Makes Sense To Me

Aye I noticed I just felt like saying something besides "pot meet kettle" etc. As for most things, there's some pro's and con's to what the man was saying and I can't make any absolute statements that I know how Alabama is like, but I'm going to have to agree that it's probably trying to pander the votes of older, not so tolerant, voters.

It's Alabama. They had a Voting Literacy Test(Anti-Black Voting blockade.) It's a WHITES ONLY PLEASE state, filled with WHITES ONLY PLEASE residents. It's not my fault it's an intolerant toilet.

Guys I got a job where I slept, ate, and went to the bathroom 24 hours a day where I worked, I didn't need a license, so nobody needs a license!

Get your shitty anecdotal evidence out of here.

If it's good enough for your president it's good enough for me, and I worked 5 miles from where I slept but nice jumping to conclusions.

Also thanks for showing just how blissfully unaware you are. Alabama has one of the highest concentrations of African Americans in the US "Historically, most African Americans lived in the Southeastern and South Central states of Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas" source while your there go ahead and look at that ancestry map.

And it's your fault for being more ignorant about the state then you think that man is about minorities.

Yes, but this all went down hill when nobody could prove that this isn't just a good old racist trying to push those immigrants out of his state/prevent immigrants from moving in.

My god, who needs to debate?

I never realized you could simply declare yourself the winner.

Truly, this has opened my eyes.

Havent sifted through all the posts, but Im not sure i agree with this. There are many idiots out there, but some of the people that take the test in spanish, are able to understand the road signs in english. People learn the more important words first, its much easier to learn the important words on road signals, signs, etc than it is to learn an entire test's words. Many of you who are not hispanic may not understand, though I speak perfect english and spanish, itd be pretty cruel to enforce this nation wide. There are better ways to encourage people to perfect their english. My parents have busted their ass in this country, taken English classes, and have never broken the law, always lived the right way. My mom speaks english well, my father doesnt, but I dont know a person who works harder and is a better man than my father. He is also one of the best drivers I know, he was a driver for an airline company, and drove trucks before being laid off, and I personally know he would not pass a driving test in english.

Not giving him a license would be a stupid thing to do. Just because someone doesnt know English well enough to pass a test written in english, doesnt mean they dont understand the signs on the road.

I really hope none of you find yourself living in say China or Japan or even Italy or France, luckily, those countries have alot of their signs in english, albeit it's broken english sometimes it's still english...

The U.S. is the only country I know of arrogant enough to have a mindset of "In Amurika we speak Amurikan, you don't like et you can gittttt outttt"

it might not be racist persay, but there is no doubt that it is descriminatory, and it's a slippery slope.

argue it all you want, but the fact remains that other countries have english signs and even customer service workers that know english to cater to tourists and foreigners.

Now I will say that if I move to Italy I would be smart to learn at least a basic understanding of the language so I could communicate with those who don't know english, so I can understand alot of your arguments, but I wouldn't expect a country or a town or even state to discriminate against me because I didn't speak their language, that is Fascist

If you really believe that, you need to get out more.

If not speaking their national language put their citizens at risk why wouldn't you expect it?

And it's not so much discrimination, there are immigrants who learn the language, you can't work in a warehouse if you can't understand the instructions given by your superior. It's a health and safety issue. This discussion is about handing people their licenses who can't understand the language... still a health and safety issue but for all of us. No committee is going to step in and put a stop to 'hiring' inadequate associates.

And like someone mentioned earlier, it's as simple as saying 'if you'd like to drive a 3000+lb metal killing machine on our roads then here are the qualifications you will need in order to get a passing grade..1, complete this test in English." That gives them the option. They can take public transit, car pool with co-workers or educate themselves well enough to get a pass.

If they cannot read english well enough to understand the questions asked in a multiple choice (stupid easy) test, then how are they supposed to understand written signs?

Airou, I totally get what you're saying, and I believe you 150% when you say your father is a great driver, and obviously well enough to have held positions as a driver. Most companies require an abstract before they even consider you. And I do understand that english can be very difficult and confusing for a foreigner to learn as it's one of the most complex and contradicting languages out there. But if he can understand some written, then it would just be a matter of him asking for assistance in the meaning (this is an example) of a question if that's what has him stumped. Any tests, especially multiple choice, can leave the most brilliant of people scratching their heads. And often times it's as simple as vague terminology.

No he's right, in England they have the mindset "In England we speak English if you don't like it, pip pip and GTFO"

And there are several countries where the majority feel that way. I know I do.

Not so much that they can GTFO, but I find it highly insulting when immigrants come here and start demanding changes to allow for exemptions because they're 'different'. Religion especially.

I'd like to know what part of England you visited, because for the most part it's mostly the ignorant people who think like that.

Insult by inference, love it.

London, and where ever RAF Mildenhall (sp?) is. All the signs on the road were in English there, never saw spanish or french (understandable) or german.

London is a pretty big city. I took it more from the point of you saying "they have this mindset" rather than, "they have English signs"

That's nice for Skaw, but I'm not Skaw?

Point being that anecdotal evidence, as Skaw pointed out, in his acerbic fashion, holds no weight.

I can just as easily say that in my experience, everyone from Britain is pants-on-head retarded, and there's relatively little you can do to prove me wrong. It's meaningless.

So, effectively, your only real objective in this debate was to draw a parallel, since your point, such as it was, was null and void before you even made it.

I had the first quote in mind when I made that post.

I guess I should add that only Americans have the balls to go ahead and out right say "if you don't like it here you can leave". While the rest of the world may say it, just without words.

Cept Norway... the Norsk are awesome.

Then why did you even say the British feel that you should "gtfo" if you don't know the language? Apparently only America have the balls to say stuff now.

lol did you read the thread hunny?

It wasn't clear that that's what he meant, I knew what he meant ;p

GBB, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he meant England is over there >.> amoung the other great European countries and DOESN'T have multiple languages on the signs to refute mention of how most European countries do offer different languages.

So basically, England is not on the same page as Canada or any other country that offers multiple translated road signs.

Sorry for not googling a case study to back up my point (if one even exists). However I'm more than happy to look for you.
