Can't say much concerning BK. During my short time there I got to know the reserve list. Kinda shitty for a shell on a point system, eh, but if you didn't like it you could leave, which is what I did.
It is pretty dick to just up and rob a shell of its members without warning, though.

That's true. But I thought I could bear with the unfair rules, patiently waiting for my turn to cast lots on treasure without any complaints; And droping my BK pearl the very second hands and body droped to my inventory, like pchan did. He was lucky enough to get nashira legs right before we split dammit. If we were constantly doing dual/tripple farming chips runs, then everyone would get their share of treasure eventually...

However, repeated failures made celvantes take the decision to not do split runs unless we were 18 in LS, at some point, even though we were 12+. Needless to say it seriously reduced our farming speed. Only like 4 people got a full homam in 15 months, and two on nashira. Those failures were due to unskilled BLMs ( AM2 happy) and RDMs ( cure bots, unable to sleep and debuff), and DDs refusing to sub ninja in 6 man meripo type pt.

Instead of fixing the problem and telling people individually that they suck and have to improve, celv's stratergy consists in minimizing risks and just do one farming run. He does that in salvage as well, which explains why they are so inefficient , and do runs with 12 people, that could be done with 4.

Holy moly I cant follow a lot of this but I find this thread extremely inviting to read. I blame you all for killing my break time =)...

Anyway this is some weird DKP system you all are having problems with. And I dont understand it since I am getting bits and pieces in between arguments.

So exactly how does this DKP work? What is the reserve list? Does this DKP system reward players who have been in longest over those who just joined up?

Ive seen so many guilds go Kaboom over modified DKP systems....and its not just FFXI.

Sometimes the old Lotto if you are there on time at the end system is best when I think about the DKP horrors I dealt with... 3 guilds I was in going kaboom over DKP.

Ugh I feel sorry for all parties... Friendships and history of fun just blown out of the water over "phat Lootz"... man... And I thought FFXI was immune to this issue in the past...I am totally ill informed obviously.

Wish you all well and hope that your gaming experiences turn to the positive.

Correct me if im wrong, but dont you already get a penalty for being late? A point deduction? The way i see it, if you wanna compare to real life, is that if i'm late for something, my boss wont pay me for the time im not there. He wont let me work and
just say he's gonna keep ALL my money. That's what you are doing when you dont let him spend points.

There is no perfect system. They will always be flawed in some way or another. But i prefer to have leaders i trust and simply let them decide. Doesnt work for everyone, and surely doesnt work in shells where you dont trust your leaders.

But personally i would stay away from a point-system best i can.

I'm not sure how their point system was put in place, but in my ls, we didn't get a point deduction for being late, we get a bonus for being early. You fail to even acknowledge what I am saying, this is in place to keep others from doing the same thing, ultimately destroying their gather time. It is NEEDED as a deterant(sp?).

And, leaving it up to the leaders to "simply let them decide" is a horrible idea, because no one is completely unbiased, and there is such thing as selective memory. Hypothetical: maybe it seems like MDK has attended 2x as often as Khajit, when in fact Khajit may have attended more. This could happen if Khajit has shown for most of the chip famring runs, but missed quite a few boss runs, whereas maybe MDK had only shown for a couple difficult areas and boss runs, but wasn't online most of the days where attendance was high (Bare in mind, this didn't actually happen, I'm just using there names as an example). You need a system of checks and balances in place to reduce human error, and favortism.

Im not sure im understanding you correctly, but i agree you need a deterant to make sure people come on time to runs. Be it a bonus for the ones that are on time or a penalty for those that are late. But if you tell them they cant lot when they are late, why should they come at all? People are to concerned with people beeing there for the actual drop run. What does it matter? You gotta look at the big picture. All that matters is if the person earned the piece. And in a point system, the guy who earned the piece is the guy with the most points. Because any way you slice it, he has done more runs then the others, alot more if he has been late alot and still stays ahead. In my shell we dont care if you are there for the run or not. If you are up for the next Hauteclaire you will get it, even if you miss 10 Khimas in a row. If you are up for next Novio, you get it, no matter how many JoL's you miss, because you look at the big picture.

