The problem I have is not an influx of immigration or the resulting increase of unemployment, it's simply that very often illegal immigrants don't pay taxes.
Why this is a problem? Besides the fact we're losing so much money.
Well let's say we are in competition. My restaurant hires legal workers, immigrants or not, doesn't matter. Your restaurant hires illegals. By paying them under minimum wage and by paying them under the table, you have a clear advantage over me, forcing me to either go out of business or lower my wages.
For this reason those "shitty jobs" as they're called that are dominated by illegals are made low paying. They aren't low paying because nobody wants to do them. They're low paying because anyone CAN do them. The result is anyone in those fields has to compete with people who don't obey our laws therefore have a clear advantage.
I'm all for immigration population control limits, but people here working illegally make life hell basically for less educated workers who have to compete with them while obeying the laws. It's not like doctors and lawyers have to compete with them, but people in jobs that don't require much education do.
Who we really should go after is not the immigrants but the companies who break the law using them and run honest companies out of business. As for illegals who make at least minimum wage and somehow pay taxes(sorry if I have to doubt that), I've got no qualms. I think our economy can more than support them and it motivates natural born citizens to seek higher education.
