PS FF8 Review

Ok? Don't play it. Move on. Jesus.

why? :P when fuel to the fire is SO FUN!

FF8 was one of the better psx ff's

Baw! I might have to do something in a video game! WAH! WORK. WAH!

I just like throwing flame on this fire <3

Part 2 is prime example of why FF8 was so boring :P

I have to agree, I found 8 quite a letdown.Squall was wayyy too damn emo D:

But the gunblade is to date one of the most badass weapons of all time. Right up there with the chainsaw gun from GoW.

But then again, when you're the successor of FF7, well thats a LOT to live up to =/

Personally I think the FF series started falling right after 7, and only recently is picking up again. The characters have steadily gotten more and more... fruity since that. 8 squall wasemo. 9 zidane was small, and kinda...whimpy. Zidane? Nuff said. Vaan? Oh lord >.<

Then they gave us the FF7 spin offs, vincent, well... :D

And Zach? The guy fricking cuts missiles in half. You really just can't get much more badass than that =o

The lead of FF13 looks pretty cool, if he's the good guy that is. And Lightning is.. well hot.

High expectations SE, high expectations D:

FF8 was so bad that I'm not even gonna bother watching that. I'm sure I'll agree with at least 3/4 of his points.

Oh god when you're the successor to an overinflated average RPG that's only popular because it's the first one many people have played, you've got a lot to live up to

More like when you're the successor to Final Fantasy 4 and Final Fantasy 6, two of the best damn examples of the genre, you've got a lot to live up to.

I also don't get why people hate on Squall. He wasn't emo, he was just a social outcast. Two wildly different things. It's not like he cut himself during his blogging on LiveJournal while listening to Simple Plan. You want emo? Sephiroth. Waaah, mommy who isn't really my mom. World must pay.

how come no one bitched like this when the game first came out? cuz it was great. for it's time, the graphics were good and the storyline was good. a wide amount of people never played ff1-6. you get lil boys and girls that just got first hair on ball play ps3 and xbox, but then give the old game a bad wrap cuz they think they compare it to everything that came AFTER the classics. i know some people do this for fun (game informer & ff7), but you can tell the differance between a good debate and someone crying for attention.

the 2 videos i watched made me accually wanna play ff8 over again, cuz i respect the story and the battle system.

i love how he goes on and on about squall being emo but he is the kid behind the camera bitching and crying for attention with a controller thats not even plugged in.

What a schmuck. "I hate the draw system! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"

A) No rule says you have to max out your spell draws on the first mob you encounter. "Holy shit, I'll never encounter another buzzing fly."

B) Using the cursor memory would've kept him from having to scroll down to the Draw option every time. You really can do that on auto-pilot.

Meh. Doesn't matter. It's still my favorite of the PS1 games. I'll take it over FF7 any day.

FFIX is my favorite PS1 FF, but I still enjoyed FFVIII a lot (I'd take both over VII), and the guy who did the review is an idiot, and so are people who can't stop crying nearly 10 years later.

Yes, we got it, you didn't like the game.
You remind us of that at nearly every possible moment, just shut the fuck up.

As someone who played and beat the major majority of Final Fantasy's as they were released, and doesn't put FFVII as the end all be all, I still didn't really like FFVIII. I've never beaten FFVIII because I did dislike the draw system but that in and of itself wasn't horrible. What I really had a problem with was linking my magic to my stats. It just made me not want to use magic since it felt like I was gimping myself. Also I've never been a huge fan of monsters leveling with me.

I keep thinking I should go play through it again. Maybe one day. I'd really like to experience the story. I loved the card game too. :)

How long ago did you play 7,8,9? If it was around the release then you might try playing them again. You can understand the under lying concepts more when you grow older compared to when you were 7-9 years old. Hell, I played them when I was like 12-13 and still missed some stuff.

As for complaining about the draw system, it's not like you really had to use magic much anyways because there was a vast array of Guardian Forces and the abilities you gained from them. Also, if you took a little bit of time to get ultimate weapons such as lionheart etc it's not like you didn't hit for 9999 anyways and using renzokuken (think that's what it was called) was quick damage. Don't forget the best battle feature ever..Odin ;D

Storyline wise was great as there was the usual FF love interest. Time compression was an unusual idea that squaresoft pulled off quite well imo. WoTG is almost similar to that idea and hell Lilith kind of looks like Ultimecia anyways..

addendum: Also I'm glad SE hasn't cashcowed any of the other games as much as ff7 they still have some dignity left. FF8 and maybe 9 with ps3 graphics would offer just as much as ff7 if not more.

i love ff6 ... 8 was ok , but i don't really like 10 tho

8 had an awesome atmosphere. I thought the first CD was awesome. Game was pretty fun overall.

Final Fantasy IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X were all great.

8 was the first FF I ever played, a friend of mine in high school had a psycho christian father that told him to get rid of the game since casting magic was evil or something (note not all christians are psycho, but this guys father was), and he offered it to me with the Brady games guide free of charge. And since 8 was my first it is still to this day my favorite. I don't know if that would be true had a played a different one first but I do know I have enjoyed all but one FF (because since getting 8 I have in one way or another acquired all others). 1-6 were awesome but felt a little weird to me going back to sprites. 8-12 have always been fun. But dear god 7... I hear so many people praise it so highly, and besides the fact that I found sephiroth to be kinda cool, I hated that game.

I'm currently watching these reviews, and am a quarter way through part two and was just poking in to say what has already been said. Drawing was easy, cursor memory made it an auto pilot process for me my second time and on play through. First time I played tho I didn't draw very much magic... hell I didn't even junction any magic until disk three when I accidentally selected to auto junction things to attack. I always had just used GF's to blow my way through the game before that.

Lastly before I go back and finish watching these reviews for a laugh and then come back here to point out everything wrong with them I'll say this. Drawing wasn't the only way to get magic, the only thing iirc that you absolutely needed to draw were the few GF's held by bosses. Everything else could be refined from cards items and other magic. So bitching about the draw system just really fails.

Personally I loved 9, no idea why everyone keep saying it sucks =/

8 was fun imo. It did, however, get a bit repetative and boring in the longrun.

If you watch all of those reviews, one of them is about FF7 and how he says it's not the "greatest game evar!" which I agree too. It was fun and good, but he hates the hype people give it :P

and ya, I'd say 9 is the epitome of FF in terms of what the creator WANTED the series to be. It was just so fun too and I really did like the characters even if Kuja was dressing like a drag queen XD

The problem with FF8 is many, imo. I don't mind the draw system so much but it and the junction system make the game flawed and lame. Leveling, an important aspect of an RPG, is pointless because of monsters leveling with you, using magic is absolutely stupid cause then you just make yourself shitty since you need to link magic to statuses, the characters were mostly useless or annoying and the whole "GF made you forget things" is lame :\ The story overall was interesting with the crazy time paradox it causes XD but it wasn't the best story evar! D: Most who seem to praise it as the best ignore all its flaws for usually one reason, the fact it was more focused on a love story and those people are romantics or whatnot... I don't care if you're a romantic, you can't ignore the flaws of the game cause of it :(

And yes, you don't have to use the draw system to get items, but you do until you can have a GF to refine them which isn't right away. So ya, it was a flawed game, much as FFXII was flawed and felt like it wasn't fully finished.