It's a horrible idea for you maybe, and then you shouldnt join a shell that works that way. But it's the way its worked in Integral for atleast 6 years, and it's served us well. You wont find many Integral members who left the shell on their own accord. And those who did where most likely about to be kicked for not pulling their weight anyways. The last 2 i can remember who left the shell on their own accord left just after reciving Ridill and Adaman Hauberk back when that was the shit. The otherone left after getting Hauteclaire, bahamuts mask, byakkos haidate, n.head and a few other things. So beeing treated fairly was hardly the issue.

I personally would think a group of people with a common goal of obtaining Limbus boss gear would rather the piece go to the person that most earned it. The reserve list aside, points speaks volumes for effort and time put into the shell. I understand completely what caerloc is saying.

Ewok, what if Chinis showed up late to an omega run? We havent got a Homam Legs to drop in 8 months, 14ish Omegas, and you think its fair to not let him get the drop? He has 240 points in a limbus shell for gods sake. I am not sure how our LS would handle this issue, but I am assuming if he wasnt there at the time of bidding, he would miss out.

We all have a common goal and we shouldnt try to undermine others in the group. Honestly if somone that earned a piece shows up late... I would welcome them to come lot, because they earned it. But on the flipside, rules are rules, and if you have rules saying one should have to attend the run to get drops, then you need to attend the run.

Biggs, I don't think the Chinis example really holds weight because the attitude of our shell mates doesn't match the attitude of the members in this shell. I highly doubt a single person in NITR would object to Chinis getting the Homam drop, especially after we all decided that postponing Omega for Chinis after he was hacked was what we wanted to do as a team. Turns out they got his account back faster and it wasn't an issue. I highly doubt the members of this shell in question would have even considered what we did an option.

Personalities of shellmembers matter as much as skills and abilities of said members when it comes to how "good" a shell really is.

I think the biggest issue in BK was the reserve list from what I'm reading. Members who were on the list should have lost place over time. Just like if I had 100 points and stopped showing up. Eventually someone would pass my 100 points and then outlot me. From what I can tell, this reserve list did not take that into account. Had it done so, most of the drama happening over time probably would have been avoided. Perhaps though, I am simply misreading or reading too much into things.

As I recall, points superseded the reserve list when the people/person on the list didn't show up for a certain number of runs. Not exactly what your example is like, but it's similar...ish.

Well, then you are among the few that have joined shells with above average leaders, possible having photographic memories, lol. And I am looking at the big picture, if I wasn't, then I would probably agree that Khajit should've gotten the drop. Big picture is this: generally, when you let one person bend the rules, in this case showing up late, you are encouraging others to do the same. Keep in mind, if it was a matter of 10-15 minutes, I don't think it would've been an issue. 1 hour is horribly excessive though.

You both have good points, and tbh, idk if our current roster would let him lot. Idk if everyone is aware of what was involved with the drama between me and Jaqbeaur (sp?), or not, but it involved a very similar issue. I was put into a party, went afk prior to our departure time, and when I came back, I was booted from the party, and they had already grabbed someone else and teleported out. I was gone for a max time of 5 MINUTES. At that time, I was already noticing a tendancy of Jaq becoming a sort of time-nazi. Hell, I remember a few runs where we were already in sea, and people logged on, at or right before departure time, to be met with a "sorry"(that's right, we left 10+ minutes early). The reason why I never really discussed this was because Jaq was a leader in the ls, and I already had a distaste for Limbus. This was part of my reason for the summer break, the other being rl related. I went from being one of the first people in jeuno when we started, to being the one basically treated like I was holding the ls up. If Jaq was still here, I would almost bet money he would be one of the people saying no if someone showed up late to lot.

You do understad they're both the same thing, right?

Just wanted to set the record straight since it pertains to me.

