Derail from the SE's Good/Bad thread

:shok: ajs pretty much said it "you need do more research." On side not never knew about the ks30 droping the items. As for people without brownbelt being gimp, It more like brown make you above avarage intstead of mediocore. While A mnk should strive to get one. I whould not call them gimp for not having one at 40.
I could accept a monk not having it at 40, especially if they hit 40 in the party; so I'm willing to give a little leeway for them to farm/quest one. My problem is, that I've seen 3 monks in the mid-50's without brown belts, and that's just inexcusable. They've had more than enough time to farm/quest it and chose to level instead. Also, they all had frickin' horrible gear, like the level 32 impact knuckles at 53 or shinobi gear.

Well if they have good gear without a brown belt and an ok substitute, it wouldnt matter to me honestly. Crap happens

I'm a BLM and I didn't know what gear i should have at my current level (just started playing when xbox got the game Jan '06) which was 60 at the time. I posted a thread and got great feedback as to what items were the best for me now and in the future. When i realized how much i was missing out on (being a blm I pride myself on inflicting the most dmg possible) I immediately quit leveling and started farming.

It took me about 2 weeks to make over 1 mil but i guarandamntee you that it was well worth the effort. My dmg went up over 20-30 pts per spell, and enfeebling is childs play now. Granted, that 1 million only got me NQ items (to get HQ it would have been 10 million) but nonetheless well worth the effort.

Spend the time it takes to farm items and you'll be rewarded with better performance and a much better pt experience. If you don't know what to farm, take up a craft and farm materials and sell results. A lot of my money comes from just plain old drops that i synth into needed items. If a guy does things right you can make a bare minimum of 50k in 1-1.5hrs. Don't shrug the 1k items either, send them to a mule, it adds up in the end.

My 2 cents worth...

Maybe I am late. Anyway.

First and foremost, I don't care who you are or what job you play a good balanced pt will pull in more exp/hour on average than any solo/duoing job during most level ranges, although not all. Alot of times such a pt doesn't exist so yeah you may be making more exp at times. Yet, if I were playing a normal fairly in demand pt job I would have been 75 long ago, no doubt, and I don't die often for a BST when I am exping. In ToAU you are pulling on average a 5-6k hour if you have good rhythm, with ring and a ridiculously good camp you can hit 8k an hour in ToAU. At those level ranges (67-70 and 62-64) I would hope a good pt would be doing that easily and doing better than that in most cases.

Regarding skill. Soloing your exp and soloing NMs marathon style teach you alot alot alot about your job most definitely, but it does not uniquely influence your skill w/n a party, it can but what better helps your skill in a party is a balance of solo experience and party experience, because knowledge you have from soloing adds some aspects of your job you may miss from only partying. I'm not saying jobs that suck at soloing lack skill, because what you learn from soloing with it...is that it sucks and is dependent on a lot of things.

Regarding gear. You should pressure yourself to become well equipped before others if you actually enjoy the job you play.

Soloing in general is done because it is empowering, you get to skip all the bullshit involved with lame asses in parties and really really enjoy yourself in the process, its a preference - not a fact.

I'm just saying until you are the king of all gears then shut the fuck up about other peoples set-up.
This is beyond stupid, so only the handful of people with every piece of monk gear on the server can comment on another monk's gear? I'm commenting on gear for the jobs that I'm practically an expert on, and I'm only caring about places where blatantly stupid calls have been made. You don't have to be the greatest monk on the server to know what is and isn't a good gear choice, and only an idiot would have that expectation.

Also, try following your own advice and learn to shut the fuck up about endgame matters you know nothing about.

Yea its a preference. I just weigh solo/duo more than pts because drgs hardly get invites as it is. The time in waiting for pt i can solo atleast 10k exp without dying once. The ocassional D/c is the only thing hindering my ability to level. You can say parties are better, or soloing is better, but my personal preference is duoing and soloing for the exact reason Mattaru listed. I like skipping bullshit drama because then I dont get mad and frustrated. I believe that if i spent all the time seeking for party, i would have never gotten lv65 by now, let alone lv 63.

ADD: I personally believe that If you're lv75 and think you're an expert, you should constructively criticize or you lose all credibility as a role model and noone will listen to you. Its not the point you're trying to get accross, its the way you present it.
Personally though I like GA weilding WARs better than axe/sword wannabes that dominate the game. Mainly it comes from Steel Cyclone being the baddest WS in the game.
Axe/Sword wannabes? I'll give you a hint, there's a reason that those "wannabes" are the ones doing 2 minute Kirins and chain 100+ EXP PTs. :)

About end game matters lol. SO what is different about end game than everything else in this game. I've seen all the dynamis zones up to Xarcabard, even played in a few. Ran around sky for awhile, watched some NMs get beat down, didn't see anything new to the game there. Did a few pop HNMs, didn't really notice new programing there either.. So, please tell me, what is so special about end game besides needing to be higher level to do it?

