its official, rng was nerfed.

EXP it may get kind of close I'll agree if the RNG isn't afraid to SS>Barrage>SS or get a little risky it may get close. However, move that over to end game mobs. Can't touch us with a stick.

Thats where the problem with ANY nonRNG DD lays. The stuff just isn't set up to be friendly toward anyone but Rangers and Blackmages, which is a big problem.

Kiting needs to be eliminated. Period. SE needs to retune mobs.
Defense and Ranged Defense needs to be similiar.

That would fix every problem in the world.

But again, thats just a matter of opinion(about RNG being better against end game.)

Assuming I get invited everytime I'm ready to Chi Blast, I'm sure I'd do similiar damage, since I could easily break 1600/3minutes on Kirin if I were fully Etuded, Ranger atleast didn't have to worry about theirs song buffs becoming weaker over time.

You'd be lying to yourself to actually believe they didn't.

Actually, I wouldn't. Unless they were coming from RNG/WAR, but you don't exactly see many of those flying around at 75.

Ask Reality there is a reason you don't :p I've never been out damaged by anyone in any party at any time on any mob (I never fought Skeles and this excludes RNG cannons). I'm sure most RNG's are that way so I don't see your point holding true on a parsar.
I almost always parse my parties on monk, because I like to see how I'm comparing to the other DD. In all parties with a rng, unless they spammed sidewinder, our damage was usually less than 200 off from each other. Certain fights tipped the scales one way or another, like when my food wore off during the fight and I didn't notice or when I had berserk and focus up at the same time.

Even after 55, I was still close to rng's in terms of damage, again less than 200 points off a fight; the difference was that my damage was spread out between 2-5 attacks while they did it all in 1 shot each attack round.

If the Ranger was using Acid Bolts, You can add about 300-400 points from each melee to the Ranger's damage per fight.

IF they did this they should also give us free ammo or something. Us paying the price to be like the rest or outdone is not acceptable. You want to Lv us out that's cool but even is even and the nerf isn't even.

They were all using a bow or a gun, since apparently all the xbow's suck from 50-60.

I'm not talking about making a Great Axe swing do as much as a Ranger with a Hellfire+1 and Silver Bullets. But Melee damage against those encounters is really not worthwhile, and without thief sub, good luck getting weaponskills to not look embaressing.

There is a reason people stacked rangers. The reason shouldn't have existed in the first place. There was imbalance, you cannot deny it. 1 Job shouldn't be so influential when it comes to the time it takes to bring a mob down.

Well then that would explain it. It isn't until the 60's Rangers are able to equip better Ranged Attack/Accuracy Items.

The good rangers are not the ones who are complaining. They are the ones figuring out how to adjust.

adjust to our damage being nerfed? so every time we pull hate, we get a 50% damage penalty?

adjust to paying 16k-18k a stack of demon arrows to be outdamaged by other melee...

any fucking ranger can adjust to the nerf.. its not fucking hard to find the sweet spot... but seriously.. shut the fuck up already

SE could of balanced ranger way better then this... SE fucked us solo wise (a levle 60 drk killed a gobbue in zitah faster then me, and i used more bloody bolts)

So I get to pay gil to be outdamaged by melee
and i get to pay even more gil then i already did to farm... and im a ranger.... wow thats smart

SE could of just made our job trait range attack only, given us E- in all melee weapons, and lower the damage of range attacks.. as simple as that
I still don't see why every rng HAS to pull hate all the time. There's a ton of rng's who don't know how to restrain themselves and end up tanking all the time. The good rng's that I've partied with only pulled hate from weapon skills or maybe barrage, since they knew about hate management. This update just means that you have to stand further back, that's fine. But it also means for those rng's who do nothing but spam sidewinder that it will be a lot easier to get hate off of them, since they won't be doing such huge damage when they have hate.

You're still the best damage dealers, just not up close, where you never should have been in the first place. All the rng's were up close using a ranged attack, defeating the whole purpose of giving them ranged abilities. Your job obviously needed some kind of nerf, it's just no one was expecting it to be this big.

Edit: oh, and melee DD was capable of matching a rng's damage before the change. So it's not like it's the end of the world because someone can do as much as you.

fyi the last thing i said is what SE should of done.. i wasnt trying to be sarcastic

I see your points Skaw. You don't like seeing mobs being kited. It comes from you lving a non spell casting and rng atacking job. We will never agree on this angle. However, let me get your opinion on this though. What's the point of making a mob easier so you can just use the ol' "beat er down" strat? Ya, it's more fun but if every mob in the game was fought with this method to cater to the normal melee dd's where is the strategy? Any new mobs forget thinking just beat it down, Kirin pfft lets waste him in 15 min by just beating him down. You can't even do that in WOW but every job has something different to contribute to the monsters equally. New job abilities for the win so why take the strategy out of a game ?

