Gusgen Mining Bots

My normal source of income was always mining. I used to be able to mine for an afternoon and get a reasonable sum of gil and not much effort. The amount varied greatly but it was better than most other forms of farming as a white mage. My normal spot had always been gusgen mines after I reached level 36 since I could teleport to dem and warp out quickly to sell my rewards. No need for TH or meleeing, all I needed was mining gear and some pickaxes and didn't need to stop until I could no longer synth or was full of materials.

However, lately the entire zoned is packed with gil sellers botting the mining. Its easy to tell they are. Everyone of them is level 50-51, the minimum level to safely mine the entire zone without agro, rank 1 and a majority of them are DRG (don't understand why they all chose DRG). To prove they bot, walk in front of them with a few mobs and they will tab through them constantly (a good sign of a bot). I have contacted the help desk in search of a GM endlessly. Unlike many other people who have tried, they refuse to investigate it any further. A simple auto response is all I get even after demanding a GM. I think SE's new policy about bots is to ignore it until people give up reporting them.

So I have come to the only solution to removing the problem. MPK the lot of them. Many of you might think this is wrong, but I find no fault in it. Botting like this is illegal and unfair. Its not like a bot fisher who only profits himself. They are taking away legitimate mining points which are finite and a source of income from many players who actually take the effort to farm. Instead they are forced to some other form of farming with no chance to compete. A bot of such kind is impossible to compete against and the only solution is to go somewhere else, but I propose otherwise. I have tried mining elsewhere but nowhere else is as profitable or worthwhile without the risk of death.

Now I ask people to MPK these sellers and take back what doesn't belong to them. Its very simple to do solo and better with a group of two, preferably mages. All that is needed is to bind a single mob on top of the sellers. This can be slow and possibly ineffective. A superior method is with another partner. One person brings a large group of linking mobs (funguars work very well) and stand next to the miner, then escape. The second person who is not partied with you will cast bind on one mob just after the first person escapes. All the hate will be transfered to the miner because the bound mob will attack the closest target and they will link attacking the same person. Then the second person must escape before bind wears. This method does not work as well solo.

This post is not here to discuss the moral implecations of MPKing or whether gil sellers have the right to play the game. MPKing someone requires they are an actual person and as far as I am concerned they are bots. This post is here to get others who will do something about them. MPK and they will get figure it out, that they are not welcome and we want them gone. As for posting this here, I know the responses will vary. Some denouncing MPK and others agreeing. I do not care much really. Heck, even if you don't care about the problems, I offer some a fun source of MPK that many would have no real moral dilemas with. Take it as you wish, but if you walk through Gusgen Mines and see a dead miner, don't raise it.

Basic morals set aside and lets pretend this is a good idea (MPking Supposed Bots). What if it is just a JP player minding his own businees or a lower lvl comes along at just the right moment, you have just MPK someone minding there own business. I am sorry if they are eating up parts of your gil, you could always compete and/or find another method of gil. You could always try gardening, thats what i am doing.

I really dont care what you do , but i would hate it if i bring my LVL 40 DRG through there minding my own business and i come across 2 guys aparently getting attacked and i engage to help out the aggro and then those 2 guys i am helping Warp leaving me with 10 mobs at lvl 40. I would be /t "You" WTF you think your doing i was helping you and since i am DRG/WHM soloing i can not take these, Thanks you F*****G Looser.

Thats what i think, even though no one asked! :P

Here's a tip Flip...Don't help out anyone you see w/o a linkpearl and with a bashed-my-fingers-on-the-keyboard-to-make-my-character-name. I know exactly who you are talking about Lavi, and believe me, I screw with them every change I get.

As far as not getting a response from the help desk, I don't know why they won't respond to you. I repost Thebrecond (sp?) and Bedude and that other guy with a Veu-something every time I go into the mines. When I contact the help desk, I always put botting - Gusgen Mines in the comment and I have always been able to speak to a GM. I tell them what is going on as detailed as I can, I give them the names of the PCs and I give them the time if I can. Usually I will /tell the botters and see if anyone answers me back b/c if someone answers, that's all the GM needs to ignore the call. If I don't get a response within about 20 minutes, I call a GM. Now I don't know if it's just a coincidence or if a couple of the GMs have actually listened to me, but on at least 3 occasions that I have called a GM, the botters weren't showing up anymore on /sea.

I completely agree with you about this kind of botting being very frustrating since the mining points are very limited and they move around. Nothing is more frustrating in the game to me than to spend 15 minutes roaming from spawn point to spawn point and then when I FINALLY see the green Mining Point text, walking up to it and using my pickaxe macro....only to dig up a pebble and then get a "Command Error has occurred..." because the mining point moved. On a related note, I have noticed Dyaga's character can be found in Sanctuary of Zi'tah a lot lately farming goobbues...I wonder if the bots are even running other gilsellers out of the mines?

