I seem to have lost my Mojo.
Does anyone have any information on Merrits? How they work? How to start them? What are my options? What can I upgrade, how, and what not? I looked everywhere for a comprehensive breakdown of the system and failed. Some people say I should talk to the moogle next to Maat, but all he says is to come back later when I am ready...

Links are fine... I am just kinda lost.

lvl 75, talk to maat, switched you to merrit mode.

Actually, you talk to the moogle next to maat.

Upon reaching 75, talk to the Nomad Moogle next to Maat to obtain the Key Item "Limit Breaker," look at your Status Menu to see a new option regarding Merits. Return to Mog House and open that menu to set which kind of EXP you want. Experience Points, or Limit Points. 10k Limit points gets a merit point, the value never increases. Save merit points and spend. You can only earn limit points on a job that is 75. If you delevel while in limit mode, you gain regular exp until you relevel. If you're on experience mode, it automatically switches over to limit upon capping out 75. I prefer regular Experience mode, as if you die when you've capped out, it switches back to Experience mode until you recap. It's just over all less of a headache.

Non-job specific merits affect all jobs, and start being appearant as early as level 10 on other jobs(Combat/Magic Skills/HP/MP)

You can upgrade
HP/MP for a combo of 6 times
Combat and Defense skills for a max of 6 for one skill, combo of 9 increases total.
Magic skills
Other things(Enmity changes, Critical Hits, Interruption rates), max of 3, combo of 6.
And job specific things, such as ability recast reductions, spell potency, trait activation, for any combination of 5 increases. You must have the job you want to spend merits on at 75 to be able to for their category.

Is there anythign online I can look at and figure out what I can buy with merrits and thier cost etc?

I know I can Buy Critical Hit %, Stats, Recast Timers Down, Triple Attack Proc Rate, Evasion, hp/mp, etc...

But i was told they are in different catigories etc. I would like a full comprehensive breakdown of all the Merrit info if anyone has it. I/E. an expal, inantion on the different fields, and what i can buy in them, Maximum purchases, like can I add 10 to all my stats? I don't think I can. Can I get 10 Evasion and 10 Dagger Skill? Can I buy Accuracy? Attack? Resistance against Jellyfish?

You cannot buy accuracy or attack, directly, but those two stats will raise if you increase your dagger combat skill. Attributes(STR/DEX/etc) can only be raised for a combo 3 times. Every time you increase HP/MP, you gain +10 respectively, Every time you raise a combat/defense stat, you gain +2 respectively. +2 Magic Skill for each time.

Tanks and Melees get ripped off in Merits since Combat and Defense is one category, where as Magic is in it's own seperate, so no, you can't raise Dagger and Evasion as high as possible, you'll be able to increase dagger 6 times(+12 Skill, the most you can for one combat skilll) and Evasion 3 times(+6) or viceversa.

You'll understand more when you look at the categories in the menu and the description of each item. I can't find the POL lisiting of Merit categories :(

First thing you do is spell Merit correctly  and then go from there :) j.k with ya phraust

As a Thief...

the Main things I was interested in was:

1) Upping my Triple attack rate.
2) Upping Evasion Skill.
3) Upping Critical Attack Rate.
4) Lowering Trick attack Recast time.
5) Upping Dagger Skill.

That is my List, listed in importance to me.
What are the Max amount of skills point IN THAT ORDER, that I can Get?

1) 5%? Triple attack?
2) 12 Evasion Skill?
3) 5%? Critical hit rate?
4) -10 seconds?
5) 6 Dagger Skill?

One thing skaw didn't mention is that with each upgrade, the cost in terms of the amount of merits increases. So if you want to upgrade your HP, the first time it would cost 1 merit, the next 2, the next time 3, and so on. I think there's a limit to the cost for a single upgrade, but I don't remember what the limits are. Mystery Tour has a decent explaination, just go to tips >> merit points.

As for critical hits and recast timers, there are multiple categories that skaw mentioned.

