I figured I'd go on with the "so and so is a piece of shit" meme that we use on this forum and have to bring up the whole letterman thing. I was watching his come out to the audience and it kinda bugs me that he's making a mockery of it. "I have sex with women who work for me." Man what a fucking douche.

Am I the only one who thinks he's a complete asshat? I love how the guy who tries to get 2 mil out of him is the real bad guy. Not saying extortion is the right way to go about it, but Letterman just keeps getting sleazier and sleazier.

So someone tries to blackmail David Letterman. 2 Million or else he'll go tell the world how David Letterman had sex with some of his employees.

Letterman comes back and says yes, he did have sex with them. People laugh, Letterman saves 2 million. What can the blackmailer do now ?

After this maybe there will be some complications for Letterman and his family, and maybe not. They might be an open bunch.

I don't watch his show but I don't see any reason to get all pissed off about what he's done.

Under all circumstances, whoever Letterman is screwing will never truly matter to us, unless it effects our own reality.

Was the sex not consensual? Was it after he got married? There are a ton of unknowns here. I think it shows some class that he just came all the way out with it instead of trying to cover it up. I don't think he made a mockery out of it at all. He was trying to just take it on the chin.

I agree with Excim here. I'm not the biggest Letterman fan since I prefer Jay Leno and Conan, but it takes some balls to go up front and say that knowing damn well you are really only doing it because you are being blackmailed. Its fucked up nonetheless, but at least he had the last laugh as well agains the blackmailer.

That publicist guys makes me think of how Draco Mafloy would look when he grows up?

Letterman be pimpin'

I hate how people can call him courageous for coming out and admitting it. It's almost as stupid as people who praise these drug addicts who got clean. I was watching the full version of the Letterman confession on yahoo and for some reason it just struck a nerve. I just don't understand how people could praise him for coming out and saying this only after he was being extorted.

Though if his wife comes out and says "Fuck it, I sleep around with people too, it's what we do" then it's different. But somehow I doubt that. ;x

No doubt its fucked up, but according to this, his sleeping around happened before he was married, not after. Not praising what he did, but I still agree that it takes some balls to come out and admit something like that. But hey you never know, him and his woman maybe the swinger type o_O

If it was before he was married why does it matter? Doesn't everyone sleep around before they get married?

Exactly! So why make a big deal about?! The guy thought he could make a quick buck threatening to tarnish Letterman's reputation (since it is generally looked down upon if you sleep with your employees) and maybe cause some hell by generating doubt in Letterman's wife. Hell, sometimes its more of a hassle to come clean than to keep it hidden.

What Hexx said, I think he was just trying to make a scandal and hurt his image.

And why the hell wouldn't you praise a drug addicted person for kicking the habit? That's some cold slag, Miros...

thats exactly what i was thinking when i read that, its like saying we should just be happy with them being a druggie and leave it at that, instead of praising them for giving it up and doing better things with their life, thats a bad analogy.

What a joke....

This might as well be Azrael trying to blackmail Gargamel for $2 Million dollars or else he'll tell the Smurf's he been up to no good.

Everyone knows David Letteman is a far left loon. The people who affiliate with him are the same that affiliate with that pedophile Roman Polanski. His inner circle has zero morals and as we speak are probably patting him on the back for nailing the interns ala Bill Clinton style.

I just can't wait till the slutty staffers start sueing him for sexual harassment because he was in a position of power. How stupid is the guy who tried to blackmail him? Kind of hard to black mail someone with no sense of decency.

Does everything in this world have some sort of political affiliation behind it for you? What difference does it make what side of the political spectrum he's on, when GOP members cant seem to keep their dicks in their pants? Stick to the subject at hand in regards to whether or not you think Letterman is a douche for having done this.

I mean hell, at least Miros hates the guy cuz he found the actions themselves wrong

I'm a Republican, and I think this is by far the dumbest comment I have ever seen. I mean, how many baseless assumptions can you have in one post? Clearly, this must be sarcasm. Clearly.

Well since it's before he was married then I don't even know why the guy was trying to extort him. This kinda puts the situation in a whole new light. I was under the impression that it was while he was married. So I take back most of what I said.

And why the hell wouldn't you praise a drug addicted person for kicking the habit? That's some cold slag, Miros...

So you're telling me that I should praise a person who was stupid enough to get addicted to an illegal substance and then watch as schools pay good money to bring former "addicts" in to tell their story? Honestly...why would I care? If someone were to kick smoking then I'd be happy for them. But since those are legal I'd consider it a completely different thing.

I'm not happy with someone being a druggie either. But I ask again, if they were stupid enough to start it why should I be happy they quit something illegal? When's the last time we saw a normal law biding citizen get praised for paying taxes even though we all know that the IRS rapes people? If someone does find an article I'll shit bricks.

