Looking to beef up the power of my BLU

I don't agree with this statement. With multi-hit spells like Frenetic Rip(3), Hysteric Barrage(5), and Disseverment(5), accuracy is very important. Missing one of this hits in the in the spell will cause your damage to drop significantly, this making accuracy very important. Your gear should reflect this while you're casting.

Ruffy:You may think your accuracy is very good, but I'm sure a parser would disagree. You might be able to get away with using sushi and fighting VT mobs, but Mamool and the like are much more evasive.

I don't understand how you've come to this conclusion at all. If stacking attack doesn't increase melee damage considerably, why do you think Ochiudo's Kote, Juggernaut, etc are priced as they are? Stacking attack always has a significant effect. You can easily notice this effect by switching out sushi for meat.

...So you've set this spell only to use once every 15-20 minutes, to give the party a boost? ...If it's important enough to keep set to use it once every 15-20 minutes, don't you think it is important enough to keep up consistently?

You are taking what I say out of context.

I have no problem with any spells landing, at all on any mamool but[/i] thf and nin. Thats all. There isnt a need to fix something that isnt broken. Why give myself more accuracy, when the acc I do have gets the job done? I know this, because if I can have over 100% tp every time before CA timer even cools down, thats good.

Youre comparing DD that deal damage with WEAPONS to a job whos damage is based around SPELLS. Besides this fact, those DD jobs can get MUCH more att+ equipment than a BLU ever could. That is what Im saying. If you look, I typed "considering the job."

No, I dont only use the spell only once every 15-20 minutes, nor did I say I did. I just said I do use it with Diffusion. Its the only spell I do use with it in a merit pt.

So should THF and RNG not care about their normal hits because their main damage is based around their WSes? =/ That's...not quite how it works.

Ruffy your stuff isnt too bad, just getting the HQ's of some things would help, build your str and dex when you can. Accuracy is only really really a huge issue when you cant use food (the colibri pain in the butt). Selling your jet legs is probably a smart move, use errant stuff instead for your +int and +mnd and get a pair of +acc, fast cast, or run speed leg. Rare/ex stuff is what will really boost your blu, homam, crimson, voyager sallet, suppa, brutal, loquacious, genbu's shield..... and of course merits > than all.

I have parsed merit PTs on my BLU a couple times, and I know for a fact that my accuracy is, at lowest, 80% without sushi. But yes, I also only fight wussy mobs like Greater Colibris and Heraldic Imps. On the very rare occasion I fight something else, I use sushi. And again, I have more accuracy from gear than Ruffy, along with 6 sword merits.

And yes, sorry to say Ruffy, but your melee damage is more important than you make it out to be. I'll be the first to say that our spell damage is more of our overall damage, but melee damage is actually a surprising amount of our damage too. I'd say as a general example, vs. colibris, I deal about 6 melee damage for every 10 spell damage. Sure our job doesn't center around it, but it IS an important part of our damage nonetheless. Even Raubahn will tell you: "Magic is not the only weapon in our arsenal... as you will soon learn..." (just before he kicks your ass with some 500+ damage Savage Blade or something, of course)

i know the answer... use whatever 800k, go to limbus and get all homam. problem solved.

chicken dinner.

If you already decided not to swap gear and plan to spend the money on str gear, why even bother asking?

no, people, Im not saying the melee damage from BLU is useless. Im saying it is fine where its at. Of course theyre not high numbers, but melee attacks usually float around 50 damage each sword, which seems fine to me

And no, CA isnt 3 minutes, its 2. I can get 100% before the timer is down, anyway, which is a SC about every other mob, or every mob if I decide to just use TP

no, lol..................

#1 RNG dont melee anyway. Not from ANY pt Ive EVER been in. They stand back, engage, and start firing away. When they get hate, Ive always seen some crappy numbers from their daggers, and besides... Man RNG use Fire Staff anyway, so GG attack gear with no staff skill?

#2 THFs main damage comes WS's and TA and SA, these three things should have priority. You build on what a job specializes in, you dont make them all into gimp war's

Ruffy you are isunderstanding the point. Whoosh?

#1 reread that statement by mishy and consider the situation for a second. For a rng thier regular hits ARE the ranged attacks.
#2 the melee damage a thf can do not counting ws, SA , and TA is huge when the thf isnt shit. Ignoring the damage done of the way to 100tp is stuff from before the tp nerf. Thieves only sacrificed damage on thier offhand dagger for speed because once you got under a certain delay you were getting FREE tp and it was exploited. I've said it before I beleive and I'll say it again. The majority of thieves you will see in pickup groups are shit and using them as examples of how to play thf isnt the greatest idea.

