Upon reaching lv 70 Sam I now have some additional choices in my gear selection, I thought I could ask Sam's here what their opinon is on the Hachiman set, it seems like I could upgrade several parts of my current gear or add to ws macro's.

The Hachiman Domaru certainly looks better than a harby as do the gloves but should I take additional str and tp build over the added attack I got from harby and Horomusha Kote? Just curious and would be greatful for some guidence here.

As I progress to 75 I'd also be interested in any other gear choices that can help me do well.

I'd go with Hands and feet to get a 6-hit build. Yes, you'll be losing a little damage per hit, but doing weapon skills 17% faster is much better.

I wouldn't bother with Hachiman body, a Hauby is better; especially for TPing.

At 73, shura gear is excellent. Head and legs are a must, body is useful for TPing, but about the same as a hauby. Usukane gear is also good, the feet are the best feet for SAM in the game. AF Hands +1 are great for weapon skills, but nothing else is really worth upgrading. Grab a brutal earring while you're working on your AF+1.

head has a little acc on it, unless you have v.sallet or Abtal turban

not going to notice much differance in ws from domaru and haub

hands go along with the feet for the 6/100, but otherwise not advisable for ws if your going to go with domaru.

legs are junk, threw and threw.

feet is the poor man's 6/100.

head options at 75; optical hat, walahra turban, askar helm, usukane somen, ace's helm

body; haub+1, askar korizan, usukane haramaki, Hachiryu Haramaki

hands; o.kote, h.kote, usukane gote, a.braclets

legs; byakko haidate, Usukane Hizayoroi, Hachiryu Haidate

feet; saotome sune-ate, amir boots, usukane sune-ate

So what is the rich-man's 6/100? I've got the money, and if there's a better option sans usukane feet, I'd love to hear about it.

The only other easy options to hit 6/100 is to either full-time the domaru, the level 50 JSE body/legs, or usukane feet. Domaru or the JSE is a bad idea, and usukane isn't cheap in terms of the amount of time and luck involved. Anything else would be several pieces of gear.

Going to offer the black-sheep opinion...

There's stuff on paper, and there's stuff in pratice. On paper a 6 hit build requires x amount of StoreTP gear. In prectice, it requires considerably less. An AoE Weaponskill off a mob, pulling hate, or any number of things will get you that 1 TP a lot of sams sacrifice too much for.

If you can stomach it, go hunt some Okotes, Keep your haub(It's old I know, but it's also the best peice you're going to get HQ is key too). That answers your main question, and I will impart on you a couple of options. But keep in mind, everythign for sam is extremely easy, it just takes time.

Head:
- Shura Zunari Kabuto, good for weaponskill, decent for TP.
- Askar Zuchetto, pretty tiem intensive to get, but with people spamming floor 100 for Nyzule weapons, it's not too out of reach, keep your hear to the gorund and somethign should pop up eventually.
- Ace's Helm, relatively difficult to get, in my opinion the best head for Sam period. I will prolly get burned for this, but I use it for WS and TP, the difference is 1 Str in exchange for 1 slot in my inventory, 4% haste, and 2 accuracy.

Other options could be upgraded AF1 helm. 5 Str w/out the accuracy, but I was also told I was gimp by a douche using a Wyvern helm. Also a good(and aesthetically pleasing) option also 5 Str sans accuracy. Turb Turban is viable for any melee job, haste is an odd beast, it's gains are always positive, and it's really hard to beat. And if you're always missing, there's ye old Op.Hat...

Neck Justice over all, followed by a chiv chain, or peacock charm. Weaponskill in one of the sea torques, some people find em usefull/effective. Before I tossed mine, I didn't see anything noticeable...

Ears: Brutal is 100% needed, for the other ear, I suggest obviously a Bushinomimi, but if you have other earrings, you can get an Attack +6 Earring, Fowling Earring, or Minuet Earring, and you'd barely notice any difference between any of them...

Body: HQ haub 100% of the time. If you're lucky enough to get Askar Korazin, use that. Domaru is a no-no. Even a Byrnie+1 could be a decent option. There's other gear too, but those are probably your best options over all.

Hands: Depends on a lot of things, generally, the math leans towards O.Kotes in most cases. I sold my Disk for the final part of my Relic Great Katana abou tthe same time I got Askar Hands, and dependin on a couple things I could actually use a "Crit Build" which Askar are really good for. Dusk are really nice, but walking slow is probably one of the most annoying things in this game period... Alky Bracelets are fine, but Goign with Af1+1 hands are like getting a 13 dex boost for 4 Str. I think that's a decent trade off, it's almost 10 Accuracy. (-6 dex on Alky to +7 dex on Af = 13 difference.)

Rings: Accuracy, Dex or Str. Generally you want to use accuracy over all, and Str for Weaponskill, but there's enough flexibility in general to use other options. Rajas is nice, if not the best option. 2x 7 acc rings would be best.

