Best Buy BS.

No, HE broke the item, him putting a magnet on the HD is the same as putting a hammer through a TV screen.
actually its not, a hamer through a tv is a bit noticable that you did infact through a hammer through a tv. hard drives can come unballenced on there own magnets just dont help.

breaking it is breaking it, they both end the warranty. Once you purposefully break an item it is no longer covered. Then to go get it repaired makes a fraudulent claim. In other words, it is theft. Your friend stole a 40G HD and labor to replace it.

He decieved BB into getting something he didn't pay for, how is that different from decieving a GS out of a cape?

If it wasn't covered under the warrenty the guys would of told him at the counter when he took it in to get it fixed. he didn't ask for a larger hard drive he just asked them to fix it and they did. they made the decision to put the 40gig in there since they didn't carry 20gigs in store anymore. It was an agreement made 2yrs prior when he bought the pc that they would fix it when broken. Best buy held up to there end of the bargan after all they get paid the same whether they fix it or not.

The agreement says it will fix any manufacturer problems, not breaking it yourself. You said earlier you can get BB to do free upgrades by decieving them. You also said it was ok because they mark up parts and make so much off of the warranties anyway.

You are just justifying stealing, it is stealing no matter how you like to look at it.

Knowing full well you're going to break something purposefully for the sole means of getting something better in return (wether the same thing but functional or a better piece of equipment) is a premeditated action, furthermore it is immoral on the grounds that you are intentionally scamming a company to take care of you while showing no scruples when it comes to your actions.

The defense i'm picking up so far is "what they don't know doesn't hurt me" which is, again, and immoral standpoint.

The issue is the customer didn't hold up their end of the bargain by the action of breaking the HD, why should BB hold up their end?

They shouldn't but they didn't know any better and they charge too much anyway so it's ok...

I don't get it...

Meeze makes this arguement alot better than i do so i'ma just sit back and watch unless i read something really puzzling.

meh i didn't lie my shit broke "naturaly" from natural wear n' tear which is covered under the BB warrenty. i never thought of what my friend doing as wrong maybe it was. i also said in the other thread that it was my opinion to think what he did was wrong much as it is your opinion to think that my friend was wrong.

either way i still have not done anything wrong against the POL rules (except going afk and not logging i guess thats against the rules) or the BB warrenty but i'm still entitled to how my opinion on others actions.

Now, as for someone saying you can build a better computer for half the price now, that is very hard to do these days. You obviously haven't checked the prices of individual pieces of hardware versus buying a complete machine. You can get an HP desktop with an Athlon X2 3800+, DVD burner (with light scribe), 1gb memory, keyboard, mouse, and 250gb SATA harddrive for about $690 after $50 mail in rebate. I would like to see you build a similar machine that comes anywhere near that price. The processor alone sells on newegg for $295, and I didn't even mention a motherboard in the list above.

Actually you said it all right there. The problem with prebuilt computer systems is that you get a couple of snazzy features to help you overlook everything else.

You get a 250gh SATA HD but what brand and what speed? You get 1gb Memory, again what brand and what speed? You can have both these things but their speed is important. They usually don't give you a top of the line product. You can get a TOL Item for more, yes, but you get it.

You also get On board Graphics and an On board sound card. Not always the best. They usually cut corners here to make up for the expenses. Even if they use a seperate graphics card, usually its a cheapo.

How do I know this? before I learned how to fix computers and do things myself I purchased a Sony Vaio "Gaming/Digital Studio" Machine. The first game I tried to play wouldn't work because the graphics card did not support 3d Imaging.

I pulled it out and looked on ebay just for the hell of it and guess what? it was a card that went for $8-$12, my motherboard /w onboard sound $50-75. 1.8Gh Processor about $150-200 at the time. DVD-Drive (not even a recorder) - $40-50. 2x256 RAM - Brand was $20 a stick. 80 gig HD apprx 7200rpm $40.

My PC was worth $328 to $417 (+$200 for windows) I payed about $1500 for it not including the monitor or printer. Not really worth it, especially since I practically had to upgrade the whole thing to make it compatible with most new games that had come out the same year the PC had come out.

Best Buy CS sucks all over. Not just in Canada. The Employees, for the most part (including management) Scatter like roaches when the light hits them any time a customer comes into view. Famous BB Phrase? Oh this isn't my department and run along.

Here is something to add to that, You don't need to have an incentive to do your job. (Not the person who originally posted this but someone else made a comment about incentive). You have a job to do, that is why you work there. If you don't want to do your job, find something else to do. Why are you going to give piss poor customer service and agrivate yourself because you feel your services are worth more?

If you truly are worth more, why not find a job that pays what you feel, that is if they feel you are worth it as well? When they ask you the question "What does customer service mean"? Are you going to say "Uh, well, Uhm I work at best buy so we just let the customers service themselves"? That could be why you still work where you do lol.

Sorry I am a Store Manager and poor customer service always Irks me.

Learn to fix it yourself. You'll be suprised how easy it is, and how much money you'll save not only in the future, but in also how good a computer you can actually have for alot less money.

Not to mention the headaches you'll save yourself. Look at it this way, if you break the thing, then you'll be no better off than you are now.

This is a good website

And if you feel the need to make the money back for all the time spent reading this crap, just remember there are ALOT of people out there willing to pay you for this crap.

They work off commision, they will do anything to make you happy and get your money and more money. Those guys are salesmen/woman, your dicking with there income otherwise so they will straight talk you into a lot lol.

I find CC kind of an annoying store personally though. I duno, maybe i sort of know how to deal with BB workers. Everyone has there choices ^^

then

lol CC sucks.

I work at Best Buy as a Customer Service Rep. It sounds like you had some bad Geek Squad guys working on your computer. That kinda sucks that they messed it up. I'm sorry to hear that. I think it kind of sad that most of the work there and they arent competent.

Somewhat unrelated, but still on the Best Buy topic...

About a year ago I was in the market for a new TV and I found one that I wanted for the price I was willing to pay at the local Best Buy. However, there was a problem, all they had left was the display model and they wouldn't sell it to me. So they checked and told me they could have the same model within about 4 days and then it would another 1-2 days after that before they could deliver it.

Well there are 3 Best Buys within 20 miles of where I live so I went to the next-closest store which was about 15 miles down the road and what do you know, they have one in stock and since it's within 30 miles, I get free delivery...Now this was on a Tuesday so I'm thinking I'll have my TV delivered no later than Thursday evening...WRONG!!!!

Instead of delivering the one they had in stock, from the store that I made the purchase from...I had to wait for the first store I shopped to get their replishment before they would deliver...So I ended up waiting 7 days for my TV, which is about what I would have waited had I just stuck with the first store...