I guess Ewok is correct, I am a "time-nazi." As one of the four leaders in our Limbus shell, whenever I could, I made sure we left Port Jeuno at our scheduled time. As many of you know, Limbus is not a complicated event. Every zone can be handled with 6 people or less. So, when we had 15 people that cared enough to be online and ready to go at our scheduled start time, there was no reason to make them wait on anyone that didn't care enough to be ready. It's not a personal thing. It's a respect thing. Maybe it's the fact that I'm the son of an army-brat. But I was always taught that you should respect other people's time - so I do. We had scheduled start times and that's when we started. If being prompt and considerate of other people's schedules makes me a time-nazi... guilty as charged.

I would never want to be the one to delay people from doing other events because I was late and I don't want anyone holding me up from other events because they're late. Many members had other events, like Dynamis, scheduled right after Limbus. They shouldn't have to be late to their other shells because someone is holding up their Limbus shell, especially when there are already enough people online to get the job done. I can't even begin to tell you how many /tells I received from people thanking me for getting us started on time. Why turn a 45-90 minute event into a 90-120 minute event?

Regarding the specific incident Ewok brought up about being kicked from a party due to being AFK, he's correct. He went AFK, we were scheduled to start, we had 17 other people ready to go that weren't AFK. So we started on time without him. I would have done it to anyone and I would have expected it to have been done to me. It's not an attack on anyone's character, it's just being courteous to the majority. I fail to see how this is drama. No one was mad, he wasn't berated, we didn't make a flame about it - we just started without him. Of course, I guess we could have waited on him instead. He might have shown up in 5 minutes, it might have been 20, he might not have come back at all. Of course, this would not only delay everyone more than it should on that Monday night, but it would also delay the Thursday run too since we now have to wait longer for the "soap" to be ready next time we gather. Or, had it mattered that much, he could have gone out to Sea before he went AFK so he'd have received the card when we killed the Flower. Or go solo/duo/low-man a card ahead of schedule.

And we did leave early on occasion. I remember two. Both times were Omega runs and both times we already had 18 people present. Anyone else that showed up after we were in Sea but before the start time, were welcomed to come on out and place bids for Homam drops. I guess they were the lucky ones. They didn't have to pay 15-30k for the soap and they didn't have to worry about fighting Omega. They got to relax for 30 minutes and potentially receive a "no-effort-required" Homam drop. I apologize to anyone that was offended by this course of action.

So in conclusion, I respect the time of other people and I made sure our events got started as scheduled. I am a time-nazi. If you wish to pursue this matter further, Ewok, you can PM me or start a new flame. Maybe call it, "Retired FFXI player flames former Limbus sack holder for 9 month old non-issue." Or perhaps we can put this "drama" behind us.

Well, the incident we both are speaking of I arrived back at the departure time (barring 1 minute at most). If I was away for an actual lengthy amount of time, I would completely agree with you. However, this was not the case. Matter fact, please state any incident where I was late enough to justify this action (and you did bitch at me, just like you deliberately egged me on the day you booted me from the shell). And if you recall, I did try to discuss this, along with another issue I had with you. You couldn't even be bothered to read my PM (I can get long-winded, but that is no excuse). Another question, when you started cracking down on time, was it around the time you started doing Sea right after? Just curious, I want to make sure no one questions this selfless attitude you supposedly were displaying at the time. (When I did back to back endgame events, I always gave myself a window for error, because no shell is 100% on time).

The reason why I brought this up was more to put in perspective to those who thought it was ok for someone to show 1 hour late and still get to lot on an item. To the OP, I apologize for this derail, basically of a derail, lol. I understand if the mods wish to delete these posts.

Just so we're clear. You're issue with me is that I started on time. My bad. I hope you realize that is what you're saying.

I never bitched at you. When you came back and pitched a fit that we started without you I told you to stop complaining as did the other leaders present. I never booted you from the shell, I never booted anyone from the shell. I never joined a Sea shell or any other end game shell until after my time with NITR. It actually was a "selfless" attitude on my part. I really was considerate of the other members.

Is this really flame worthy? You really wanna keep this going over such a trivial matter? You don't even play the game anymore. I'm not doing Limbus anymore. This "drama" happened summer of 2008.

As I said before, if it's scarred you so deeply, why not start a new flame or send a PM? I've said all I need to on this matter. I'm done responding to this thread. Good luck IRL, Ewok. Hope everything works out for you.