Just make sure you're actually taking out a bot, and you might have a good idea (if GMs won't do anything). However, making sure they're bots isn't always obvious. You'll need more than not responding to tells as evidence. I know when I fish, I'll occasionally get a "Bot Vigilante" that thinks he's doing Quetzalcoatl a service by being a pain in the ass to every player with a fishing pole. I ignore those players out of spite. If I were mining and someone asked if I was a bot, I would ignore that person too. Anyway, if you have more evidence than "I sent him a tell and he didn't reply", then by all means, go Dirty Harry and take them all out. Noone will think poorly of you for it.

I must say the mines are becmoing somewhat useless.

However, if you know how to mine around them, you can still make money without breakin ToS.

I would /tell you how, but then I couldn't do it anymore.

But let me say this, I'm GLAD they put bots at the 4 spots up top. Noone ever stays uptop and when bots aren't there, I end up escaping every 30 min or so to hit em and make em move back down below (this was when I first started mining and I could be in there by myself for hours on end).

But really and truely, do what you must, I want someone to kill Bimaoshua. He's the one that really pisses me off. Dyagya dosen't bother me, I talked to him about it and he stopped mining on top of me.

I'd say kill the f'ers. But be very, very sure it's not just some real player who is afk or doesn't want to talk. As, far as it being tough to distinguish a bot... it's not. The OPer is right, bots tend to follow a very strict pattern of activity. If you've read any of my posts about the fish-bots in Yhugott grotto, you know what I'm talking about. (The same emote on a time schedule, etc).

As far as them being harmless or just a nuisance. Just ask any of the people MPKed by gil sellers while fighting serket or simurgh. Breezer and her crew got the money to level and outfit their high level jobs by fish botting in the grotto. I was there through the months as it happened, and now they are actual attended characters fucking over actual players.

Dude i used to mine at one spot also (Easier to do other stuff along) sometimes and trust me some nut called me a chineese gil seller.I"M chineeeese!! i keeel you!!

Untrue. Ever try to make money selling fish when bots are loading the AHs with what you're selling? It sucks. I'm glad there aren't nearly as many bots as there used to be. Square-Enix got it right when they changed the fishing system.

Still, that sucks about the mining.

Lave MPK thoose fuckers but make sure there not bots that shit aint rightthere stealin money from player that deserve it more then them so kill em all

You could take down those bots on the top floor with one of the NM ghosts that appears. I'm pretty sure the ghosts still aggro at level 50. Just pull the ghost and zone into Oldton. Or bind escape the ghost on the other ones.

I would rather train Juggaler Hecatomb up there but I'd probably die before I could get him there...He wiped me out as a 67 PLD, but keep in mind I was in Mining Gear and only had a Sword and Shield.

I have had the same problem. It is obvious to tell when they run out of pickaxes. When the mine point spawns their head will move in the direction of the point and when you use the point, their head returns to normal and this process repeats untill the point is gone. At this point their head never moves again until a point respawns. Now who would just stand there for hours nodding at a mine point and not respond to any tells?

The problem with training him is that he is a 24 hour pop so unless you want to wait around for him to pop it isn't worth it.

Actually this is pure genious. I totally forgot about those NMs. One of them is a forced spawn for a Bastok Mission too so I could either find someone to keep popping him or change to Bastok and stay on that mission forever.

I played around with the top floor ghosts and they do not aggro the bots however if you bind and silence them they take down the bots fairly quick.

The sellers were on high alert yesterday shortly after a little accident with Glabond

Yeah, this has been pissing me off too to no end. What i'm going to do is, instead of MPKing them (I aint gonna get banned or temp banned for these fuckers) i'll just camp the mining spots on top of them. If i see a mining spot, i'll just mine with them. If they bitch, i'll just answer {I dont speak english} {I dont speak Japanese} And if they throw a hissy fit, they can fuck of and die^^. MPKing them, while as fun as it may be, doenst really stop the problem, and technicly you can get in trouble for it. SE doesnt care who MPKs who, as long as someone was MPK'd they have to ability to take action (yeah i know its not often, but screw that, i'm not going to get a GM call for a Zinc or Tin ore).

I highly doubt that gilsellers that are botting are going to call a GM on you.

Simple way to avoid confusion, check their rank. Honestly tho if you are rank 1 at 40, you deserve to be MPked ;) But seriously i think this is a good solution to an annoying problem. Just be wary of who you are doin it to. Make sure you /check rank, gear, and try talkin to em, bring a mob to check for targeting. Really sounds pretty flawless to me. Although i never go to the mines, so have fun! ^_^

I'll point out the very obvious. Bots aren't there so when you try to MPK someone in Gusgen the prey is normally too weak so its gonna take a long time for your MPK mobs to kill the fucker. A bot won't run away unless the botter is actually near the computer. I've seen it. They sit there and die and about an hour later they message people you killed me. I didnt MPK them I did emote tho, so I guess they figured my laughing meant I killed them. Whatever, I dont care.

But really if you goto MPK someone and they sit there dieing and keep mining its pretty damn fucking obvious. I say we make a sweep and MPK more.

Well, considering the mobs are too weak to them. Try and mpk them. If they aren't botting they will kill them, if they are they die.
