Let me tell you why you don't understand, Ill bet you $10 on paypal ur over the age of 35. amirite?Winklewil said:Well, I had decided that my previous post in this thread would be my last, as Bigboy and I were just going in circles. I'm sure he feels the same; we said all we could say, and were getting nowhere.
But, Jesus Christ ... It's not that I'm not glad that it isn't back-and-forth posts of the same two arguments anymore, but it has now really derailed into something far worse.
I weep for the future.
I can't restrain from responding to a couple of things:
Your thinking on this is so bloody Back-asswards, it makes me woozy. I understand that "God exists" is a given to your state of mind, but to someone with a little doubt on the subject, it would make a lot more sense to say that most religious people can't really give a "valid" reason for believing in God. That is to say, other than that they were told so all their life that he/she/it is there. You've literally stated things in the exact opposite way than they really are: you've shifted the burden of proof from the religious to prove that God exists, onto those that doubt to prove that he doesn't exist.
Any good debater can tell you that the burden of proof always lies with the person making the claim. It is never with those who doubt your claim to prove that it is NOT true.
The ones who don't really "care" one way or the other are more accurately described as agnostic. Atheism, by definition, is a firm disbelief in any supreme being.
Well, if the basis of your "hate" (your word, not mine) isn't religious, I really don't understand it. I've never heard a non-religious explanation for why homosexuality is 'wrong,' at least not one that holds up under any sort of scrutiny. Is it even possible to explain why something that doesn't hurt anyone else is morally wrong without some sort of religious dictation?
I mean, universal morality is understandable by all, on a basis of logical reasoning, because it is easy to find victims in immoral acts that everyone agrees on. Theft, murder, rape, deception, fraud ... these can all be said to be "immoral" without needing the "because God said so" explanation.
Things like "don't masturbate" or "don't be gay," on the other hand, have only ever been pointed to as immoral based on religious views. You can't explain those to someone who doesn't believe in your religion; thus, I've never really seen the conviction that they're wrong exist separately from it.
"Nasty" and "wrong"? Are you saying it's wrong because it's NASTY? I mean, I can't really claim a great love for onions, either, but I don't literally HATE people who eat them. I don't have to project my sickening dislike of doing something myself on to the people that do it. Why do you?
Thats just nasty.Bigboy said:That and it doesn't take a genius to figure out every man, reguardless of sexual orientation, can enjoy a god blow job. Everyone has a mouth.
You lose the bet that I didn't accept in the first place. I just turned 24 last month. Coherence and an attention span greater than ten seconds doesn't necessarily indicate someone approaching middle years. You make a lot of assumptions.Omniscientx said:Let me tell you why you don't understand, Ill bet you $10 on paypal ur over the age of 35. amirite?
Being gay is 100% wrong, Im a senior in high school, I've met about 2-3 gay people, think they were made fun of? Of course, I made fun of them. Seriously, get a girlfriend.
Btw, im not going to read all that, I dont spend 30 min writing/reading posts, Im not that into the internet u know.
Omniscientx said:if you're gay, you should be ashamed of yourself.
it has nothing to do with religion, can you please realize that?Strid said:Religional hypocrisy at its finest all, enjoy the clowns!
My question, to over-simplify it into a one-liner you will actually read, is:Omniscientx said:it has nothing to do with religion, can you please realize that?
Its MY opinion thats its wrong, I dont base how I live my live by the Bible.
And do you know what hypocrisy means? How was I being a hypocrite?
You got way deep into this, I said I hate fags. Meaning I hate people who are overly fruity and wear tight as clothes and just let everyone know they are the gayest thing on Earth. If you're gay, keep it to yourself, and nobody will bother you. Act normal, wear normal clothes, stop wearing pink Abercrombie shirts with jeans from the Womens isle. THAT is the basis of my thinking.Winklewil said:My question, to over-simplify it into a one-liner you will actually read, is:
If your "opinion" doesn't have a basis in religion, what IS it based on? You can't have an opinion with absolutely no thought or reason behind whatsoever ... at least, you can't come and ARGUE about it if it doesn't.

And for the last time, I am a Catholic but im not religiously obsessed. I go to Church on Easter and Christmas, and theres nothing wrong with masturbation as long as you're not watching gay secks and beating it. Every guy has masturbated before, I guess its morally wrong, but everyone does it.

This is precisely the point I was trying to make in my earlier posts, Hal. I thank you for putting it so concisely. I have ... trouble ... with minimizing the size of my posts. Not all points of view are created equal. Trying to equalize the "debate" between someone who says something like "Gay people are going to Hell" (or the more crude "I hate fags") and someone trying to defend themselves is, frankly, insulting.Halifirien said:As for the whole "You have to respect my opinion" vibe floating around some of these posts, I call bullshit on that. I respect an informed opinion, not some unexamined kneejerk reaction or blind acceptance of tradition.
