I agree, and i want to add that some persons like the "challenge" of leveling the "wrong" job for their race :D

Thank you !!
I started this game with an Elvaan, and decided to experiment with the path of magic.. so I created the Tarutaru named "Darthyoda", and since I intended to go the blm route I based my character choice solely for that job.. I have since retired the 38drk (mnk/war/drg/nin/thf) to stay on the one character everyone knows me on. I enjoy playing the midget, and have gotten rather attached to the lil turd. I wanted the biggest nukes I could make when creating Darthyoda.

I also found that I thoroughly enjoy being a dragoon much more on my Taru then I did as an Elvaan... I have a hard time getting pt's with him so, I've retired the job only until I get blm to 75, then hopefully I'll have made enough friends to get pt invites on my drg. I want my full af purple power pimp gear. (say that 3 times real fast) Blm may be the career job I enyoy, along as my main... but dragoon will always be my favorite...

and to reference the original post. As hard as it is, I strive to have all the best gear I can get, along with all of my spells... I try to be the best at my job.. Then again, that may just be me, but I have not one time had anyone call me gimp, or a bad mage... so let's keep my fingers crossed and keep trudging on.. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I think I do "ok".

if you're curious on my gear, and stats you can click the link on my signature.

Okay, first thing- why does a WHM need magic resistance more than PLD?

Second thing- The job/race combos aren't a super bad thing, I'm just saying that it's smarter (in my opinion) to have a little extra oomph into whatever job you're leveling. In any way, even at Lv75, race stats don't differ too heavily. Maybe by 30 at the most, but still, that's 30 STR and DEX a taru never had, or 30 INT an Elvaan never had, or like 300 MP a Galka never had. I'm not saying job/race combos are a totally bad thing to screw up, I'm just saying that it'd be smarter to have that extra 30'ish of whatever stat you'd be missing out on.

In lieu of my last post... I just rethought what whats-is-face said over there about MND and magic resistance and stuff... basically, PLD use MND to resist magic, not their spells are resisted. They use Flash to get 1.5x Provoke hate or whatever it is in comparison to Provoke. They also need MND to resist magic, whether it be debuff spells or direct-damage spells. You see a BLM take like 100 damage from a Fire II, then a WHM taking like 50 because of the higher MND (and job trait "Magic Defence Bonus", but still mostly MND).

Anyway, just thought I'd clear it up. And I know that MND affects Cure V so WHM should have a bit of MND for that spell and some debuffs anyway, but I still say that the number one stat on my board is MP.

WHM get Magic Def. Bonus for the fact that they're a job with a huge variety of protection spells. (Would you rather it be called Auto-Shell?)

Paladins are people who (as the stereotype says), as heroic figures who may battle hoardes of monsters, esp. undead (oh crap, is THAT why they have undead killer?)...there's no real reason to toss Magic Def. Bonus on them..

MND *STILL* don't affect the INT'based spells damage you take... When it does the damage, it's your INT in comparison to the opponent's INT, MND won't affect it in any way what-so-ever.

I don't think I've seen any other race of the same job have 30 more in a stat (other then MP and HP) then me at 75. I'm sure you're going by the stat calculators out there, but need I remind you that those are terribly wrong post-60?

Agreeing with what Uzor said...plus...
If there was a difference in race that amounted to something as great as 30str or such, people'd be a LOT more demanding on who chooses what race/job combo.

And most PLDs at my level actually have about 30 more VIT than my SMN (but that's because of job, not race), and the 100 more damage I take from a hit really shows. You're sortof understating the truth - even having 10 more in a stat is a big "oomph", let alone 30.

Sometimes when duoing with Tongan fighting Ice Elementals, he will sometimes resist Blizzaga, taking 30 damage, and I won't resist it, taking 70 damage. We both have, I think, at least 2 Mag. Def. Bonuses. Sometimes I resist higher magic, like Blizzard II. But, when I'm paralyzed, it usually won't kick in, but Tongan gets paralyzed often to the point where he'll ask for Paralyna. Then again, Paralyze is white magic, and Tongan has less MND than me.

Well, you are WHM, and have more magic defence bonus then him, namely one more. But that doesn't affect resist rate, but the damage you take. And since he have higher INT then you, and only one less magic defence bonus trait, he'll take less damage than you.

