Atheism

Uzor stop writing so much >.>

That being said (seems like that phrase has been used every post), Kirlua nailed it earlier, Tolerance is the key. We can discuss, debate, argue, and fight over what is right, religion or atheism (that is what it all boils down to). I think everyone needs to just take a step back, and stop generalizing. The reason alot of people are what they are is based on experiences. Like me, for example, I had an overwhelming experience at my church one day when the pastor stood over me. He made me feel something totally un explainable, and totally amazing and pleasant. Thats why I am a christian, I had an experience. I believe alot of Athiests just simply havent had such an experience that changed their beliefs, and thats fine.

All I ask is for people to consider others beliefs, and not chime in unless asked for.

You said it perfectly. Im tired of people telling other people whos right and whos wrong. Why not just respect the beliefs of other people, and leave it at that?

If I didn't think their was some truth to what I believed I wouldn't believe it. As long as people have some good reason that they understand for what they believe I am cool with it, otherwise I will probably give them shit, because they need to start asking questions.

actually I didnt mind Uzor's thoughts on it, it just gives me another way to stretch my mind(by thinking)

I believe I have the answers to them but I'll pm to you when I think they are decent enough since this thread doesn't serve that purpose I believe

if thats ok with you Uzor or you did not want to debate on the subject?

I agree wholeheartedly in what you're saying. However the flip side to this, of course, is that many of us that don't clearly define our faith had an experience totally opposite yours in an organized religious setting, which is kind of a bummer.

I don't mind, that's up to the person that started this topic :p

I like discussions about religion, since I'm generally rather interrested in religion. Especially the less known ones like Mayan religion or egyptian religion.

Probably a good thing I'm not, I'd be smiting people left and right.

People laugh and think the Spaghetti monster is a joke but when you get down to it the olnly thing it truely lacks on mainstream religions (beyond people and funding) is age. The monster itself is obviously satire, however in the end both that and the mainstream religons are made up of pure faith. The fact that they are older gives them more credibility in the eyes of billions of people. Why are the ancient Helenistic or Nordic, or Earth Goddess religions given even more credibility. These are religions that predate christanity by thousands of years.

You can not disprove the Spaghetti monster, therefore its real. The burden of proof always falls upon those who question religion. How could you disprove something that can not be seen, measured, or interacted with in any way.

That being said you can not prove it exists one way or another, only come up with vague circumstances/incidents and say, hey look we don't have a logical explanation(YET), science has failed, praise jesus its the work of god or some such.

I certainly don't hate any religions, though I'm more agnostic (I think?).

Hypocrisy like that is kinda silly though. But people are people no matter what they label themselves as. IMHO: Its your 12.95/mo, live how you want to.

I guess I would consider myself an athiest. I don't believe in a God. I think there could be something bigger than us, but I don't understand why we always make things we don't understand out to be something "holy" or "divine".

I think if there is a God, most people who have done things in the name of Religion are going to hell... Excluding those who have done kind acts in the name of religion.

I didn't notice if anyone had posted links to this yet or not, but here is the Richard Dawkins Brittish television series called "The Root of All Evil":

2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_aw1O6nyms

It's a really good series. The United States doesn't have the balls to broadcast this show. It basically shows how religion in general is hurting everyone. Also if you get the chance, read Richard Dawkins book, "The God Delusion".

As for me, I am a very strong atheist. There is no proof that a god exists. Argue that fact all you want, there is no proof that there is a god. Most people only believe that there is one because they were brought up that way by their parents.

There is no need for religion. No need for rational intellegent adults to believe in an imaginary friend. No need to hurt or kill anyone because of what they believe.

Alright Nietzsche where is your mustache!

I called myself an atheist for a while. I don't think that properly sums it up though. Atheism denies the existance of a god, but gives no viable explanation for the beginings of life. Sure, people would point to scientific evidence to prove that the earth is this many years old and we evolved from this creature or that creature...

While these theories hold more water than evidence presented by religion, they are still full of holes all over the place.

This is an interesting read. I've posted it before, but I don't know how many of you read it then.

People get too easily offened over religion. A lot of people forget who they are and become only who their religon wants them to be.

You don't need an explanation for life. It's just there. With an unlimited ammount of outcoms, there's an unlimited ammount of life. The only reason holes exist is because we simply don't know the answers to those parts, so we can't answer them. That doesn't mean its wrong.

Throw up that defense...

Cause that last line leaves some one to counter with:

"OOHOHOH THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S RIGHTZORZ!!"

^-^

Anyway everyone, continue to wax intellectual about such trivial matters and give yourselves that headache some of you genuinely mistake for thought-provoking conversation.

<3

This thread is a circle of opinions all of which which lack the empirical evidence to support your claims.

Whether they're to be deemed truthful or otherwise will come with time, if even.

Sooooooooooooooooooo...

Let's all cut the crap, go group hug and make s'mores by the fire.

/em hugs the QCDN community members who're coming to make s'mores.

This never would've happened if I were sober. ;-;

Edited: Typos and such. -- Still drunkenstein and didn't catch 'em all. Be easy on me you English majors.