Hmm, in case you scimmed over what I wrote, I DID PM you. You decided it wasn't worth your time to hear the issues I had with you. And you booted me when you became unresponsive, simply repeating "Monday, Proto-Omega" over and over again (sorry if I was unclear about this, I know I was never booted for the original incident), and I allowed myself to be affected (was more of a self-boot, since I met your close-mindedness with a goad into you breaking my pearl). As far as starting on time, my issue isn't with this, hell I liked everyone cracking down on this at first, since I had work shortly after Limbus. My issue is with the rigidness of it, i.e. 7:01, too bad, you're shit out of luck, find your own tele. And as far as sea, I thought I ran across pics of you running with a sea shell that ran right after our Limbus shell, but if not, that I am sorry, and retract the statement. As far as keeping it going, I like to argue, and I kept this on the backburner for far too long. I don't like stirring things up within an ls, especially with the leaders, because it can create problems for the ls as a whole. I had an issue with the opinion some members of theflock had about me, blew up within the ls, and even posted about it afterwards. They broke not long after I left. Not saying I had anything to do with that, hell I never thought I had any impact on the ls at all. But I don't like the idea of knowing it is a possibility. And thank you for the kind send off, I was cool with you when you first joined, I just didn't like your style of leadership (this was a game, not the military).

Again, sorry for derailing. If we continue this debate, I'm hoping the mods can split the thread.

WOW....I know i haven't been on much lately. (FYI I was a member of this ls, but took a break) It really sucks that the linkshell broke. I never had a problem with anyone in the shell, and actually enjoyed doing limbus. Although I did feel slightly annoyed when Greg had gotten nashira pieces before me, and I had more points (because of the reserved list) but I understood why it was there and eventually got the pieces myself too. Now I haven't been to limbus since December, and I'm sure alot had happened between then and now, but overall we had good times right? :3 I hope that when I do come back to the game, there won't be as much drama :(

I'm with Vera on this too, I had a good run with BK, and I'm grateful to have had the ls members help eachother obtain gear, myself included. BTW, the reason I took a break besides the fact that I needed one, was that my account was hacked, and I lost quite a bit of items..and my drive to play the game. But I still love the game and would like to come back soon! I hope everyone is doing alright :) I'm not sure when I'll come back to the game, but probably in the April update and would probably join Arez's group if they had space, and if the members would be ok with me joining.

Quieren basically bailed on the shell.

Um, I quit the game, didn't bail. If anything, I kept paying for a account to only do the 2 runs a week, then I would log off. If I remember right, I got spammed to death about how fail of a leader you were. I honestly try to forget most of my FF life, but I do remember that all you were capable of doing was stir'ing shit with your girlfriend, and talk about how awsome you thought you were. You were the friend that people wanted to know how the hell I could even want to talk to. Guess I was able to over look things as I'm laid back, and tanked beside you in a ls.

Long story short, I came back, helped Celv get the wheels rolling again for a few runs, then happily retired from FF.

Its so flatering to be thought of after not playing this game for going on 2 years now I think lol.. I'm surprised BK was even still active till reading this over coffee at work today. True testiment to Celv as a leader for this ls still being active 2 years later. Sorry its ending now, but proud to see it bloomed and lived as long as it did. The shell was started out of me and halif's social shell, a group of friends, and when it turned business, went downhill apparently. Saw some names I kinda remember so /wave and hope all is well.

Its a game folks, make a few friends to hang with, and don't take this shit so serious. How in the hell you people are still doing the same shit going on 2 yrs from when I quit is amazing in its own rights. Please don't tell me you all still fight the japaneese over HNM's in 3 hour windows, some that only spawn 1 time a week lol..

Sorry to hear about it. I loved running with BigKahunas back in the old days, although to be honest I was so far out of touch that I thought the linkshell dissolved a long time ago. I had dinner with Quieren last weekend and couldn't tell him how it was going since he moved over to WoW.

Touch my gen. tsu's chicken first and you get a plate full of death!!!