HP/MP(+10 HP/MP per upgrade)
Stats(STR, DEX, etc... +1 per upgrade)
Combat Skills(weapon proficiency, evasion, etc... +2 per upgrade)
Magic Skills(like combat skills, only magic, +2 per upgrade)
Other(your crit rate, enemy's crit rate, plus or minus enmity and something else that I forget at the moment)
Job Specific merits(recast timers and enhanced effects)

Every category other than Job Specifc is available on all jobs at all times. Again, like skaw said, you can only put merits into a job if you have that job at 75 and it's your current main job. Also, those upgrades will only be working when it's your main job, so if you lower your SATA delays, they would only be lowered when you're thf/whatever, it doesn't work if you're /thf. You will also only gain the benefits of the merits if that job is 75, so they do NOT work in level capped areas or if you delevel to 74. I have 2 merits into regen, so my regen spells return 2 more HP per tick, but I found through personal experience that the merits did not work when my whm wasn't 75.

For combat skills, if you raise dagger, you'd increase your maximum dagger cap by 2 points for each upgrade. That'd give you a little better accuracy and damage with each upgrade, so maxing them out you would likely notice. The cool thing about meriting these is that if you put a couple merits into them, you will actually learn weaponskills a level or two earlier than you normally would be able.

Trick attack rate and trick attack recast timers are both THF specific, so you can raise either of them combined 5 times. You'd have to pick how many you want to put into each, but you get 5 upgrades to divide among them.

Critical hit rate is in the other category, so that's fine.

Evasion and Dagger skill are both in combat skills, so you'd have to split the total number of upgrades for those as well. Although, skaw said you could only upgrade them a limited number of times, so that might not matter.

Soooo...

1) 5% Tripple attack (15 Merits)
2) 12 Evasion Skill (15 Merits)
3) 5%??? Critical Hit Rate? (??? Merits)
4) 6 Dagger Skill (6 Merits)
5) 4 Agi (27 Merits)

Does this look right?
Is there other neat stuff I am over looking? (Aside form HP/MP)

Anyone know if +Steal, +Mug, +Treasure Hunter are options?

lol, +treasure hunter would make thf's gods. I don't think there's steal or mug options other than maybe recast timers. I think your dagger skills are a little off in the math, it'd take more like 15 merits to max out dagger.

I checked mystery tour, and they said it takes 115 merits to max out everything, and that's 1,150,000 exp. Got a snickers bar?

MT says the Gobat skills are split into two sets, 6 boosts on one max, and 3 boosts on another. Skaw stated above there is a cap on the combat skill at a max of 9 upgrades total on a 6/3 basis too @ 2 points each. Is this right? Or can I indeed have botht 12 Points in BOTH Evasion AND Dagger?

I dont know. The only things in combat skills that I upgrade are skills a whm can get, which isn't very many. Almost all my merits so far have gone into regen and MP, so I'd go with Skaw's limits on them since I've never used them.

Edit: Actually, I just checked mysterytour myself and you're right. I got the maximum number of combat skills confused, so you'd have to split up 9(I thought it was 12) upgrades among the 2 categories.

If I wanted to boost my 'magic skill' Ninjistu, assuming I take Ninja to 75 and do so, will the Ninjitsu Skill carry over to my Thief?

You can't boost ninjitsu magic since thf doesn't get skill in that by itself. The only things you can upgrade in the combat/magic are the skills that the main job gains skill in, no regards to subjob. It sucks, I know. I was pretty pissed that I couldn't pump up my h2h skill on my monk, since whm only gets club and staff skills.

No, I meant if I took Ninja up to 75, and Boosted my Ninjitsu Skill, would that skill get carried over to thief when I subbed it, even if for a little bit?

Oh, yeah, that would carry over.

M'k

Thank you very much. I think all my Questions were answered. Thanks Skaw and Bajaratt.

I need to chew off the last 2 levels...

Can I start My Merits AT 75? Or do I need to Cap EXP first?

You can do it as soon as you hit 75. Just talk to the moogle next to maat to give you the option. You just change back and forth from merits to exp in your mog house, or you can just cap out your exp and you'll automatically switch to merits then.
