Is raising prices of items that bad !?

Ok, I don't like price jacking at all.....and although I don't like it, I can 'understand' it. You're just trying to never take a loss basically.

I'm not sure why you'd bother levelling a craft though if you're worried about losing money. Losing 50 mil or whatever insane amount of money and only getting back a little at a time would still take a crazy amount of time to achieve to break even. So you should be making money somehow in the craft. Just look at how much of a hit Svina took before being able to craft snipers perfectly.

Also, if someone is price jacking the item, how come someone just doesn't do the opposite? Why doesn't someone just take their piece and resell it at like 100k below what he's jacking it up to?

Bottom line is what they've said...if you don't like the price, you can wait it out. But I don't see why some people just don't fight back. Why? Because after you get your item, you could care less about the people after you since the price jackers are going to help you when you have to resell it.

If you can jack a price up, I'm pretty sure you can try to jack it down. And there's too much of the word jacking in this post.

As someone above stated I don't have a problem with crafters trying to recoup their costs on NQ as long as the prices on HQ come down some. I may be wrong (30 is my highest craft so I'm definitely a crafting noob) but isn't that why HQ's are so high generally speaking...because crafters are making up for what they've lost on the NQ?

It's moreso the slimmer chance of getting the HQ; NQ is a nearly guaranteed synth whereas HQ is possible in small(er) percentages. If the cost of mats raise, the price of NQ will raise. If cost of NQ raises, cost of HQ raises as well due to the same small chance of actually synthing it.

Although, there are a few cases where the HQ#1 is cheaper than the NQ. Look at any upgrade CP items; RK Belt, Tactician Magician's Espadon, CC Boomerang, etc. NQ is purchased with X CP, sells for price A. HQ1 is synthed, sells for less than price A. HQ2 though, that's usually at least double price A.

Those aren't HQ1's though, they're NQ synths. That's like saying HQ coeurl hide costs less than a normal coeurl hide, and it's a HQ of the same thing.

Yep what ^ said. Example.

CC Boomerang +1

The synth is CC Boomerang + Mythril ingot if my memory serves me right.

NQ= CC Boomerang +1
HQ= CC Boomerang +2

Correct, but it's listed on AH as Item+1 / Item+2. That was what I meant by "HQ1 is synthed" etc etc... should've clarified that in my post, my bad. Thanks for adding those details.

12k a stack for copper ingots, and you only need 1. That means 1k each.

Darksteel ore is 30k? Two of them, 8k for iron ore and a few crystals, and you have 68k per chain, and you are sitting on the 31 tier, so you can HQ these more than you fail.

Again, Darksteel ore is 30k plus 3k in materials/crystals to make a sheet. There is no HQ on these, so I'll give you 40k as a fair price.

If you are paying more than 3k a pop for sheep leather and are looking for a supplier I'm sure a few hundred people would jump. These sell for 30k per stack tops.

That puts your cost at around 110k cost per celata. Assuming you don't make one at a time, you can cram all your travel time together, you can make 9 at once for less than 1M and less than an hour's work. That's 170k profit for an hour of crafting, without even HQ'ing. You're on the 11 tier for celeta, so chances are you'll HQ one if you craft at a good time and make 9. Don't quote misleading numbers to make people think you're losing your shirt here.

Back on the subject of "is it right?" If you can sell them for that price, and make a profit, go for it. If your profits become so huge on the synth, eventually someone will notice, and move in on your territory. They'll undercut, you'll undercut, and trying to drive each other away will take away from the profits of both of you. If you can go without this happening, it means you've jacked the price up a fair amount, and it's not worth someone else's time to fight with your for this sale.

Here's the kicker though. By making a NQ synth break even at artisan level smithing, you're just welcoming competition. People are gonna start leveling on the synth, and this will flood the market. You won't be able to sustain the price once people that can skill at that level realize what the price is.

If you would have read carefully. You would have noticed I said I only have 30 mins or so to play per day with the arrival of my 3 new children. I don't have time to run around looking for best prices an makeing ingots and then sheeting them. And where the fuck did you get iron ingots! clearly no where did I say anything about iron ingots.
Also I gave you prices based on single materils which came out to 150 K per celata! But you obviously selectivly ignored that too!

Yeah, your price of singles was more than the price of the stacks, that's where you math is obviously wrong and you're making up numbers to try to justify you jacking up prices.

Yoshindor, I hope you don't ever complain about Calbrone raising the Siren's hair price after this topic.

Go MPK more people in Dynamis with Perigrine.

Who MPK's people in Dynamis! thats just low!

Second Raisieing the price of synth material is way diffrent from raising the price of a crafted item.

A. I'm not trying to justify anything.

B. Why do you even care?

C. Why do you continue to whine about it?

D. go check the price per stack and per single of materils, you'll find I''m not makeing any money!

If people pay the price he is asking, then thats what the item is worth.

and on a side note, this thread is hilarious since yoshindor was the one bitching about people raising prices before in the flameboard. hahaha. oh well.. if you cant beat them, join them i guess eh yosh?

I didn't want this to turn into a flame but the trolls like yourself came out it seems.

Show me this thread.

I didn't read all of this because I don't care. I do what works for me when I sell my items...

However, regarding undercutting, when there are more than a few of an item up for sale, you've got competition. You pay the AH tax, and it's entirely up to you how you'd like to stage that item. BTW - what's wrong with undercutters? I like them. I bid low too, and sometimes I get stuff for cheaper than anticipated. Undercutting by 1 gil does nothing. Undercutting by too much just sucks.

I undercut for two reasons only:
1. Lots of competition.
2. Lots of items that need to be moved before I can gather more.

When there is a lot of competition, the market will start to dip without you undercutting. That is the natural flow. Other people experience numbers 1 and 2 as well. They want to move their items and get on with their lives...How much I undercut is determined by how much competition I have, versus how quickly I need to get rid of that item.

It doesn't lower the economy...Then again, that's not what I'm trying to do. I'm just trying to sell quick, so I can then sell more stuff quick. Sitting on a stack of crystals that you want 6k for, so you charge 5,999 won't sell with 80 other stacks for sale. You're just have a terrible business sense if you don't get it.

So what's wrong with undercutting, a.k.a. healthy competition, again?
I'm not sure I understand.

I think the consensus is people hate undercutting if they're competing with you. And they hate you jacking up the price if they are needing the item. They like the price gougers if they're helping you sell your item at a higher price but hate you if you undercutted them. However, they love you if they're the ones that buy your stuff at undercut prices.

It seems it depends what side of the fence you are on for the day.

Just to save some time. I'll admit I can probably be proven to change sides of the fence from time to time.

lol, I got that, but it's been too long.
I can't take the Frenchy any further.

But yeah, we all win some and lose some at the AH.
Undercutting too much and price jacking too much, either way it sucks.

I usually undercut alot if its a one time item I just want to get rid of, if its something I craft I usually undercut by maybe 1k dependiong on the item just to move items through quicker.

Well, I'm certainly glad mine came back from the AH twice after not selling @ 25k and 35k respectively. I just realized I still need it.

Curious, whats the new cost of HQ? The sales were fairly sparse last time I looked, ranging from 200-400k over a span of 5 months or so.