Shh, let them think their huge burst numbers actually meant something in the long run.

People like you cant seem to get it through your head that SE could of done this differnt and get the same desired effect

I dont care if the damage was close preupdate... but post update.. rng just plain sucks..would you want to pay 16-18k a stack of arrows to do less damage then other melee jobs?

Pretty much all the rangers would be happy if they just lowered damage of range attack and make us incapable of melee.. sure people would still complain.. but if they made ranger justa tad bit better then other jobs.. im sure people wouldnt be as pissed.. i know i wouldnt

instead... they take away our ability to solo and make us do less damage while we spend 16k-18k on ammo... lovely

I never said anything about making it easier. Increase it's HP to make up for the fact that it's going to get hit more often.

Kiting in general is just stupid. It shouldn't be needed. And hi. Chi blast. Kiting has nothing to do with being a Monk, but I'm sure it'd make the other DDs EXTREMELY happy since they actually get to DO something instead of feel like they're in the way if the requirement for it was just obliterated.

And you just totally missed the point of the post. I said I never had any problems with Rangers. Just Ranger stacking in the encounters in the game.

Ok so you like the ol' "beat er down" strat. No need to continue on my end.

No, I'd like to see other jobs become just as important as Monk, Ranger, or Black Mage. I'm sorry if your not seeing this, but there ARE 15 jobs in the game. Each one should be just as utilized as the other.

You're just coming off as someone who just doesn't want to give up their all-important spot for someone else.

I gave up my "all important spot" a long time ago to tank or back up tank. Don't make generalizations on my thinking because you are off by a great margin. Things could have been done to accomodate both sides but weren't. However, whats done is done and we must move on. Enough said time for bed. This is like disscusing politics it's a totally biased argument that will never be won by eather side.

Skaw, i really want to try to understand your position on this. You are someone i admire and one could almost say a semi-role model for me as a monk, you have a wide reputation as an asskicker extroardinaire, and can by no means be described as useless in endgame or anywhere else.

I know the power of a monk in 75, and you do have full god set, and i would imagine basically everything a monk would want, black belt excluded, so i take your numbers (mellee, chi blast) for granted as phenomenal. As you said, pre-patch, right up there with rangers.

But what i do not understand is, if you yourself could do as much damage as the "overpowered" rangers.... how can you say monk is not in line for a nerf, nor needs to be? A ranger, who could do X amount of damage, needed to be nerfed, while you (and i) can do same damage but not need a nerf? Is that what you're saying? that is a real question, not a rhetorical one.

You made mention of endgame viability of other mellees vs ranger, and im wondering if this includes mnks. as you stated a monk such as yourself can indeed chi blast kirin for 12-1600 every 3 minutes, so why Would it apply to monks? Thats some pretty nice damage. So shouldnt Mnk take a hit to even the playing field as well? And what about BLM? Their aeroga on kirin frequently tops 800, while slug/side usually hit 500-700.... and blm achieve greater numbers on a burst... sure it can be resisted, and is often, but rangers also miss..... and miss ws's. same diff.

So there we have the top 3. Rng, blm, mnk. Coincidentally, all 3 are the most common Cannon PT jobs, and all hnm ls's stack themselves with as many BLMs as possible, and then as many rngs. But. If only 2 rngs show up to Kirin....But 8 blms show up, kirin still goes down.... If 6 rngs show up, and only 2 blms....... Kirin is cancelled. I have witnessed it. The hierarchy of HNM of all kinds goes BLM>RNG>PLD/NIN. So by what i see you saying, by your theory BLM needed to be nerfed more than rng, and mnk needs to be nerfed next, to give all the other mellees (war drk drg etc) a chance at greater participation. I am not sure if this is what you are getting at, but it is what i gather from your posts here. And coupled with the paradoxical point made about mnk = rng pre patch, confuses me.

The reason i am focusing on your opinion here is that, familiar as i am with your sky ls and the people in it, i would have expected someone who spends so much time standing shoulder to shoulder, fighting alongside some of our servers finest rangers, to be a bit less harsh to those who have contributed a great deal to everyones advancement, not just in the ls but in the game itself. Now granted, they didnt contribute More than anyone else necessarily, but think of what it would have been like without them....would it be a 70% Blm ls? Or would they all still have been there, and the queus would just have taken longer to empty? Considering Haidates drop rate lately, i cant help but wonder how long the line would be. I know very well that everything you have is more than well-earned, but you didnt earn it alone. Being denigrating to rangers (especially considering the OP) was not something i would have expected, and i would be very happy to hear that i am misenterpreting. Some of your posts sound very angry and dismissive to me.