Mish said Normal hits. Normal hits for ANYONE is melee. Ranged attack would have been specified...

I do know THF melee damage can be awesome, but that isnt the point I'm trying to make. All Im getting are these roughly barely related scenario's to respond to.

Edit: Made some changes, would like to keep it away from a jabbing argument rather than a simple debate D:

No, Im not. But I believe it did fly right over your head

THF is a perfect comparison. Get good acc gear, haste gear, and get to 100, then ws, then 100 again before the 2 minute CA timer is up. If you can't do that, you need more acc. Thieves WAIT for SA and TA to be up, and that's a 1 minute ability. Beyond that, if you can make some simple changes to get to 120TP in the 2 minute ability, why aren't you? It only increases your damage, which is what you are looking for.

Beyond that, you have an A- in sword, with a good ACC setup you should be able to eat meat pretty easily. Meat results are readily available, and it's easy to understand why it's a superior solution.

No normal hits for rng is ranged attack. It is what they normally hit the mob with. If you ask a rng what they normally hit kirin for they aren't going to say "I usually wiff cause I can't get my dagger/axe skill high enough" they will tell you how much dmg they do with their ranged attack.

Mishaela, I do believe, meant Melee, because using RNG's ranged attacks as a counter example would only glorify what Im saying, which isnt what Mishaela was doing.

I was saying jobs should build on their strong point, and with RNG... Thats Ranged Attacks.

No acctually she said should they not focus on their normal hits (aka ranged attack for rangers) since their main dmg is their WS not normal ranged attacks. Also why not eventually try and get tp gear as well as spell gear? Is its cause you don't want to carry more gear and make macros?

#1 A RNG should focus on their ranged attacks, for several reasons.
a) SE implemented that distance patch however long ago, and the RNG's ranged attack damage is also based on how far/close they are to the mob
b) In order "to have the best damage potential" with this patch active is to engage, fire an arrow/bullet, run up and attack, run back, and fire again, which is very inefficient
c) While running back and forth hitting and firing arrows, theyll be switching out +acc and +att gear for their melee hits with daggers, or axes (I would hope the latter on main hand at least) which even further lowers the DoT because of time wasted

#2 I get tp at a good rate. Although the rate my not be maximized, the damage potential from the spells is higher than it would be for the time it would take to switch macro's to cast spells. Mobs simply do not last long enough. 1 spell is enough to take a large chunk out of the mob, sometimes Ill use two, but by then the mob is almost dead, and Im already pulling another. Gil, Inv space and macro timing are issues, but not the biggest issue. I would like to deal the largest amount of damage in the shortest time possible

#1 That was mishs point.

#2 I understand if money is the issue. I don't know how long it takes you to hit a macro but it takes me under a second so Im not sure where all this lost damage is coming from. Do the spells do less when you use them half a second later with the same gear? If you want to deal the most damge in a short time use TP gear for TP and spell gear for spells.

I'll address each of these seperately

A) Somewhat reversed, not really an issue anymore
B) How is that inefficient? If you're looking for ideal, it's the best possible solution, however, it's harder and the ranger really has to be on their game. Not an efficiency issue, a difficulty issue.
C) How does that lower DoT? You can change gear IN a macro, and it's instantaneous, no wasted time.

2) GEAR SWITCHES ARE INSTANTANEOUS (or near), you don't waste any time switching gear, learn to use the macros. Real DDs switch tons of gear for WSs, how is switching gear for spells on BLU any different?

The issue is that you're too lazy/poor/whatever to get multiple gear sets to do multiple things (casting, WS, tp).

Read back, (this is maybe the third of fourth time Ive said this)

I did say jobs should build on their specialty, with RNG??? That is Ranged Attack. Mishaela was trying to disprove my point.

Macros take a bit longer to hit than half a second... Im constantly hitting spells, and to get to a gear swap Ill have to travel over to a seperate palette, which lengthens the time the next spell could have been cast

Whats a good parser, gonna pt in a few minutes. Ive got this old FFXI parser (thats what its called) and it doesnt even seem to work half the time

Put the gear swaps by the spell macros. Put them in the spell macros if it really takes you that long to use macros you need to rethink the way you use them.
