mnk or war with average-low eva will be constantly casting.

Most deadly solo figure in the game i think would be a Galka RDM/NIN, with the 75 Excaliber sword totally beefed up in one hand, and in the other hand, either an enhancing sword, a Kraken club (enhancing magic on this does so much wrong to RDM prey), or (i can't remember the name of that other RDM specific sword, the one that lowers enemy DEF).

Galka RDM soloing like this. The Idea is not about nuking, or simply using MP to heal up. It's about a job and character that just won't die.

The Excaliber sword for RDM and PLD gives the weilder the WS "Knights of the Round". I read how the DMG is proportional to how much HP the RDM or PLD currently has, which in the Galka RDMs case 100% HP seeing on how he has Uts, and Stoneskin. And maybe Phalanx if the enemy get's a wee little chance to scratch the RDM/NIN.

Even without enhancing magic up, RDM's of all mages, are the most difficult to interrupt while casting, so if a RDM/BLM is caught in a multiple link of mobs that read as tough, with no gaurds up, they will most likely still let off a successful Sleepaga in 1-2 attempts before they get beat down.

Every ws for the relic weapons that I've heard about so far has been suckage damage-wise, although they provide nice boosts to certain things. Proportionate to HP doesn't mean equal to hp. Damage equal to 5% of your hp is proportionate to your hp. I doubt that sword would get a high damage ws from a relic weapon while the DD jobs don't.