The truth is, this nerf will indeed effect everyone, but consider for a moment a rangers point of view as a human being, not just as a job. You have been playing, and having a great time, for 2 years, always on the same job. By this time, you are lvl 75 and have any number of commitments, responsibilities and priorities that fill up most of your time online. But there are days when no events are scheduled, noone needs help with anything, and nothing interesting is in the works. So you have some things you like to do when you log on, just to pass the time and to have Fun, same as everyone else. Like farming (killing orcs is rediculously fun), or maybe camping a favorite nm you have a grudge against like nussnacker, or eastern shadow. Not on the expectation of any huge money, but because its become a holy crusade. And because its something fun to do to pass the time while you chat with your friends. Maybe you're like alot of other people and like to play ballista! [Ballista] [Incredibly tough]! Its good times, you get to whack your friends, hang out with the guys, and scare tarus. Laughs all around, you win some, you lose some, you own, you get owned. Good times. Or hell, maybe you just like to ride the boat and poke the sea horror, cause he killed you when you were a noob.

These are things that Everyone does, or Can do if they feel like it or if theyre just bored. Heres the catch:

Now, log on one day. Download an update. Discover that not only can you no longer solo Nussnacker (nin thf mnk hell rdm hell even a drk can), you cant even kill his placeholders who rate ep. Eastern shadow would own you, while a drg/whm could kill him with ease. Sea horror would slap your ass back to hell without 2 other people helping you, both of whom could solo it on their own. There is no longer a point to participating in ballista. sure you Could, but a taru WHM could straight up melle you to death if he just ran in your face. You cant even really farm anymore, not if you liked anything bigger than lvl 20 mobs. A Gobbue farmer in Zi tah half kills you now (17 bloody bolts to kill).

In fact, the only thing you really CAN do at any lvl of effectiveness that even comes Close to any other mellee, is XP/Merit. But ask yourself, isnt that the part of this game that most of us love the least, and have the least fun doing? Rangers are not "crying" because theyve been nerfed in damage..... they are "crying" because this nerf has basically denied them the ability to do many of the things they enjoyed in this game, without at least half a pt, activities that all of their Non-RNG friends may still enjoy at will, any time and under any circumstance they please.

Btw, just a quick note in closing. I have now seen a ranger outdamage his OWN ranged attack with a franciska swing. Shigeto bow +1 and demons. I would also like to call attention to a 3 (yes 3, not 300) damage Eagle Eye Shot. Does that sound at all right to any of you? let me put this in perspective:

Shigeto Bow +1: Dmg 76, delay 582, ranged attack +16
Demon Arrow: Dmg 34, delay 90, ranged accuracy +5
Total: Dmg 110, delay 672

Fransisca: Dmg 44, delay 288, ranged accuracy +7, ranged attack +7

The axe swing did 15 more dmg. How is that "evening the field"? Skaw, you now outdamage a ranger farming with 1 fist. Drg can be happy about this nerf all they want, they suffer enough to have earned a little gloating. But dude.... YOU are the top dog now.... in mellee, blm is top dog in HNM..... Both of you should be very very worried, not happy. And as far as stacking for hnms go, it wont mean anything but this: fewer rngs, more blm and chi blast, no more rng cannon pts, more people lvling blm/mnk..... And any of you that have ranger friends will have to ask alot more than just 1 ranger now to help out with certain things. But dont get too worried: Anything youd need 3 rangers for now, Just 1 mnk or nin or rdm can still handle for you just fine. Sound fair?

I said I wasn't against the individual Ranger, Grieve, just stacking Rangers to trivialize an encounter. Yes, it's harsh. Square went overboard, but something was needed without a doubt. No one should be sitting on the sidelines because they aren't a Ranger, nor should they have to level Ranger to be of use against things. Like I said to Strid, 15 jobs, all should be equally strong against the same end game encounter. Exactly how many BSTs do you see in a God/HNM shell? People that leveled WAR as a main, it's their only 75 Job?

And the thing about Chi Blast, is the numbers aren't solid, it does have a damage range. As well, it's very time-sensitive. I've gone many times missing out on a potentially great Chi Blast because someone didn't drop from the alliance quick enough.

Square will review this, and make appropraite changes when they realize that things were too strict.
