Bad Red Mages?

RDMelee in parties are... how do I put this nicely... greatly frowned upon.

RDM melee is just a fun thing to do in campaign or soloing. You should never be meleeing in exp parties unless you're just messing around.

bump still waiting for hellstorm comments.

And quick question, for HNM do you guys usually do Dia III and bio II? Or generally ditch bio altogether?

Well some HNMs don't get DoT's at all incase of the need of emergency sleep such as Fafhog.

I'm curious being a new 75 Rdm myself and looking at merits, do you merit Dia III fully for greater effect. And is Bio III even touched?

on a more serious note

if you do melee in a party, do it like a real bad ass and sub drk
souleater vorpal blade rocks so much ass youll go blind

But wait . . . /DRK means only one sword . . .

That doesn't matter. You'll be subbing Dark Knight, and while a Purist DRK I am and say "yuck", it will be associated with Dark Knighthood, and that I can endorse wholeheartedly.

  • Keep refresh up by start 1st cast on yourself, tank, others
  • Haste is just like refresh
  • Debuff when needed but in some cases the people don't want some buffs gone. Example (the cows in the bay they do berserk which lowers there def alot for quicker kills)
  • Heal just when needed, I main healed to 75 so that might be an option for you.
  • Have an macro for gear changes like your resting MP, staffs for different buffs, and debuffs. Example ( Bind is Ice)
  • Have fun with red mage
best of luck to you

hey guys. how about we let her GET to the endgame spectrum of the game first before we overload her with info that can wait till then.

when a teacher teaches a class they give lessons in steps, not the whole school curriculum at once.

Doesn't matter, just sticky/subscribe to the thread, come back later when the info applies.

As for convert... It's a slight annoyance for me when I do it, since I have to swap in HP+ MP+ gear (includes pieces like ebullient/mana ring), cure myself, then convert. I use absolutely no -HP at all and do not recommend it for Taru, although I do recognize it's the 'easier' route. After hitting 71 I also now include Fourth Mace and Numinous shield to further boost my convert ratio.

check the last page of your 75 post on rdm i left the thread hyperlink

lol I meant what I said and maybe I should clarify:

Generally, Dia's will overwrite Bio's.

However, if you cast Tier-II Dia, then cast Tier-I Bio, the Dia will not overwrite the Bio effect.

No matter what, a Tier-I spell will not overwrite a Tier-II spell in this line.

Silly Lucki :D
Um, what? It might be because I'm drunk leading me to not understand the bolded (which you bolded) in question, but this is not true. Generally, Dia's will not overwrite Bio's. Its the other way around. Bio will always overwrite Dia, Bio II will always overwrite Dia II, and Bio III will always overwrite Dia III. Bio is the stronger of the two, and this take precedence, unless Dia is of a higher tier.
i
truly, rule of thumb is to use Dia II then Bio I unless you party specifies otherwise.
No, the rule of thumb isn't to cast Bio I after Dia II, as Bio I will only do a slight amount of initial damage with no DoT, as Dia II is on. Casting Bio after Dia II is just stupid, unless you're skilling Dark Magic up.

Yes. You are drunk, and are misinterpreting massively what I was saying.

I touched on this earlier. Bio overwrites Dia as a tiered rule. The order of lowest-highest hierarchy is as follows:

Dia I < Bio I < Dia II < Bio II

Bio II overwrites Dia II overwrites Bio I overwrites Dia I.

The reason you want Dia II more than Bio II is because you want the mob to die faster, not for you to survive longer (strange as that sounds).

And yes -- she had best damn well be skilling up Dark Magic at every chance she gets seeing as how Bio, Drain, and Aspir are the only spells she'll have access to unless (for some strange reason) she is subbing DRK pre-75.

Forgive me if it's already been mentioned. A little trick someone told me before I started using yarnball.

A good way to keep Refresh recasted on time is to start the order at :00 or another familiar :minute of the Vanadiel clock. Refresh lasts 2min 30sec and a Vanadiel hour lasts 2 minutes 24 seconds, which gives ample time to recast on yourself, and everyone else afterwards.

Sorry, this is wrong. Haste lasts 3min and Refresh lasts 2min 30sec.
Hmm maybe he meant the order of casting rather than length of time lasting, Hasting yourself to combat the slow effects some mobs spam can alter that timing a bit too.

usually to space out orders i mix in the refresh with the haste. Usually once i'm done casting one i can switch to another

i thought refresh was 2.5 mins though? or maybe i interpreted that as 2 mins and 50 seconds instead of 2 and a half.

/facepalm
Yeah, he probably did mean the order, which is correct.

I never understood the purpose of hasting the paladin (if that's your tank.. I get hasting ninja tanks as it helps casting time's w. utsusemi) if you're in an exp party. IMO it's just a waste of what, 40 mp? And I'm a Paladin and a Red Mage lv 75.... it just doesnt make sense to me yet I do it anyway. I mean, so they hit a little faster.. it's not like they're doing much more damage >.> so that doesn't really increase hate control in theory... so what's the friggin purpose of why we haste paladins?? Cure timer's dont change, job abilities don't change.. someone enlighten me please lol.