Back: duh, there's liek 2 mantles... Foragers, and Amemet's +1. Sure there's other things like Cerberus mantle or Smilodon Mantle or whatever, but Forager's is liklye your absolute best bet at this time.

Waist: Swift/Velocious/Speed Belt. anything else is ok. Life Belt, Potent Belt, etc... If you had to do it from the AH, just snag a Potent Belt and you got not only your TP belt, but your Weaponskill belt too. If you're comfortable with your Weaponskill accuracy, you could brave a warewolf belt.

Legs: Byakko's Haidate, only. Try to get em, they're rediculously good. Shura Haidate For Weaponskill. There are some other options for Weaponskill gear, there's some Sam/Mnk Pants with 5 Str/Vit, the Aishu Tailif "Assault" wiht the captain and his monky, those pants are spiffy(and a decent sub for B.haidate if those are impossible to get), Slavage pants are good. And if you're Supremely lucky, the new Str+10/Attack +5 pants from ZNM are the best you can get.

Feet: Usukane > All... Other options are Hachiman Feet, Amir Boots, AF2 Feet(especially for a dex/crit build), or FUma Sune-Ate. I think Fuma's Would be best. Weaponskill in Rutters. They're suprisingly easy to get.

Weapons: Hagun is your best option. The last couple updates make other options not so horrible, but you really dont' get much better than hagun. Onimaru is nice, it picks up some of the slack on the DPS end of things, there's a spiffy Crit+6% one that's good due to speed, but if you're going that route, grab a Soborro(you shouldn't have gotten to 51 or above w/out one...) There's another new one that drops off the ZNM that has an easily looked over DPS. It's a reallly fast Great Katana, with a reaaaaaallllly long name.

That's pretty much it. Sams are fun, I never feel like I do any damage on the job personally, but I look at the parsers and see otherwise =\ I don't a few different settups, But the changes are so marginal between pieces, but when they add up they're noticable. So you can skimp out on one or two things, but if you go beyond that you're start to slide.

Haste: Turban, Peacock Charm, Brutal, Fowling, Haub+1, Dusk Gloves, Rajas, Sniper Ring, Forager's Mantle, Swift Belt, Byakko's Hadate, and Fuma Sune-Ate. That's a relatively good build you can get on the cheap and fill in other pices as you get them.

Attack: Turban, Chiv Chain, Merman's Earring, Brutal, Haub +1, O.Kote, Rajas, Sniper, Foragers, Sword Belt+1, Byakko's, Af2 Feet.

Accuracy: Op.Hat, Peacock Charm, Fowling, Brutal, Haub+1, Af1+1, Sniper, Sniper, Foragers, Life Belt, Byakko's Haidate, Amir Boots.

The consistant pieces as you see are Byakko's Hadate, Haub +1, Snpier Ring, Brutal earring, get those, and the other shit should fall in your inventory along the way.

hands; o.kote, h.kote, usukane gote, a.braclets
Head - Until you get an Ace's helm. I recommend TPing w/ W Turban and WSing in a Wyvern helm
Hands - TP w/ Dusk gloves and WS w/ either Pallas Bracelets, Alky Bracelets, or Myochin Kote +1

Once you get to 75 you want to cap store tp merits and then have +11 store tp total gear wise so you can do the 6 hit WS. You can obtain that through an assortment of the Hachiman gear, Brutal earring, rajas ring, Askar Body, usukane sune-ate, and chiv chain. Thats the main focus at first. So set your gear to do that at first. I use Rajas Ring, Hachiman Feet, and Brutal Earring for my +11 store tp.

Good advice in this thread.

Phraust, what do you think out performs in WS; Alky or O.Kote? I've been swapping between the two and can't really find a noticeable difference.

Only thing I can add is please don't wear a Hachiman Domaru on SAM, Hauby only at the least.

Switching out single items is likely to provide so small a change that it can't be noticed individually. The difference shows when you use several slightly better items for an improved effect overall. If you've perfected the rest of your build, and only have one more choice to make, it probably doesn't really matter which you choose; you won't be able to see the difference without a lot of parsing, and it's very likely that the results will differ depending on what it is you're fighting at a given moment.

OP: Don't be afraid of using some Hachiman here and there. Like has been said earlier, the only pieces which are truly useful are the feet and hands, and only to get you to a six-hit build. Once you've merited Store TP fully, you should be able to ween yourself off of at least one of these. Eventually you can get rid of both, but that's after a lot of time and effort into some of the sets that people have mentioned above.

The road to perfect gear is a long and likely never-ending, if Squeenix knows how to make their money. Don't be afraid to upgrade piece by piece. I know I'm far from having exceptional gear for SAM, but I'm working at it, and I try to use what I have to the best of my ability.

