Help me settle a brd disagreement

While dalmatica does not play to BRD's abilities, it is quite useful in many endgame situations. BRD isn't just a singer, they are a support job. The extra Erase, ~na spells and curaga IIs from bards shouldn't be overlooked, as that support can win a fight, or help make hate management a lot more stable. As in exp, brds rarely get to rest, and they can't have ballad on them all the time (I'm sure you knew that already, but...). Also, when comparing Dalm to V.Cloak... dalm allows bard to wear their hat, which allows them to have refresh on all the time.

The dalm bards I know have no decrease in performance when it comes to landing elegy, so obviously they aren't hurting their job by losing that potential 10CHR. AND even if it were an issue, offensive songs cast very quickly so you could easily macro in another piece for the offensive song nad than go back to dalm for buffs and curing. in short, dalm is a very good piece for brd, probably the best in the game for endurance fights. I don't understand why people were saying otherwise.

to OP: Osode does benifit brd, but there are many alternatives as you pointed out... and most are generally considered better. It wouldn't hurt to put them over the everyone else category i guess, but... they probably shouldn't be first in line.

He was talking about better pieces by priority. I understand the applications you're talking about and I agree with you in those instances, but it is exactly as I said: utilizing the bard's sub more than the bard's main, which, yes in certain circumstances is necessary. I can think of much better uses of a dalmatica than for a bard is the point I was trying to make, just as the same can be said for osode.

As far as in exp, with a mage worth their salt, and with me doing my job correctly, I don't need a refresh effect more than ballad. A good bard can manage their mp in an exp situation just as well as a mage main.

So yeah, I guess dalmatica if you have problems somehow keeping your mp up as bard, but... I've yet to have that problem and I've never had a dalmatica.

I dont know how Brds keep saying dalmatica isnt good for them yet sing the praises about the +30MP on osode. dalmatica has +50 mp and refresh. surely the loss of 10 CHR when every brd piece gives massive CHR cannot be that major.

they say it cause they don't truly understand how the job works.

Hmmm. I don't hear anyone saying Dalmatica isn't good for them. I see people saying there are pieces better suited/prioritized for bard. And there are in my opinion.

Who knows, maybe someday I'll try Dalmatica on bard and decide I'd never have anything else. But for right now, I have never used one. And I've yet to hear anything but compliments on how I play the job.

Regarding osode's +30 mp, no it's not earthshattering. I mentioned it in my post above only because it is one of the tiny bonuses osode has over errant. And anyone who thinks 30 mp should be the reason why osode should go to a bard over any other job, frankly, is an idiot.

If you want a feel for what Dalmatica is like on BRD, try a Vermy. It's one of those things that you don't really feel the need for when you don't have one, but which you find ways to benefit from when you *do* have one. (It's not really an exp item though, it's handier for, say, Dynamis or Assault or Limbus. Or certain HNMs. Times when you're in more of a support role.)

And then to know what Dalmatica is like, take your impression of Vermy and add 40 MP and remove the nuisance of losing the head slot.

Rng - Best body piece available to them.

Bst - 10 CHR good for charms.

Sam - Good for ws's when /thf.

War - Same as sam, but when do they ever sub thf for HNM or anything any more?

Nin/Mnk - There's better pieces for everything that are cheaper/easier to get.

Brd - It's better than errant. If you're pulling so much hate that 5 enmity is an issue, you're better off with higher def and 17 more VIT.

Apart from rng, I don't see why any job fights for priority for it. But then again I don't see why people fight over relic pieces that are completely and utterly useless.

Oh right, I forgot. It's good for MNK for Chi Blasting. So to me, rng > mnk > all. There, I think that covers it imho.

when i'm playing brd, the only times i don't have my dalmatica on are when i'm debuffing (minstrel's coat), or meriting (manteel).

the -casting time from manteel alone is not enough to warrant me to use it while casting buffs for HNM's or other end-game events, and there are so many other gear swapping options available in other slots besides body to not need errant.

during events i'm constantly using my MP pool, and while the the extra refresh and the MP isn't a matter of life or death in most cases, it is very useful.

If you're playing support bard, why would you want less refresh and mp if you can hit 100+ chr on brd w/o a body piece already?

I highly doubt that wind skill +3 is more effective for debuffing than the other 10CHR options.

If you're already breaking 100 CHR it probably does make more of a difference. Especially when paired with brd merits and relic...

there was a test done with results posted on KI by casting lullaby on the dolls in front of the main entrance to the shrine. The sample was rather large and the only variable was CHR. The results showed diminishing results after around 100 total CHR in regards to resist rates, which also included partial resists. You can easily get 100 CHR from other gear options that don't offer wind/singing skill.

While others who have difficulty debuffing HNM's such as Tiamat, Jormungand, Nidhogg, Fafnir, etc., I'm barely resisted if at all with 102 CHR and 266 wind/ 266 singing.

I can't imagine the return of 10 CHR being diminished so much that it makes the use of a 3skill piece viable.

stacking chr is so 2005 ('~'

Like everyjob there is situational gear for everything you do.

The 30MP is nice from osode, but not compared to dalmy. However, let's keep in mind dalmy isn't easy to obtain.

I guess you could go get a v.cloak or anything, but let explain a possible alteritive and maybe give osodebrds some support:

Try out Turban + Osode. The 60mp gained, and 5% haste help tons with cures and other healing magic. This combo is very nice for dynamis, the only thing I could think of better is dalmy + Turban, but again, I dalmy isn't easy to obtain.

Remember that you should always have these gears into macros, and NEVER wear them full time. For HNM you should have the Turban+ Errant for when casting healing magic, the -emnity does add up in the long run.

I'm not going to make a long post and discuss what I think are best for other situations as far as BRD gear goes. But yes, Osode does work extremely well for BRDs, the MP is found in few other gears, and the availibility to equip headgear is good.

I really don't want to shell out alot of gil for V/R.clock so I use my Turban + Osode combo mainly in dynamis. So there you go, OP, in defense to BRD for Osode, it's like others have said, a pulling peice, and a dynamis peice, and only an expensive v.cloak, and a rare dalmy can replace it. There is NO reason for errant body in dynamis.

I never understood why people say "Gears" in relation to items. "Gear" when used in that relation is already a plural word, since it's talking about multiple pieces of equipment.

btw, theres this thing. It's called a macro.

Gears means equipment items, when just say "items" you are talking other things just besides equipment, such as meds and materials, it specifies what are you talking about.

Gears is something you would find in machines, where gear refuring to equipment is called gear when plural.

Calling it 'gears' is more of LONG running joke between tons of people across all games. It's kinda like saying 'lolz'

Gear means equipment, such as clothing or tools, used to perform an activty. That would include armor, weapons, meds, and materials.

Regadless, adding the "s" is unnecessary.