I agree with that, 90% of what people hear is how you say something, only 10% is what you say. Even if you're not 75, try not to be condescending towards the people you're trying to help, but there are plently of people who make that difficult. When I partied with those monks, I told them about the brown belt and recommended that they get it; the ones who had never heard about it said they would try to get one. I'm being more callous now, because I'm not trying to help someone with gear choices, I'm arguing outside of that context.

Ever fought a wyrm?

Gods, pop NMs, most dynamis's are childs play.

Also lol@black belt being easy to get.

Again lol@axe/sword wannabes. Properly geared and meritted axe/ridill war will out damage every single job in the game (not including kraken drks every 2 hours and blms spamming every single spell they have, these aren't feasible to do) by a decent amount. Steel Cyclone does tons of damage? Welcome to '04 when drk/thfs are the top DDs cause omgleet SA+Spinning Slash. Oh wai- DPS? Ohshitson.

not quite sure how this should be taken(sarcasm?), but if you're too lazy to work for good gear to do your job to the best of your ability, then you'll probably be too lazy to do what's needed to perform the lesser duties expected of you in a pt.

another 2 cents(maybe gil)

Catch me in game and ill give ya 2 gil lol. U pted with my blu a few times if u can remember back to your 40s. remember gustav?

Wow, just wow... Acting like Black Belt can be farmed? Somebody needs an education in what "drop rate" means.

5% from the NQ HNMs, 5% chance of claiming the HQ HNM so that's not any better unless your entire LS is botting. 10% (generous) chance of dropping from the KS99. Maybe a solid week of farming for 99 KS, at least, without completely destroying your attendance in all other end-game events. So, let's say it probably takes 10 stacks of KS for one item, 30 weeks until you've got a reasonable chance of obtaining black belt. 30 weeks with no leveling or doing anything besides farming KS, going to required end-game events, and having a real life. And that is assuming that nobody in the group of 18 fucks up during any of those 30 fights, which is nearly impossible, so add another 5-10 on for various stupid things or the wyrm deciding he doesn't want to die. We're up to the better part of a YEAR farming black belt, without doing any leveling.

On the other hand, we have Brown Belt. At level 55, I stopped leveling MNK for about 2 months. Farmed up about 4 mil, bought O-kote, Spartan Cesti, and a second Sniper. Spend one WEEK, understand, WEEK, singular, out of that camping Nue/Dodo/Morbolger, 1/6 1/1/ 1/1 on drops.

Personally, I won't expect Brown Belt before 55, because I try not to be a total hypocrite, but it really should be required at 50, I know a decently geared MNK could solo them at that level, Morbolger as /NIN or /THF with gear.

Again, as a refresher.

Black Belt : Better part of a year, nothing else accomplished during farming.

Brown Belt : A week, maybe 2 weeks if drops don't like you.

...and with that I just made myself late to class, looking forward to a hopelessly ignorant response soon.

Those are end-game though right?

Not going to be as easy as Brown Belt, but I know it's not as hard as what everyone is making it out to be.

Spinning Slash is ok, Steel Cyclone just is though. Love that WS. I know DPS is good, I don't play this game for numbers though, I play it for fun.

*inserts blatantly ignorant reply* Ive seen more respect on this thread than horrible shaunessy posts. His message was clear at first, then he turned all "You suck kuz u expect everything from everyone" filling his text with bull.

I understand now that brown belt is easier to get than I thought, and I was ignorant (not to be confused with stupid) to say mnk shouldnt be required to get it at a certain point. Once they CAN quest the belt is when they should try to get it. But as a drg, i dont go through this. SH is probably an item i wont ever see as drg because im dirt cheap and poor as all getout, and I cant seem to grasp what to farm and camp to be able to get it.

And yet, black belts are still very rare among the monk population; apparently it's not as easy to get as you think.

That's understandable, and I don't really fault a drg for not having a scorpion harness, as long as you at least have something on your body slot that helps your damage(I'll take a Brig, even); and there are several cheap options available, which you have said you've used. Brown belt was my exception though, because it's a quest, and because how good it is compared to anything else even at 75. Other than that for mnk's, as long as you're not wearing something completely useless(shinobi/mithril gear) when there's a reasonably priced, useful alternative; then I don't really care about others' gear.
