Gear = Skill?

How can you say that a Deft Ring is better than Deft Ring +1? You've got to be dumber than Sneakypants.

Ahem... Peacock Charm... End of story he wins.

How about knowing other jobs. Setting up skillchains. Determining the best way to fight....you fuckers are so used to joining parties that the people like me who always lead are forced to hold your hands and walk you through everything.

Sure for fucks like YOU ... all you have to do is join and someone will hold your hand through it all...therefore all you have to do is know your own job. But for guys like me...skill is required to lead the masses of morons that we have to invite to OUR parties.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Ok Peacock Charm is just for show you and I both know that.

Yeah +10acc and ranged acc who needs that?

You suck at life

Uhmm +10 acc is just for show... By that token Snipers are useless... Just for show items...

PCC is re-god-damn-diculiuse, I would do almost anything to have one, just not save up 15 mil or camp a 48 hour NM...

Gear>Skill. Most jobs are just a routine. Autoattack till the weapon skill, soften the mob up till the magic burst, keep people healed and buffed - refresh cycles, etc. What skill? You do the same thing over and over. It might take some mental competence to figure it all out initially, but levelling quickly becomes a routine. Most of pt effectiveness is out of a player's direct control. Manual dexterity doesn't determine whether a damage dealer hits the mob. In game calculations do. Those are what matter, and the only control a player has over the outcome of those calculations is gear and stats. You might be the best player at selecting autoattack and eating a sandwich that ever graced the plains of Vanadiel, but it's your gear that determines whether you cut the mob to pieces, or simply create a lot of wind.

You oversimplified everything. Yes, we do the same thing over and over, but it takes some dedication to do it right everytime. If I recall correctly, you're mage, so you have at least leveled WHM. Let me ask you a few questions:
- Can you cast -na spells 0.5 second after seeing the monster uses its special? (if you're not casting anything else)
- Have you memorized all special abilities of every monter you have fought (its effect and animation for example)?
- Can you time your Flash to prevent the monster to interrupt the tank's casting (Cure, Utsusemi,...) (for NIN tank, it requires you to count his shadows)
- Do you reapply Regen promptly right after the initial Regen wears off on the tank?

Those are the questions I use to perfect my WHM skills, even though I'm not there yet.
As for melees, if all you do is auto-attacking and WS, you're just leeching the exp.

Btw, gaining skills by "leveling quickly" is BS. Those level whores are often the less-skilled players. Out of party activities, like BCNMs, enhance your skill much faster.

I partied with a NIN the other day, a Taru NIN.

Did that happen to be Stiltzkin by any chance?

I think that was the name. He was really good, I know he told me he was saving up for a Scorp. Harness,b ut that is beside the point. He alone proves that gear does not dominate skill, it is the other way around!

Vang had better gear, but they both did the same great job at hate holding and management! :)

Yeah, Stiltz is my oldest friend on the game..

He can outtank me as PLD >.>

He's one of the best NIN I've known on this server..

A skilled NIN > PLD (Yes, I'm a PLD, and I'm saying this)

Too bad our WHM was shitty and slow.

I think Gear = Skill

Atleast for melees post 60 as someone mentioned above. If you have crap gear, you'll suck. But even if you have uber gear and don't know what the hell you're doing, you'll still suck. They both go hand in hand :P

Two of them were in my LS..haha Stiltz and Artem

for me, Skill >= gear, because good gear can get you by sometimes, and Skill can make up for bad gear. Also, good players will have better chances of makeing money, thus haveing better gear.

Well there are only a few jobs that need skill. Ranger, Thief, Ninja, Bard, Red Mage, and Black Mage. Ranger and Thief because of pulling and Ranger for Knowing when to control hate and when to tank the mob. Ninja is obvious, knowing when to cast what and not get hit...tough job. Bard you have to get your placement right and get your pattern down...you control the flow of a party. Red Mage same thing...you control the flow of a party. Black Mage, skill = stunning bombs and not pulling hate while getting those spells off....you BETTER know how to MB by now I swear to god.

Drg, Drk, War, Mnk, Pld, Whm, Sam...they have a pretty easy job. You just do one thing. I have noticed a difference in TP gain between 3 monks over the past 3 days, but it was almost negliable. Despite this, all jobs need good gear. If I dont have +Rng acc, I wont hit. If a Whm doesnt have Erase, it means you cant level in certain places.

No point having skill if you cant front for the gear.

Fae

Oh yeah, WHM is pretty easy to play, WHMs only do one thing. PLDs are lazy people who just voke/flash/cure/shield bash/cover/buff and watch TV at the same time.

And man, how tough is it to play RNG! RNG is the only job that has to control hate, that DRK can go all out with Souleater and chat with his gf at once. RNG is the only job that needs to do barrage every 5 minutes. And guess what, RNGs do twice the job of other DDs, they have to melee with daggers + shooting with bows. When shit hits the fan, while the tank and healers are busting their ass off to save the party, the RNGs must continue shooting because they're too busy to do anything else.

Get a fucking clue, or play the damned job before you say it's hard or easy.

Congrats on being the not-actually-the-first-this-happens-all-the-time person to 'forget' that Summoner is, in fact, a playable job in this game.

You need both gear and skill, tbh i think you need skill more. What good is all the expenive gear if you dont have a clue how to use it?

I was going to post some long fucking reply, but I just said fuck it.

I don't know why you guys realize how simple it is.

Fuck someone with good gear.

Fuck someone with good skill.

Give me someone with both.

Also let me break it down to you the differnce between "Good gear" and "OMFG, or 'uber' gear".

O.kote- Good gear.
B. Kote- uber gear.
Scorpian Harness- Good gear.
Scorpain Harness HQ- uber gear.
Haubergeon- Good gear.
Hauby HQ- uber gear.
emperor hairpin- good gear
O.hat - uber gear.

Do you understand? Just from what your LS says, or what people in jeuno say, there is better gear, from what you have, and what you have it common. For christsakes, everyone has once had a pair or two of leaping boots. How many people have Winged boots +1?

Every job needs skill..

Just each job has its own "Individual" skill.. Hence the reason for different jobs..

Sure, some jobs may be "easier" than other jobs.. IF you've played them your entire time online.. Like for me, PLD is easy, but you give my friend who was a 75 DRK to play it, he couldn't tank half as good as I do(I know, because I let him one day :D )..

And WHM is just like RDM, just WHM does things for the party, not the monster.. Only thing that RDM really does for the party, is Refresh.. WHM takes care of the rest of it.. They both aren't "easy" though.. No job is "easy".

And SMN is the most useless job in the game.. Yeah.. Right.. That's why I have a friend who's like 74(don't remember, he'll stab me for it too) Maurinendalorin.. SMN's Bloodpacts can do 1000+ damage post-70..

Anyways, again no job is "easy". To some, it may be, and kudos to you for that..

But yeah, without skill, good gear is useless..