People deserve praise for doing anything to better themselves. Sure, you may not feel indebted to acknowledge their accomplishment, but those are the beans. To put it into a scenario more personal to you, let's talk about a Gay person "coming out of the closet". While it may not be met with great respect from the persons family doesn't the Gay community praise them? Isn't it a big deal to "come out of the closet"? I don't see a need for them to be praised for stating a truth they have been hiding out of cowardice. It's no different than a child hiding the fact he got into trouble at school that day from his parents. However, I understand the concept of why it is a big deal and though I don't agree it should be a huge deal I wouldn't say I'm not happy for the person either. I wouldn't dare not acknowledge them finally letting it out and on the same hand it takes a lot of courage to face your "demons".

An activity being legal, illegal, un-natural, immoral, etc. doesn't matter. Taking responsibility and doing something about your problems gets you a step closer to being one better person in the world. We can't get enough of those in my opinion. That's also not to say that people who fall under the flag of indecency are all bad people, however, their negative habits, be the people good or bad, will have some sort of negative impact. A prime example would be a good man with a Cocaine habit. He may be a good fella but he just put some of his money in a drug pit. Who knows what his money might lead to in the future and he's supporting a drug dealer on top of that.

It does when douchebags like David Letterman wear their politcal affliation on their sleeve as if being some liberal nut job is something to be proud of. (Maybe in San Francisco it is).
I wouldn't give Conan or Leno any flack because they at least don't have a political agenda when they host unlike this gap tooth troll. He would be tearing any conservative to pieces on his stupid show if this happened to them.

Speaking of baseless assumptions, I'm no Republican either. I only vote for them because they are the lessor of two evils and no third party canidate is going to win a major election.

I'm honestly having trouble connecting someone coming out of the closet and someone quitting say...heroin. I know you think that it doesn't matter if the illegal, un-natural or immoral but it sort of does to me. If the person took responsibility to begin with then they wouldn't have had such a horrible experience in life right? It's all the same usually. Grew up in a rough neighborhood, got mixed up in the wrong people, sold my parents valuables BUT YAY I'M BETTER AND EVERYONE'S GOING TO FORGIVE ME FOR A LIFE OF STEALING, MUGGING AND MAKING A MOCKERY OF MY FAMILY! :D!!!!!! I'm a good person really! But when I get heroin in me I do crazy things! Yeah...shit like that doesn't fly with me.

Now if you want to try to compare something I'd say compare it to someone who quit smoking cigarettes, losing lots of weight or stopped being a chronic masturbaitor! If Welk quit smoking I'd definitely praise him. It's just the people who start hiding behind the "influenced self" and make it seem like it's okay that they can steal other people's belongings or rob people because they were under a different influence. Then if you say anything bad about said person some people will just flip out on you because they're a changed person! Ugh.

Speaking of baseless assumptions, I'm no Republican either.

I didn't assume you were a republican, I merely stated that I am. And to say that I am one, means that I lean more towards their policies, and not so much their ideologies.

You do realize by your logic of, "If the person took responsibility to begin with then they wouldn't have had such a horrible experience in life right?", applies to anything? If Welk had taken responsibility to begin with he wouldn't have been a smoker in the first place, right?

I see what you're getting at though but I think you're doing it wrong. Not everyone who is addicted to drugs steal or commit other crimes aside from taking part in an illegal substance. Likewise, some people who are addicted to tobacco steal and do the other things you mentioned as well.

I think you have to look at every person on a case by case basis. What is true for some is not true for all. I feel it also necessary to say that forgiveness should not, and probably isn't to begin with, be instant in these situations. It's like lying to your parents as a kid and having to work back their trust in you. However, it's a joyous occasion that they decided to walk down the path of working for that forgiveness rather than continuing to further dig their hole.

I think what you're missing is their is another side to this as well. Let us say that an addict has a brother who has always done the right thing. I'm fairly certain the brother is already in high regards to his family, they are already proud of him and his decisions in life. He needs not the sentiment of a "Re-birth" and that in itself is a good thing.

I get you though. Why isn't society more willing to praise those of us who have done right? To be honest, I think our acknowledgment of pride is already implied to us from others. We all have people who are proud of us for various things be that getting clean, staying clean, never been a druggy, doing well in school, work, etc. People really shouldn't get caught up in the whole "My family/society is proud of me for 6 things and only proud of you for 2 things" aspect of it all. That in itself is a sick problem.

It's all opinion based really though. You may not feel the need to give others praise where someone else might. That's all a part of what makes us all different. I recently encountered an example where my Sister was seeking praise for finally deciding to go to school. When she signed up my Dad was proud of her decision to move forward. I on the other hand didn't care, anyone can sign up for school, but can you actually do the work and succeed? I'm more stern than my Father, he's your overnice type. When my Sister does well I will praise her, but until then I'm glad she is choosing to do it but I'm not going to satisfy her with my praise until she actually makes the grade. It was the same when she kicked her drug addictions.
