Kicking the gimp-equipped: am I an asshole?

Relic is never going to be standard equipment, and the only truly worthwhile items from salvage(for monk, atleast) are sune-ate and somen.

Don't get me wrong, the other pieces are good. They just aren't leaps and bounds better than easier to achieve alternatives. But also don't forget that it can be months before you complete just a single piece.

Faith Torque isn't much better than PCC/PCA. But yeah, without atleast Brutal Earring, you can't be calling many people gimp. They aren't expensive to just pay for nowadays.

i agree skaw, it was just me listing some gear he/she/it should have. But w/o brutal and Faith torque which are easy as hell to get....

PCA is probably harder to get than brutal now a days. That camp has been crowded recently lol.

Brutal *is* "easy as hell to get"... if you have sea access, even if you don't have a Limbus shell, you can just plain buy the coins.

Faith Torque, not so much. You actually need to be in a group of people that hunts jailers. Yes, *of* the jailers, Faith is one of the easier ones, but that doesn't mean that someone is in a group interested in fighting them. Whereas Brutal, you can get 100% on your own once you hit sea, if you so desire. The two can't exactly be equated.

At 75 you don't Need accuracy rings.....

Ok you have Black Belt, does that makes you a best monk than someone with Brown belt... not sure.

I don't use brutal earing either, and I don't think I can be called gimped.

This game is not only for elite, Jojojo if you play 50 hours a week, and some other people plays 10 hours a week, that make sence this person playing 10 hours has not the best gear. Is that a reason to kick people because they don't have the best equipement?

If you don't want 'gimp' in your party, just make LS party. If you start random party then don't complian that everyone has not the best gear.
Beeing part of HNM LS and having BB does not make you have right to call other gimps. You are always gimped compared to someone else. Compared to all monk in my LS and compared to myself you are 'gimp'. I wouldn't boot you from a party either (unless your nin sub is not lvled and we need it)

When I kick someone because their gear is below my standards (not mediocre, but just awful) am I being a dick, or am I justified?

I'm talking a 75 without acc rings, or something along those lines.

If you play 50 hours a week and spend 10 of them exping and 40 of them bettering yourself in some other way (hunting rare/ex stuff, farming gil for buyable stuff, doing endgame events, whatever), then the proportions should remain the same even if you only play 10 hours a week. Spend 2 hours exping and 8 hours bettering yourself. Or spend 10 hours a week bettering yourself for 4 weeks, and then all 10 hours exping for one week.

It's *not* okay to go "well, the other person exps 10 hours every week, and so will I, even though that's all the time I have", and therefore do nothing but exp and constantly have crappy gear. The better attitude is to go "well, the other person exps 20% of the time they play, and improves themself otherwise the other 80% of the time, and so will I".

What should be kept consistent is not the absolute amount of time per week spent exping, but the relative proportions of time spent exping vs. bettering yourself. This is regardless of how much total time you have to play each week.

Disclaimer This dude gimped the hell out of MNK to 75, so he might not be the right person to ask.

Don't know why people try to please the "elitist" on qcdn. In the eyes of most, your gimp just because it makes them look good or w/e hard on they get from saying it. I bet GM's walk around saying everyone is gimpz cause you don't have
judge gear.

[GM]popo : mofo gimp noobs walking around in haubys and relic.

In the eyes of most, you're gimp if you're using inappropriate gear (missing some key and obvious items, many of which aren't particularly hard to get or expensive - for example, any mage that regularly rests, not having a 10 hMP staff at level 51+) or don't know how to play your job. And yes, you should bloody well be booted under those circumstances.

In the eyes of a few, yes, you're gimp if you're not decked out in the best of the best, particularly if you already have one 75 with which to make money. No, it's not necessarily to gear yourself to their standards (well, unless you plan to party with those specific people).

However, the fact does remain that if you *did* gear yourself to those standards, you'd be that much better off yourself (never mind pleasing anyone else). And if it's not your first 75 job, why not take it a little more slowly, keep up with that gear, and take pride in being awesome at it the whole way up? That's the main argument.

I agree.... However Vil dont you agree, that someone with less than caliber equipment other than a BB, has any right to call someone gimp? That is my argument.

Isn't that like the pot calling the kettle black?

I have No problem admitting that I am not Elite. Hell people know i do not like elitists. So by someone making fun of a newer member, when they themselves are obviously not uberly geared.... Get where i am coming from?

Depends on your definition of "gimp". If it's in an absolute sense (like a PLD wearing dunes armor at 75 and thinking that's good), then I think *anyone* who knows better - regardless of how good they are themselves - can quite validly call that person a gimp.

If it's more of a relative sense, then even if you're subpar yourself, if someone else is *more* subpar, you can still call them gimp. If it's about equal, well...

I wouldn't necessarily call a MNK with a Black Belt but no other notably outstanding gear a "gimp" - if their other gear is reasonable anyway. Perhaps it just so happened that of all the things to bump up from reasonable to really good, the Brown Belt -> Black Belt change was the first one. Depending on what if any endgame shell they're in and what that shell does, it's *very* possible that a BB could roll around before, say, a haidate or shura. Perhaps they're in a shell that camps kings all the time but rarely does sky: I know it was like that for me during my tenure in Kaizen.

