Lets talk about insomnia.

Benadryl works wonders... let me tell you! It's actually an allergy medicine but it really knocks you out. My OB tells me to take them when I can't get sleep (getting sleep while pregnant is really difficult). They will even give it to you at the hospital so you can sleep through contractions - not that that applies to you, but that's how powerful it is.

Another tip to fight restlessness is making your bed a "sleep only" area. Don't do other, more active things in your bed, restrict it only to relaxing activities. Burn candles or a relaxing-scented oil (like jasmine or chamomile) to set a relaxing mood - if you're into aromatherapy or anything, it works well for my mother. If you're staying up late stressing over things, try to keep a pen and paper next to your bed and just write down each thing you're thinking about.

Like Excim said, more activity during the day will help you toget rest in the evening so try doing something active a few hours before you intend to go to bed. I started walking a lot more frequently during my day to help get sleep at night and it has really made a big difference for me.

I took Benadryl, i was able to get to sleep, but i would wake up every hour or two, it was a restless sleep. FUcking bullshit i hate this.

Isn't Bennadril just over the counter sleep medicine that can knock you out for hours?

I think that's it, someone from my work is like obsessed with it <,<

Its actually allergy medicine with a pretty powerful punch sleep aid with it. If you do take it, don't get addicted to it. That is a pretty nasty medicine right there.

Another helpful idea that worked alot for me was alcohol. Not alot, by any means, but if you drink until right before you are tipsy, it'll put you right out.

I do that, but i also have an addiction to Alcohol. I have been going to AA for about 6months. I am not sober at the moment, i have been drinking. I am trying my hardest to stop.

Piror to my insomnia i had depression, still do. I used Alcohol to get over it. Trying to hide/put away my depression, i started to abuse Alcohol, and still do. I do not like taking medication in fear of addiction, which i have already developed in Alcohol.

You are an alcoholic at 18?

Say that like it is strange. The meetings i go to, there are 14 and 15 yearolds. Not all the common, but alcoholism is more of a problem than you may thing. I also come from two alchohalic parents, who have been sober for 20 and 21 years.

To me that is strange. I don't think I have ever heard of an alcoholic that young, but I guess that's just me.

It's a mental thing. Alcohol is a depressent, but it is the only one what brings you up, the buzz you get, and then brings you down. It is the up that people, like myself, get addicted to.

Strange is grown men who have an affinity for everything that is Bob Saget. :spiteful:

Kelyon, your sleeplessness is directly an effect of your depression. Let your therepist know whats going on, the will likely help you fix that problem. (Or at least prescribe you some Diazapam or some other goodies!)

Touche.

Anyways, I haven't read much of this thread, so if anything I say has already been said, forgive me. When I have had trouble sleeping, the best thing I did for myself was change my exercise schedule . I used to do everything right after waking up, which helped me at first because it would help get me up and at it in the morning. The problem was my body was becoming so used to it, it messed with me when I tried to fall asleep. I am not sure if you follow any sort of regiment, but if you do, try switching it up. Throw in a strenuous activity right before you go to sleep, take a shower, maybe light some incense and just relax as much as you can.

Also, try flipping your mattress.

This is going to sound incredibly stupid, but it works for me. I used to be completely incapable of going to sleep because my mind refused to shut off. What I do now is when I lay down to go to sleep, I start singing 99 Bottles of Beer mentally in my head. I've never made it all the way through the song without falling asleep first. You just find something to keep your mind from wandering and just lay still. You'll fall asleep.

What if you have a form of ADD and get bored? Maybe go from beer to sheep to girls then back to beer?

Tonight I am going to go running for a couple miles like an hour before bed, then try Rappa's idea. Another thing that seems to help sometimes is Ambiant noises, mostly from a band The Album Leaf. I tried sleeping in cloths naked everything. I really am trying to avoid drugs.

White noise also helps people sleep. Have you tried turning on a fan while you're in bed?

Yeah, I have one that is on my face, about 2 feet away at all times. I also sleep in VERY cold weather. Like 45-50 Degrees at night, i sleep with my windows open.

Cold air can make it tough to breath which might be keeping you up. You might have to find a balance between sleeping weather and breathing properly.

At least you got me up this time too. Cat allergies keeping me awake lol