It also depends on how much resistance against ice you have. From, say equipment and bar spells.

Also, if you were using spell interruption rate down equipment, that would also explain the less interruptions in paralyze. WHM have -20% on AF boots, while RDM have -10% from body. So you have have less of a chance to get interrupted. Also, it would depend if you had Aquaveil up or not.

well... as a blm i think i do my job fairly decently

always start the fight with 2 enfeelbes to let the melee's hit easier and harder

maintain high MP to stay consistant with the skill chains but nuke enough to kill the mobs at a decent speed

when agro comes and only half the pt is there, i stick to healing and stunning for the person who is tanking, regaurdless of who it is

get a link i instantly do sleepga II so i dont have to waist time targeting the other mob.

And also just stun some times for the hell of it to slow the mob down.

If anyone has any problems with this plz let me know i will alter my stratagie if you have a better one

You're saying you're doing some research, but you're ignoring the input of people who have actually leveled those jobs. You're assuming that the internet is 100% true, and as Uzor already said, some of them are horribly wrong. You're also ignoring when Uzor said it only effects MND-based spells, and any black magic is INT based, so mnd still wouldn't help.

I don't think I've ever seen a paladin wearing +mnd gear when there was +vit gear or +hp gear to be worn. When you look to paladin's in the endgame, what do you see? They're stacking on VIT and HP, maybe some +enmity as well, but that usually comes with their +HP and +VIT gear. Koenig/Kaiser gear, the top-sheld endgame gear for paladins, gives VIT, HP, and CHR, not MND, so it's obviously not that important.

im sry but i have to correct you on the magic damage resistance point.

INT lowers the damage taken by any magic attack that is elemental based.

MND lowers the damage taken by any magic attack that is Divine based.

Ex: fire, thunder, water, etc and the I's II's and III's will do less damage to you the higher your INT is

banish, banish II, holy, etc, will do less damage to you the higher your MND is.

I have evidence to prove this statement, iv tested it out on mobs and ballista so i know this is true.

This also explains why casting burn on a mob causes elemental attacks to do mroe damage, and not shock.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying MND is more useful than VIT. In my opinion, you should just use Silence at the start of a fight. However, I'm just saying that in every possible thing I've read (internet, that weird guide, etc) have all said that MND affects all magic resistance.

Just see the difference in race stats. Like I said, it's not much, but even that little bit of extra stat is nice is all I'm saying. Like Mithra THF versus Elvaan THF for DEX, AGI, etc. I'm not saying an Elvaan can't play a good THF, I'm saying that a Mithra THF would have better stats for the job.

trust me that whole MND helping resist all spells is not correct.

Its INT that lowers elemental damage taken. Ill try to get some pics showing the damage difference depending on how much INT i have to show you.

I can find a lot of things that those sites, and the "holy" guide is all wrong about. But do I really need to find them to prove you wrong?

Just grab a BLM the same level as you and fight some goblins with AoE magic spells. You will notice that it hurts you more than him (despite our crappy magic defence trait).

Eh- I believe you. With as many people disagreeing with me as this, I can safely say that chances are you're right.
However, I can safely say that most Job Traits are just damn useless anyway. This pretty much includes everything like the resists and Magic/Physical defence/damage bonuses. Like, they're nice to have, and they build up to a fair amount later on in the game, but some of them are just shitty as hell. Especially WAR's resistance to Virus. The chances of you fighting a monster that'd Plague you are like 1/1000 anyway. I like how NIN resist Bind and THF resist Gravity, but the chances of you resisting are slim to none anyway. Not saying Job Traits suck, I'm just saying don't expect much from "Magic Defence Bonus".
(Even Store TP isn't overly great unless your main is SAM)

Mages and magic is a boring fucking topic, stop bumping this crap, I don't care and what I say is right.

actually, it's easy to test the magic defence bonus. Just go to Fafnir, and try it out. I don't exactly remember the result, but it showed clear results

I mean, melee-wise, since I try not to use much mp while farming, when the Ice Elemental casts Paralyze, and I do get paralyzed, it won't kick in, while I will see...
Tongan is paralyzed.
Tongan is paralyzed.
Tongan is paralyzed.