Now if we're talking one super-shiny item and a bunch of stuff that's crappy to begin with (for example, since I know BRD better than MNK: a manteel-wearing BRD who only ever uses one instrument for *everything*) ... well then I just have to call them a dumbass. :P

So really, the answer is "it depends", and on quite a lot of factors too. You don't have to be perfectly pimped out yourself (and pimp out your items in some sort of order) in order to know what's good or bad in general. You do, however, have to be reasonable at *worst*, in any slots that aren't (yet) pimped. If you've got gimp gear of your own, then no, you shouldn't really be talking, but there's a difference between non-pimped and gimp.

Thats where we differ. If a person is "Gimp" themselves, as Jojojo has said. Then he/she shouldn't call others gimp as well. It is one thing to say so and so has pretty bad gear, versus splaying it over QCDN saying "SO and SO has less than par gear than I do."

I am still in belief that Talent>Gear. Example IRL, you dont need to be uber tall to play basketball... It may help alot, but it's not a necessity. Spud Webb and John Stockton showed us that. If you are so hardup about gear versus talent then you will forever be in that Never ending conundrum of OMG OMG I T4LK LYK3 D15.

Anyone can make a valid criticism. (Anyone can also make an invalid criticism but let's not get into that.) The only difference is whether the target (or some third party) can turn around and criticize the critic for the same thing. Whether the original critic comes under fire or not, does not change the validity of the original criticism.

Just because it's a pot calling a kettle black rather than a pile of freshly fallen snow calling the kettle black, does not change the fact that the kettle is in fact black.

Hey i mean you dont see me calling people gimp and making fun of their gear on this site ^^.

I mean, i may say oh he isn't wearing such and such gear.... But the only people i call Gimp, are my friends in joking ways, RMT, or people attempting to call others gimp ^^.

I dont have uber gear on rdm, you dont see me go shouting to everyone HAY GUYS I HAVE 2/5 RDM RELIC AND ALTURISTIC CAPE AND SUCH!

I base gimpness on the person's character and style of play. If a RDM doesn't refresh or a WAR doesn't WS. Or a persons attitude, example what you wrote above. If a person is wearing full leather gear at 75, ill ask him to change. If he doesn't then ill ask him to leave. I dont post stupid shit about it here every other day.

If you dont like people posting on your threads, make your own blog and bitch about it there dude.
A person's gear choices are a large part of their play style though. If you're on ninja, and you're built for evasion, then you're going to play entirely different than a ninja built for damage dealing. Someone with skill will both want and actually get good gear; it's incredibly, insanely rare to find someone with real skill with shitty gear, especially because decent gear is so cheap.

You're acting like people are calling others gimp for not having all HQ's, or incredibly rare gear; when in reality they're being called gimp for having either no gear in the slot, or having completely horrible gear when there is a readily available and inexpensive option that would actually benefit their job. You also don't have to have the absolute best of the best gear available in order to recognize gimp gear or to call someone on it.

No you do not need the best gear in the game to call others gimp, however you need a basis yourself to call someone ungeared. I've seen a few people that sported gimp gear and have outparsed NON gimp geared players, simply because of playing style. Granted Ninjas need certain gear to obtain best stats. HOWEVER when a person doesn't even have proper subjobs lvled :P imho that is gimp itself. That's like saying HAY GUYS IM A MNK LVL 75 AND DONT HAVE NIN AT 37... Whoops. Granted you can get away w/ mnk/war... But you are an awful MP sponge on the Mages.

If you're gimp, you shouldn't be calling others gimp too; but that's not what's happening here. There's a massive difference between not gimp and completely decked out, but both groups have every right to call gimp people out.

I'll go ahead and repost this from the "Is the best gear a standard now?" thread.

Bajaratt said:
Skill really only outweighs gear when you're doing something that can't be improved through gear. No amount of skill is going to let you cure for more, nuke harder or hit more often; just like no gear is going to tell you when to cure, when to use your abilities or when you should hold back a bit.
Talent only gets you so far, and there are clear points where gear is a shitload more useful than talent; but those with any talent will be working for the best gear and will already have decent gear. That's what you're ignoring, talent doesn't replace gear, it lets you use that gear to the fullest.

I really find that hard to believe, unless the "non-gimps" weren't paying attention at all, or the the monsters you were fighting gave an advantage to the gimps. I'd love to see some parse results and equipments/foods for those parties.

1. His NIN is 37,

2. Wearing a useless ring is different from wearing something that's useful but not the best out there.

3. Shut up already.

#1. then this just occured not long ago. Because he was MNK/war for a long time.
#2 You are putting gear into 2 categories. If one calls one piece gimp, then hey why not that diabolos earring on his ear.
#3 who the hell are you? Oh thats right i dont care lol.

Possibly Baja, i dont know the logistics behind WS vs waiting etc etc. All i know is i was the pld in that Party and the War Dual weilding arca and Some pick was out parsing Woods/Man.

Let me log into my Desktop and i can PM them to you if they are still there.

And so that im not ignoring your previous post, i agree gear does help alot. But in some situations there is only so much gear can do as well.
