DS Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies ~ NA Summer 2010

Surprisingly, DQIX actually went up two places this week in the UK charts. It went from #9 to #7. Awesome =D

It's needs to be number one. Loads of things to do, I've done like 5 side quests but I saw one was numbered 100 and something so yeh... Lots to do.

DQIX is probably gonna slowly crawl it's way up there. Starcraft II just came out, Toy Story 3 was out last week so it's going to hang on there, Red Dead Redemption is still on the charts as well as Lego Harry Potter, though unfortunately, so is Ubisoft's shit games Just Dance and Dance on Broadway (They should be ashamed of themselves for making such crap).

I got about 14 hours into the game and decided to start over from scratch. I've been playing a lot over the past few days and just finished up in Bloomingdale. I also cleared the first Treasure Map; the boss nearly wiped me, but my Priest kept spamming that Benediction-style coup de grace and kept me going. I can easily see why people would invest 100+ hours in this game after the main storyline is finished.

I just gotta say, wow. This game is a piece of art. I can't believe how massive it is. I think I really jumped for joy when I was outside the Stornway Castle area grinding off the new mobs I find.

This is my second DQ, my first the installment before on PS2 and I hope X is on PS3 with the return of voice acting.

Currently heading to kill the Wight Weight? Just left Stornway. Level 10.

You may be a little out of luck on that one :(

I'm almost to the end of the main storyline and looking forward to jumping into the endgame activities. I beat the treasure map I got from the guy outside of Zere Rocks, but the boss in the Lv. 14 Iron Map of Glee I won from that has been giving me a few problems.

I'm near the end boss, then onto the post-game.

I recently unlocked Sage, then grinded to 50 on all my vocations inside a nice grotto I got from somebody at last weekend's Best Buy event.

It has Metal King Slimes all on floor 11.
50 is a bit overkill for the final boss, but eh.

And yes Cua, DQX is coming for the Wii, but that's all we know about it right now.
It could have voice acting, it may not.

Wii is still more powerful than a PS2, so I expect something great.
Of course it's DQ, I always expect something great, look at DQIX on the DS.

On the Wii? No objections from me. That should be awesome. Level 16 now and just got defeated the witch in the underground deserted castle north of Zere, forgot the name. Was wondering when I'm going to pick up new characters as I push on to 20.

I'm in the endgame content, working my way through Treasure Maps and trying to get better ones.

I finally figured out what was so awesome about Slime Hill. I'd only spotted little Metal Slimes before, but was thrilled today when I encountered a group with three Liquid Metal Slimes and three Metal Medleys. Holy crap! One fight worth 35k-40k for each character. /drool

Okay so I finally just unlocked the ability to chance vocations and have Warrior, Priest, Thief, Mage and Minestral to choose from. I want a war and a mage but I do not want to have to go level up again alone until I get another character. When the hell is thatÉ Ièm almost at level 30.

Until you get another character? Am I lost or you don't know that you can make 3 characters?

You make your characters in this game, when you get to Stornway for the first time you talk to Patty and can call up some default ones or recruit your own team, she even says to come back to the Inn after you situated yourself around town.

And while talking with the King when he asks you to go fight the Wight Knight, he even mentions to come back when you have a party.

So you could have had a party since before the Wight Knight.

WTF!?!?! I've been using my main guy this whole time thinking I'm going to pick up my mentor later and those two girls in the opening cutscene. Wow. Do you know how many times I wiped to that wale that everyone thought was Llveiathan soloing it? I was so pissed. Wow. This is what I get for not paying attention.

Ok, I've gotten to the part where:

Spoiler:
All the fyggs were stolen from me and I need to get the Wyrmwood Bow

Any good levelling spots I can use? I think my characters are severely under levelled. My main is level 21 and my highest is my Priest at 27.

The next story dungeon you go to, The Bowhole (B3) has Liquid Metal Slimes you can fight, use Hatchet Man/Thunder Thrust.

There's a spot near the stairs down to B4 you can just sit and mobs will keep spawning, wait until an LMS spawns and fight it.
Not sure on specifics but I'm sure you can find it somewhere online.

I need some help regarding some the quests.

I'm getting frustrated. A quest requires me to do something to a monster and then defeat it in a certain fashion. I do everything the quest says and then it still doesn't go through as a completion.

For example, the quest to unlock that magic class (forgot it's name, it's long and it looks like a RDM?) is to cast Wizard Ward and then defeat two mettle slimes. I cast wizard ward and defeat the damn slime, nothing. I even do it in the same string of turns with my party, still no completion. Am I missing something? I'm following what seems to be right from what I read online.

Have everyone learn Wizard Ward from the Mage skill tree and Metal Slash from the Sword skill tree, use WW first round and spam Metal Slash second.
The person who cast it has to get the killshot, if all cast it then voila.

Also, it has to be Metal Slimes, not Metal Medleys or any other variety, best place would be the Quarantomb.

I understand now. I didn't know the finishing blow had to come from a person who has casted wizard ward. How does a class have WW and a sword at the same time? Mages can't equip swords and melee can't use WW.

Skills carry between vocations, you learn Wizard Ward (and other various things from various job skill trees) and you can use it on a sword wielding class.
Or master sword, get Omnivocational Swordmaster and can equip swords on any class.
First way would be easier.

Spells are the only thing that don't carry over, you get those via levels, not skillpoints.
