Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread?

I couldn't play at all today which I'm pissed about. I played until 3 am last night leaving off with Fang and Lightning.

Gotta say, Palumpolum is freaking beautiful. It's very rare that I stop in a game to look at it's visuals. The music fits well.

Oh SE and your referencing ;)

I'm closing in on the end of chapter 9 now (at least it feels like the end) and I've come to the conclusion that I can think about this game in 2 ways:

When I think of it in the context of being a member of the final fantasy series, I feel as though it falls into the middle of the pack, probably closer to the bottom for me with final fantasy 10. It's no FF7 and for the most part even FF9 was better at making you feel like you're in a fantasy world.

However, this game is pretty amazing standing on its own. I think the fact that it wears the final fantasy name makes me critique it a little more so than I probably should. Rename it "Flashy Graphics RPG" or something and I'd probably feel like it's a solid 9/10. Because of the FF history and what I'm looking for from the series in the future, it's more like a 7.5/8.0 imo-- again up until chapter 9 anyways.

The battle system is quite good in this game and will long be the contributing feature from Lightning and company's adventures. The linear-ness (yes it's a word now) of this game drives me nuts as it often feels like I'm just chugging along rather than being emersed in a final fantasy world. It still doesn't - for me at least- feel like I'm in some bigger world, but rather just running through small segments of beatuftiful environments. Maybe that changes later on in the game- idk.

I'm most looking forward to these challenging fights people keep posting about. Collecting 5 stars on all of those hunts sounds like it will be a blast.

tbh, I didn't get annoyed with the linear-ness at all. And coming to Pulse is like day and night in the game. I got absolutely ass-wiped by some of the monsters on Gran Pulse...

Honestly I think this game is creeping up on my top 3 FFs and I haven't even had it open up for me yet.

I'm waiting on Gran Pulse to be honest. Everyone's talking about it, it's not linear there, and you get to go as you please there. I just don't want it to be for a couple of hours.

I hope FFXV they manage to make it HD with some towns and fields. Not bitching, but I hope they manage to keep it classic next time around.

Also Myrrh, theres a much better CP/Incentive Chips farming spot in chapter 9. It blows the chapter 7 one out of the water. Its the long hallway after you get back inside for the first time. You'll know it once you get there.

Yeah, that's a far better farming spot I just found it, was gonna post it lol. You can just keep running back and forth through a door, and the soldiers keep respawning every time.

Reaching the tail end of Chapter 12.
For reference, a level 9 Crystarium starts at 10k per node, and can hit up to 20k on some side paths.
Hope's fucking Curaja sidepath takes 60k. Holy shit.

just hit gran pulse and ran up to one of those brontosaurus things for fun, it stomped its foot and game over....

the fights are harder and im completely lagged on weapon upgrades, i think im supposed to be way further ahead.... I usually dont open the guide until i beat the game once but in terms of weapon upgrades i might make an exception

P.S. the soldiers right before the final fight of chapter 9 i think, Final fight on the big airship, the soldiers have decent CP and drop incentive chips that can be sold for 2K gil, not bad.

No, you can't really tackle most of Gran Pulse until endgame.
You could try to max out subjobs, but their costs are extremely prohibitive to be logical to increase until the end of the game.

You see thats what turns me off a RPG when people start farming one collection of enimes that keep respawning in a certain area. Theres no skill needed, no exploration or advancing the story plot, just endless easy exp or money grabs. And if you say the game was designed to be that way to allow players to gain exp/money faster well thats a rip off when they could be creating a larger game that actually makes you go to find those extras rather than keep handing them on a platter to you via respawns.

Sorry but this game nice as it looks has nowhere near the imagination or content of older FF games, they've dummed down the series just to make the games more mainstream I feel.

You hit something exactly here... Where the hell is the imagination in this game. Characters named Snow, Lightning and Hope... Summons are transformers... Paths are linear as Heavenly Sword.. Add to that the majority of battles is just spamming the A button on 360/X on PS3.

Believe it or not, Kitase is interested in making FFXIII-2 >_>

The game's barely out here and they are already thinking about doing a sequel.

I really wouldn't mind an XIII-2 somewhere in the future. Considering there are two worlds to explore, there's a lot of ground left uncovered in this game.
I wouldn't mind a game set in Gran Pulse's past, for example.

So I see you peeps still have too much time on your hands lol.. I know some who have beat this and it sickens me.

Sooo anyway, I picked this up yesterday after having forgot it was even released, I had pre-ordered and all only 2 weeks prior to the release. Barely touched it yesterday and played for a couple hours today as all my chores were done, yay! Stuck on a boss.. and I could scream. I think it's the 4th boss in Lake Breasha or something.. and no matter what tactics I use with my Paradigms this thing leashes a 2 hit combo and wipes my entire party. Battle never lasts more than a minute.

How about not having any explanation as to the use of elementals/spells.. spells.. I have spells?? Yeah fuck you SE. Guess I'll get back to studying the living shit out of my strat guide in order to proceed the slightest.

What boss? What's his name?

I think the first war that
Spoiler:

Vanille and Fang took part in, and the story behind how they completed their focus

would be awesome to play through.

Yea can't say I'm impressed atm.. only put in like an hour n a half, and it's pretty and all, but there's no depth. And the script these people have to read is f*cking atrocious - I remember the guy character saying "We're the heroes! Lets be heroes" or something to that effect and I'm just thinking this is really stupid!

I agree so hard with the script issues. The dialog is so bad man.

I always find it funny when final fantasy fans expect some sort of (insert poet of your choice here) style from the games.... your talking about a series that had the phrase "You Spoony Bard".
