Halo: Reach

Forgot all about this!?! Need to pick it up, I know I won't play it when FFXIV comes out though...

i picked mine up at midnight..played for bout 3hrs when i got home. so far im likin campaign.

Campaign has been fun so far, I'm starting on Heroic for the little thingy.

just completed campaign on legendary!
Hell of a fun time!! There were many things that just come out of nowhere and everyone i was with said DAMN!!! at the same time.
I played alot of match making lastnight as well, and while i was disappointed in the beta, they have fixed everything i didnt like for retail. And i asked my friend his opinon, Has halo made a comeback? Well for us, it has!
I found halo 3 online just boring after awhile, and dreadful to think about playing. I assumed this would end up being much of the same, but its not, its a great time and a fun game. It takes me back to how halo 2 felt!
It saddens me to know that bungie is done with halo now and im scared to see what 343 is going to do with the series, but damn...halo is back!

Story gripe. That's all I care about in Halo.

Spoiler:
Terrible way for Bungie to make their exit... They build up this huge world and instead of ending it we get "oh, yeah, Cortana is important guys" which, we already fuckin' knew and "Reach falls" which we already knew. Piece of shit storyline and I guess it's more my fault for expecting more from them, given consideration to who they tailor their games to.

I hate to say it, but I preferred ODST.

I'll probably end up buyin' the game for SWAT now that the BR isn't the starting main. That's the best decision they've made in the entire series, to have a weapon with bloom being the starting weapon of SWAT.

i was under the assumption everyone already knew how this game would end?
i mean you already know all the details from the previous games and books, the story was exactly as i expected and did not fail to delight. I dont see why they should throw something major in that would just be contradicting to the story in order to make it a better game experience for the lower percentage that didnt know what to expect.
I loved it, i got to see how it all went down instead of imagining it!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it was bad. I just think it was the worst possible way to end a series is with a prequel, especially one where so much is already known. I figured Bungie knew this too and I was looking for a surprise that never came.

Wooo weee though, no shitty BR main in SWAT so scrubs can play and my pistole~ is back. I'm okay.

:O

I keep hearing about it in my classes about how awesome this game is. Slowly, I'm feeling like I should get a 360 hmm

It's not something I would buy a 360 for, but it's not bad either. It's definitely well above Halo 3 (gameplay) and I can't speak for the main MP portions with the "perks" and what not but the MP I play feels a lot more like Halo C.E. (the best of them all), unfortunately though... no mouse D:

It's not the game that makes me want the 360 more, it's more the combination of games that are 360 only :P

Lost Odyssey
Halo games
Fable games
etc.

God they seem to have cranked up the difficulty on Legendary... I can just pump sniper bullets and DRM Bullets in the the back of a Hunter and they just wont go down.

3 snipers shots, ~12 DRM hits and 2 close range shotgun blasts to the dead center of the Hunters back and he finnally went down.

yeah i admit i was awaiting some sort of big surprise myself, something unexpected. I mean we know chief is on a mission at the time of reach, yet he is never mentioned really and i thought he would at least make an appearance. But once i saw the pillar of autumn and realized i was already nearing the end, i kinda of knew he wouldnt be there since he doesnt board the autumn until halo 1.
The other things that bother me is, supposedly this Noble team, more specifically noble 6 are the reason that the victories in the next three installments that happened, but...in those games its like they never even existed and you never hear about them.
Its like star wars all over again, if these people were so big and important, why does it take a prequel for them to even exist in the story world?

i did love the story, and i did feel that bit of sadness for the anti climatic ending.

But yes, multi-player is back! i loved halo CE, its what i played until i could afford an xbox, and i loved halo 1 and 2, but felt bored and stale in halo 3, reach takes us back to what was good about the games without making it feel old and out dated.

My only problem with the MP is they fuckin' crammed SWAT into the Slayer modes. I can't believe they kept that retarded idea in that I shouldn't be able to play what I want, when I want. Since the majority of times people pick SWAT I see them pulling it out on its own real soon, but it just makes no sense in there as is.

I've had my share of penalties though. I played one standard affair and jesus christ, I don't see how that's one bit enjoyable to anyone. Whoever thought that people should be able to take even more damage needs to be a "state secret" if you know what I mean.

The multi team SWAT is insane. Now that was a good idea. You'll run a lower K/D but it's about as close to frenetic as Halo could even dream of being. The only problem here is they need to tighten up the spawns, and I'm sure this goes for every gametype in this playlist. Most of the times I died is from the game deciding spawning someone right behind me was a good idea.

Wasn't Master Chief in cryostasis onboard the Pillar of Autumn? I'm fairly certain the very end of Reach is the very beginning of Halo 1.

As far as Noble team not being mentioned:

Unsung Heros. The team made the impact required for success in the next three installments.

Think of it like this. Say there is a nuclear bomb somewhere in the country that would kill millions of people. A team of Navy SEALS disables the bomb, but die in the process, and all the media says is "Bomb successfully disabled" without mention of who did it.

We would feel the effects of the bomb being disarmed (I.E. Not dead) but would we be able to acknowledge the ones that did it if we didn't KNOW they did it?

That doesn't work. There were people with knowledge of Noble Team that made it out of Reach alive, as is obvious by the humans having any military force at all at that point, and the fact that a certain A.I. reached a certain destination. There should have been fuckin' statues and prayers to this team but Bungie pulled a fast one on base lore (within the games at least) with what happened at Reach.

But the ones that survived were on the Pillar of Autumn, which subsequently crashes and leaves few survivors. Even with the people that did know, especially being military, mass praise isn't likely due to the fact that they would be viewed as "doing their duty".

EDIT: Most of the survivors with knowledge of Noble company were on the PoA. There were those civilian transports and such, but that really can't count towards the awareness of Noble.

Good points, but also, Though A.I., Cortana has seemingly human functionality in terms of output. She picked Noble, therefore knew of them and could have easily passed word or made mention of them at various points, especially to Chief. I withdraw the whole "that doesn't work", because it does, however, it could have easily been the other way. I had forgotten the fate of the PoA honestly, I need to boot up some C.E. I guess. Actually, part of 3 still has me on the whole "this was fast one". At the end when the victory speech and memorializing is goin' on, that would have been another opportunity for them to slip in something (even just a Noble Team cut in the rock) about them, even if they were just doin' their duty, like everyone else.

Spoiler tags so as not to kill things for people like Elemmire that are late to the show!

Spoiler:
Personally If I had done it, I would have made Chief completely aware of Noble Team, and that aware to the player, since he is a Spartan after all. I would have referred back to them very subtly until the end of 3 by little thing like Chief honoring an etched "N" in his suit or something. Or I would have played Chief's ridiculous successions as him having 6 ghosts, which could be a running gag or deep, take your pick. The best thing though, he should have said right out of the shoot in 1, "Noble you got us here, rest easy, I'll take care of the rest" something corny like that. I probably would have went overboard though as well, changing Jorge's fate and having him "converted" into an Elite for a nasty final/pre-final boss since it just fits that the Covenant tech, through plot armor, that certain corvette's complete destruction could have been avoidable.

So uh, what happened to Jun again?

No I know that, but don't they constantly refer to the Chief as 'The last remaining spartan', even in halo C.E? So what happens to Jun. I read the books a long time ago but I don't remember. And what about the other Spartan in Cryo at the beginning of Halo C.E.? Or was that just their because of Co-op and an Oops in the story line?
