What would you guys consider a gimp setup... I have a 75 MNK and I will be honest I don't have the best gear but I dont "think" I am gimp.

Here we go,

Weap - Wagh B.
Head - Ohat or Turban
Neck - Spectacles or Chiv Chain
Ear1 - Minuet earing
Ear2 - +5 attk earing (cant remember the name)
Body - SH
Hands - AF1 or Okote
Ring1 - Snipers or +4 str ring
Ring2 - Snipers or +4 str ring
Back - Amemet(sp?) +1
Belt - Brown Belt
Legs - AF1
Feet - Dune boots.

Lemme know what you think, I dont have enough time for most endgame stuff so I dont have Shura or Salvage gear ><

Not a MNK personally, but I'll comment on what I know and what I see from other monks. For starters, I know you said you don't have a ton of time for end game events, but getting better gear will require some time on your part. I think Sky would be the best place to start, there are an awful lot of great monk items there: Byakko Hiadates, Shura body/head/legs, and perhaps others. Salvage is also another great area for monks, Usukane is probably the best set for monk, but I wouldn't focus entirely on it since the gear is harder and more time comsumptive to come by, plus some of it can be very expensive (read: body). Assaults also have some good items as well and it's an event which can be done spur of the moment with a small pickup.

For now though, I'd focus on getting destroyers, Merman's over Coral earring, and getting something for legs (probably assault piece, easiest to get). After that, it's just a matter of how you spend your time, in sky farming, sea farming, salvage/assault spamming, or major HNMs (black belt items).

It also depends on what you do with your time. Your gear list isn't much different than mine -- I have Destroyers and Strike Subligar, but not Dune Boots -- but I'm not involved in endgame activities where better gear would be desirable.

I'd love some of that Sky gear, but I'm pretty much doing Campaign all the time and don't really miss it.

Neck - Spectacles or Chiv Chain (either's fine)
Ear1 - Minuet earing

Body - SH (Pahluwan)
Hands - AF1 or Okote
Ring1 - Snipers or +4 str ring
Ring2 - Snipers or +4 str ring
Back - Amemet(sp?) +1
Belt - Brown Belt
Legs - AF1 (strike subligar or Pahluwan)
Feet - Dune boots.

Stacking STR on a monk is a complete waste of time, even during weapon skills, attack and accuracy will give you much better numbers. Minuet earring is a bit of a judgement call, if you're with a bard all the time, go for it; if not, I wouldn't bother.

During a weapon skill, I'd recommend throwing on your optical hat, and replacing your brown belt with a life belt. Do assaults for better body/legs, for that Pahluwan or whatever it's called.

Sadly, if you don't do endgame, you're not going to progress in your gear that much further. You're really missing out on most of your endgame gear by not doing endgame, so I'd recommend doing endgame if you ever get the time. You'd be able to get better gear in almost every slot you have.

Lose the AF legs and it's fine. You can replace them with vendor's slops, which are probably the best affordable option to you until you get something better, although there's Strike Subligar if you have the money. There's Cobra legs from Campaign and Melee Hose from dynamis; but clearly the best options are obtainable from Sky (Byakko's Haidate) and Salvage (Usukane legs).

Get a second attack earring though, and keep Minuet earring only for when you have a Minuet song active. Other than that it looks fine. Just work on your rare/ex items now; Destroyers being the most important upgrade.

I would slap any monk wearing vendor slops.

Honestly, like most others have said, your best bet is to try to at least get into some sky. Which isn't too time consuming, and if you find a decent shell, most will have it already, so you'll get em quick.

Destroyers, Peacock charm, Bkote (xolo isnt hard to get some friends to kill), Uring/rajas maybe, foragers mantle, and Fuma's? (Not sure what mnk's prefer, haste or the kick shit).

Thats some things obtainable without doing endgame.

Get destroyers, sell str rings and get double snipers.

For legs AF2 is great, or just palluwahn.

Get two attack rings if you dont have a brutal earring.

Use turban for TP and O.hat for WS (depending on your accuracy).

Throw away dune boots and get fumas.

actually if he doesnt have b hide the dunes might parse better for him if he gets an enhances kick attacks piece.

But the most important thing is get destroyers

Tbh for the time being you do seem kinda gimp but mnk has a lot of gear that cannot be bought so a lot of people go through that period of time.

I really hope that was sarcasm....

Pal legs would do you fine Gohaan if you decided you can't do end game.

I don't think your "gimp" but I'm also not a MNK so can't exactly say.

Did everyone forget how to read? Name a better TP piece for legs, that are bought. Pahluwan legs aren't bought. The other options? Strike subligar, which I suggested is better if you have the money.

Don't suggest something that wont really help please :\ Vendor slops is a slap in the face to some of the higher monks. I'd hold out for doing assaults and get Pahluwan legs.... They aren't hard to get.... Actually they are really easy to get... and you can get them in 3-4 weeks.

I see what you're saying. 3 acc won't really help, over guard skill +10.

I'm glad you're trying to be funny and pretending to ignore my sarcasm.

your sarcasm of using vendor slops? Gotcha.

Back to subject. I don't recommend gimping yourself by buying those, i SUGGEST getting together with a few friends and doing assaults to earn 20k points and get Pal legs/ body. You can get both within 2 months, NO END GAME REQUIRED! :D

Fantastic idea. And until then, I suggest paying 8,000G for 3 Acc. Shown thusly:http://www.ffxiah.com/item.php?id=15618&sid=16

(Note: people pay upwards of 1.5M for 3 Accuracy in other slots)

Vendor slops would be a better option than temple hose, but so would republican subligar. They would be a decent option until he gets something else. There is no reason to wear useless gear until you get something good when there is a readily available, cheap, and somewhat useful option available. Buy the vendor slops, wear them until you get something better.

I'd rather see a monk wear something mildly useful like vendor slops than something useless. You definitely don't want to stop with them, since they're the lowest on the ladder of good pants, but they're better than nothing at all.

Gotta love people without monks giving stupid advice.

Vendor's won't help over AF1 legs for those 3-4 weeks until he would get the P. Legs (If he even chooses to go that way)? Is he supposed to do Assault, and only Assault, for that month until he gets that piece?

Also, slap to the face to who? Not every other player in this game rides around on some high horse like you apparently do.

On-Topic: As someone who has never done any endgame myself, listen to the suggestions that most of the people have thrown out there. Destroyers, mission rings if you can get em, and new leg gear would help, but primarily you have most of the best available purchasable gear.

I don't know if this was directed at me, but after playing the game for almost 5 years, it doesn't matter whether you have the job leveled or not. I read about most jobs, besides like...pup and pld. And honestly mnk is hardly different from the rest. I wouldn't leave my mog house on mnk, if vendor slops was all I had.
