Would it be possible to move the Flameboard to a "private forum" just like the WoW and WAR forums (ie- open for anyone to join, but off of the public forum index). It'll satisfy those that would like to see it go (if there are any), and those that want to keep it. Just a thought.

I am all for that idea since I think the flameboard is one of the reasons we have so many problems on this server...

At the same time, the flame board is what makes QCDN so popular. The flameboard is like the poster child for QCDN. It gives this site its appeal so to speak. I'd compare the flameboard on qcdn a lot like say a short run TV show on a TV station your normally do not get. Example for me would be Rome. I don't have HBO but I will subscribe while the show is running so I can watch it. The other shows on HBO are filled in there for fun but Rome is my main attraction and I plan on canceling my subscription fee after the show is done.

I could go on a long tangent about how I feel about the flameboard and how it reflects the social issues we have on Quetz. I've been around since the PS2 release NA on the server so I have been around for a hot minute ;) I have also played on another server and can compare that the social structure here and there are very very different.

I still and will forever remain a QCDN fan and keep posting on here even if I do not agree with the oh so famous flameboard :)

I don't see any reason for this seeing as its the #1 most posted on forum.

Miros was saying he didn't want people to associate this site with the Flameboard (I think), and keeping it off the public index would accomplish that while at the same time keeping it available to the masses. In other words, it would just be hidden, but not gone.

Ty said it. This is the reason things won't change :) It is sad that it is the most posted area in our community.

It still would/could be. It just wouldn't be on the front page if they implemented it like the other public private forums.

In all fairness, there's only one place you can flame someone. There's 20 others forums you can talk bullshit with people. That's a hell of a reason why, in my opinion. We've very spread out. I do, however, agree with Lucki on this one. It's a good way to appease both crowds.

I'd agree too. For the people who want access to the flameboard, one extra click, if even that, wouldn't be much extra effort. And for the people first visiting, they wouldn't be welcomed by all the unsightly bullshit that frequents the FB - which incidently makes quite fascinating reading, but if it's not what Miros wants people to see when they first hit qcdn.org, this resolution is perfect.

I was going to say, from a business standpoint the popular forums should remain public but then i noticed that there are no more banners on the site, so I guess that qcdn is now a non-profit forum???

Anyway, I like the idea but I dont think it would change anything, maybe do nothing but delay exposing the ugly side of the forum to new users. But lets face it, all roads eventually lead to the flameboard.

Personally I hate how the WoW, Warhammer, etc boards are hidden... it's basically killed them. They get next to no traffic, probably because nobody knows about them.

Yeh but like EVERYONE knows of the flame board so I doubt this will happen. I for one would like it to be hidden, would I still view it? Yes. But you'd have less of the "QCDN is just a huge place where people bitch" which lets face it, they are wrong seeing as the only real drama is on the flame board and it's their problem for viewing it.

Maybe there could be a (closed) thread, explaining all of the Private Forum Area's, their purpose(s) and how to apply to them. (User CP > Group Memberships) This would be more for the people that didn't know about the Group Membership area under their User CP. If this is already in place, then please forgive. ^^; Just a thought/idea.

I like this idea. There are plenty of people who just have to look at the FB because its there. Its like a trainwreck.

There may be fewer users joining the FB group and less FB activity if Lucki's idea was implemented. May not be, though. No way to know for sure without testing.

I do think there are quite a few members who would rather not see it at all, so, even if its not a private forum, maybe a separate user group could be created for those members who don't want anything to do with it.

No one forces you to click on it and go in there.

Just because some people don't browse it doesn't mean it should be made into a closed usergroup. By that logic you could do that to every forum here because I know I don't use them all and I'm sure everybody has some forums they don't look at.

Its there. Its part of QCDN. If you don't wanna look at it, scroll down a tiny bit more and move on.

I think it is the image and impression the flameboard gives, Ty. When I met a few people this year at Otakon who play FFXI and told them what server I was on, I was shocked to hear the reply: "Oh.. you guys have that qcdn... no wonder you guys have all shit to deal with".

I admit, I no longer play FFXI but I am still apart of the qcdn community. I personally do not like being represented by the all so famous QCDN Flameboard.

I remember a few years back when QCDN rid themselves of the flameboard and the overall population on here dropped... Old saying goes, bad news sells better than good news :\

doing that, it'll go from one of the most posted forums to one of the least, just like what happened to the WoW forums when they were made private due to a bunch of people bitching and whining about it

your reasons make perfect sense and I actually agree under certain circumstances but making it a joined usergroup will cause a very large amount of users on this board unable to post in them (they don't post much, don't read much, therefore won't know how to see it, and how to post)

there were a lot of people, with low post counts and stuff posting on the WoW boards before it got made private, but after that happened most of them disappeared and it's about 10-12 of the same people right now because they're the only veteran forum users that actually know how to access it.

I was shocked to hear the reply: "Oh.. you guys have that qcdn... no wonder you guys have all shit to deal with".

It's not surprising, I've run into people in parties who have uttered the term "lolQCDN" or "lolFlameboard" more in the past year than ever.

While I understand that it doesn't show up when a user first logs in, and is inaccessible to new users until they post ten times, it's fairly indicative of how our server thinks when new users apply, spam the first ten posts, and then...blammo, off to the FB they go.

That's kind of the root of my point, that most users of the forum will simply think it was removed unless they read deep enough into the vast cobwebbed recesses of the service and support forums to know how to access it.

same with new users, too

it would kill the flameboard, plain and simple. you might as well remove it, since most flames are against people not using the boards and they'd be rendered unable to reply unless informed how

You know, I have to say this but I probably would have never known about or joined QCDN if it wasn't for the Flameboard. Not to say it wouldn't have gotten to me, but some asshat flamed me and I first visited QCDN to defend myself. It was after visiting a couple times to that thread that I "moved in".

I do however agree, A LOT of people know of it, and anyone could find it if they wanted to and if there is some guidelines for joining posted. Why wave our dirty laundry in front of all the viewing public.