Well I guess I should post what I am currently using. Please feel free to offer advice.

Head I have Optical hat and at 75 waiting the haste turben. I was looking at the Shura too guess I have an addition to my wishlist in Sky now. I am atm using the Fourth Division Haube. And I have considered the Hachiman Jinpachi

Neck I currently use Chiv chain.

Ears I have atm one minuet earring and one Merman's Earring, I need to get back into Limbus more and save up for Brutal.

Ammo I have been using Tiphia Sting for quite awhile now.

Body Its been harby for me since I could equip it, a +1 would be nice but a little out of my price range atm Askar Korazin looks great I really need to get into a Nysul group.

Hands I was using Horomusha Kote for ages then experimented with the Fourth Division Hentzes (with other forth pieces too) I am atm trying the Hachiman Kote and am interested in the O.Kotes.

Rings I have Ragas in one and Ulthalam's Ring in the other

Back Amemet's +1 been with me through a few DD jobs I have

Waist Potent Belt.

Legs Currently using Fourth Schoss. Byakko's Haidate would be very very nice, I would like to obtain those at a future date.

Feet In Hachiman feet atm I have amir boots waiting at 72, Rutters I really need to do that NM someday. Fuma Sune-Ate look very nice too.

Weapons: "Hagun is your best option" I've known this a long time since I was in my early Sam stages and maybe someday I can find the gil to get one but for now I'm using my Soboro Sukehiro, helping many friends gain that weapon made me very happy when I finally got my own. The Onimaru does look nice too though.

Thank you all for the good advice I found this has helped me alot and I hope to continually tweak my gear to meet the challenges ahead. :)

askar, usukane and merits
Ok, so there is no "rich man's" 6-hit gear then. Since you can't buy any of those, and instead have to spend a lot of time and rely on some heavy luck; hachiman's isn't the "poor man's" anything.

If you don't have a nyzul group up to floor 80 yet, or if you don't do salvage or if you have shit for drops(like I've had), then hachiman feet are the only option for a 6-hit build.

yes it requires a group, time and luck. But the items (i.e. food, ammo, ninjitsu tools, medicine, not to mention exp) are going to cost alot more then 40k for some half-wit boots.

i'm not saying dont use them by all means do.

Not necessarily. You could get lucky as hell and be have barely spent anything. You can't really compare the monetary cost of a rare/ex item vs something you can just buy; unless you can buy the same item.

It took me a looong time to realize no Hachiman Body. I did used to macro it in for WS accy a long time ago; possibly /rng

I don't have any of the super uber gear but I get by. Most things are situational but a typical 6-hit for me with 3 Store TP merits:

TP gear
Main: Soboro Sukehiro
Grip: Plat.+1
Head: Saotome Kabuto
Neck: Chivalrous Chain (I need that +1 store tp at the moment)
Body: Hauby
Legs: Shinimusha Haidate
Hands: Hachiman Kote
Feet: either Saotome or Suzaku's whichever I felt like
Ear: Bushinomimi (YEAH went full sam, no suppa here)
Ear: Fowling
Rings: both Ruby (I have sniper/woodman for mnk but not needed here)
waist: Warwolf (waits for laughter... I'm a str whore) Sometimes Lifebelt
back: Amemet (not +1 yet)

WS gear (Swapped in items)
Head: Wyvern Helm
Hands: Pallas's Braclets
Legs: Shura Haidate
Body: K.Osode
Ring: n/a already have str gear on
Ring: n/a already have str gear on
Belt: n/a already have str gear on

I listed ring ring belt in WS gear because those six items are the ones I usually swap out for ws on most of my jobs and that seems like a habit. Sometimes, I'd swapp PCC for Chiv. for the WS then back.

Not the best gear but you can see the type of items and attributes you might look for. There are a lot of choices there and I mix up my gear to some other items like O.hat, or PCC depending on subjobs. When I go /war/nin/dnc/thf that's typically my setup(the G.katana changes depending on subs too). When I /bst/rng I have very very different setups.

Congratulations on teh 70+ sam range. It's been a very fun job for me and I hope for you too.

You're TPing in STR rings, the level 50 JSE legs, and suzaku's legs? Do you not have a Raja's ring?

Twice the attack, which is more useful than lolSTR while meleeing? Plus if you care about that kind of thing, no -20 evasion/-5 AGI when you pull hate.

Hauby is better overall, since it's the best for weapon skills too, but Togi is far from useless for TPing.

hauby: 13~14 acc/att, 5STR 5DEX
togi: 10 acc, 20att

1.5~2% hitrate increase from hauby plus a moderate amount of STR (far from lol -- you need to melee in some STR due to the nature of fSTR) vs. 6~7 attack; this difference is greater when you use an HQ hauby.

togi is useless for SAM.
