ixion has been killed

Theres 3-4 ls after worm and 2-3 after ixion here.

We've been monopolizing this thing on Slyph and have come up with a few strategies over the week since its release. He has a decent number of HP and some pretty wicked TP moves. (Lightening Spear 1400 dmg) Yes, Jamal is right when he says he is not a push over HNM. Even with our LS's relics including 4 Aegis, 3 Apoc and about 7 other various relic weapons, this thing still takes us about an hour to kill. We've found out though that Titan, rangers and monks mess the pony's day up pretty bad.

On a side note, how CC'd is this NM and sandworm? I love fighting sandworm <3 so much fun! On Slyph we have 0 CC on Worm and 1 other LS to compete with for Ixi. Are these HNMs pretty popular on Quetz?

Oh and a side note, I completely love the idea of HNMs spawning in more than one zone. It gives it that whole hunting aspect of monster killing that was absent before. A lot better than sitting around in Aery for 3 hours @_@

You have to keep in mind that that same ls got their asses demolished by Ixion in many of their attempts while they kited him trying to recover lol

He has a bit of hp, but hes really weak to melee. If you have good tanks and mage support he can be taken down in 45~ mins. I'd say he's a little bit harder than khimaira and Cerb, but not much. We've started on him with 11 ppl, and while that'd take forever to kill him with, it was really easy to start dmging him with that.

I'll take Tyraths word for it. A little bit harder then Khimaira and Cerb means he's still easy. And what does the repop timer have to do with how hard a fight is? Not that i was trying to make a straight comparison, just saying every single fight in this game is easy as shit, save AV. I've taken down every single HNM in this game save JoL and Vrtra with less then 2 party's, often substantially less. I have killed JoL with as little as 15, and i bet i could kill Ixion to with single digit numbers, even if it would take a while.

Point being, shit's to easy. If people have more relics and gear now then they had years ago, then scale the fuckin difficulty. But nooooooo, cause then all the gimp scrub wannabe hardcore ls's that's out there sucking is gonna cry about nhow the content isnt for them and shit gets dumbed down. And the skilled players are left with single digit battles that takes no coordination and isnt even almost a challenge.

So what you're saying is that a business should do something retarded like cater new content towards 1% of the people giving them money vs making something that will make the other 99% happy?
If you expect SE to cater some new content exclusively to people that have relic weapons you are out of your damned mind.

Ya cause there is totally no middle road? God forbid there are a few battles the larger masses cant do, a few events that caters to those who wants a real challenge.

This mob is middle road. If Ixion was another unbeatable mob, they would have failed yet again. Ixion is very challenging to some, challenging to others, and a breath of fresh air to the established.

I wanted a challenge, not a breath of fresh air. Or, i would have wanted that, now i choose not to play instead. The same challenge Vrta, Tiamat or even Fafnir was when they where released. First Fafnir killed on quetz was a 5 hour fight with 70 cap. And i know ppl say that we have more merits and better gear now, but like i said, scale the mobs accordingly.

Adding on to this, people want new gear, but in order to get new gear, you need to have a fight that is challenging to people with the best gear available right now.

It can't drop good gear unless it's challenging (most of the time), if this de-facto law is broken, you have an imbalanced game.

Therefore, the stuff right now is very challenging to casual players, and the higher echelon is challenging to even the most skilled of players, thereby rewarding those people with pretty damn good gear.

If you want something better than e.body, you would have to make a mob that someone with an e.body can not kill without breaking a sweat, or hopefully, a few exp too.

and my final statement is, caer would be able to speak better on the subject if HE CAME BACK TO THE GAME OMFG

Yeah I don't think even SE is retarded enough to make their game go down the pan by doing that.

Are people really going to be so butthurt if there is a few activitys they are unable to do? Noone is saying all the content is supposed to be for the cream of the crop, but fuck, give us something. A game where you can lvl to 75, take a quick raid in sky then engage in the absolute latest endgame is fundamentaly flawed, even if it is appealing to all the lazy fucks. There is supposed to be a need for progression, but right now its just sky -> every single other event, in that order. And you barely even need that, AH can suffice.

I dont want the game served to me on a silver platter, there is no sense of acomplishment in that.

Then come beat Pandemonium Warden. Definitely not on a silver platter, and will be an accomplishment for anyone that beats it. Also, failing on this NM doesn't mean you just wait 21-24 hours for the next one, it's a couple weeks of work. If you want an NM that wasn't beaten within the first day, then why focus on one NM that was released with about 40 others.

I have a feeling Pandemonium Warden also will be beaten as soon as people get to it. Maybe not by everyone, but by the more skilled LS's. Not gonna say anything about it yet tho, it might be hard enough. The time it takes to get to a NM has nothing to do with the difficulty of the actual fight. Odin used to take a long time to get to with alot of work, but he was still a pushover. You cant honestly say the progression-system of FFXI isnt flawed, because all you need to do is a little sky to be able to engage in pretty much any other endgame event. Sure, the ppl with the best gear has it alot easier and i could go kill tiamat with 9 persons in little more then an hour, while scrub ls's might need 25-30 members and 5 hours. But they can still do it. The same goes for pretty much any other endgame event. Gear from point A should take you to point B, that should take you to point C, and so on. Not point A -> Fuck all.

The time involved is relative to the sense of accomplishment. Many of the tier III NM's are no pushover on the road. In response to the hour long fight, the Lambton worm has a one hour battlefield, so the scrub ls won't be able to take 3 hour, nor 25-30 members.

FFXI has never been about progression, this update's intention was to give a different means of obtaining gear that may or may not be better then your point A -> fuck all. Ixion drops movement enhancement gear, which is long why Kirin was such a valued commodity. Usukane and Ares are alternatives to the other Sky / King drops so heavily dropped over the years, and now you can add to that the H. set (Body for instance is Acc+20, Attack+20, Crit Hit+5%). I've been through all of sky, all of King camping, was tanking the first vrtra taken down on the server (although rumor has it a jpn dynamis ls did defeat it before us) and yet, I still am excited at this new gear.

While progression would be nice, it's not something I'm going to get upset over. I'm happy to see other's achieve something, or get rewarded for their work. Just because they weren't around when I was doing my other endgame activities doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to compete with/against me for the new ones. There's so many possibilities out there now, that one almost has to choose which path they're going to take. I for one, like that...while you may disagree, the amount of activities are more now than ever. I know I don't have the time to defeat everything, so I'd like to know that someone I know was able to accomplish something I wish I had the time to do.

Got a good discussion going on here.

I think there are merits to both WoW's philosophy of end-game and FFXI's.

FFXI, where there is no progression to each instance of content is good in a sense that the only limitation you have is time in the day in order to accomplish everything. I think the game is getting to a point where there is no physical way you could fit in every single group end-game event into the week.

The events I can think of are: Limbus, Einjerhar, Salvage, Dynamis, Sky, Sea, Zilart HNM (3), Wyrms (1), ToAU HNM (2), WoTG HNM (2), and now ZNM. This forces people to diversify and choose selectively what things they want to do, and what things they don't, keep content open for the people who actually are interested in earning that particular set of items.

If FFXI implemented WoW's type of linear progression while maintaining non-instances battlefields and NM's, I think bottlenecks would occur, much like the ones we saw in Sky a few years back with Ulli. I don't think they are ever going to introduce instances like WoW, or retroactively change all HNM to take away the time dimension of the Window.

As for having things too easy, I agree somewhat. Unfortunately I don't think SE has found the fine line between insanely difficult/random strategy for defeat (AV) and easy/medium difficult (the rest). Is it a monster AI thing, or a difficulty scaling based on the number of alliance members? I don't know.

Whenever we get something that isnt easy/medium we default into "hold it and zerg/tpburn when we're ready" mode.
KV/Dynamis lord seems like something that would be difficult to take down and probably does consitute a huge challenge but being humans and rather adaptable/clever we decided that chucking kraken clubs and other DD with rotating brds that have soulvoice active while chainspell stunning was a better idea than taking the monster head on in a "traditional" manner.
Thats my take on it anyway. If SE makes it too hard we find a way around that difficulty and if SE makes a monster without some trick that we exploit(such as the chainspell stun+gank technique) we endup with AV level difficulty.
If SE leaves a chin_K in the armour of anything we find that weakness and destroy it from that point. As a result only the "perfect" monster would constitute a real challenge. SE attempted to make a monster without something we could exploit(or at least without anything to make it easy) and so began the saga of AV.

Ixion is actually an interesting monster. It's AoEs prevent you just loading up with mellees on it, and the way it targets and 1 shots healers makes it difficult to low man. Contrary to the seemingly popular belief, it isn't very weak to mellee, however it is very strong to Magic damage, which means that you can't just throw lots of mellees, or lots of BLMs at it and win.

It's a step in the right direction, requiring new strategies to beat it. I'd have liked to see beating it more dependant on weakening it to mellee (I still haven't seen confirmation of the strategy that weakens it to mellee) which would have meant it may have taken longer for people to consistently beat it. Its an interesting mob to fight though... mob difficulty shouldn't mean just giving a mob more HP so it takes forever to kill.

Completely wrong. It is VERY weak to melee. I've done stronger ws on him than Seiryu in Sky, and seiryu was a softy.

You just don't outright melee him, you tp on other mobs and SA WS him. Its simple. Fought him twice, and both times I only died once from misjudgement of when to run in.

I think you should read the whole post again.

I think he did read your whole post. You said it's not weak to melee. He said it is, which it is. Why does he need to reread? The strategy to fight him has existed forever. Get TP and use it on the main mob. Rinse. Repeat.

Funny, I wrote two paragraphs, and it gets summarised into five words, which I didn't actually say.
