This is just me bitching about Lego getting perma banned for making a "barrage" (4 posts in 2 days constitutes a barrage?) of posts.

I'd like to know more about why he got banned. I read the last 4 posts he made (unless some were deleted) and I think this is an over reaction.

Fact of business, I think that most perma bans are an over reaction. Perhaps it is time to step back and look at the rules again. I mean, you banned Kotsu for harrasment on a site with an ignore function.

Also, you should allow people to post comments in the threads where the bannings are announced. I was going to just ask Sneakypants about it in that thread, but it's locked? Why lock it?

APPARENTLY ... it's not up for discussion.

I like how on some other boards you can see where the deleted posts used to be (as in, the post is replaced by a line similar to what you see when an ignored user posts, and it says "Deleted post from: Username")

Leggo had quite the history, one that many people on staff were seeing decline steadily and more steadily. Eventually all his posts came down to was, "NERDRAGE BRAH, HOLDING DOWN SHIFT IS SUPER RANDUM LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL", and for awhile it was just brushed off. He's received several infractions and several PMs to shape up or he would be shipped out. His response was the same as above. We had 5 reports just today about those 4 posts and those 4 posts after coming off of a 14 day RO for the same thing. Enough was enough.

Its been more of a build up thing (as our current infraction system is). He climbed the ladder to the rung right before permaban, and he went up the next step. Several were more than likely deleted.

It used to be a huge deal, but not that the site runs a hell of a lot more efficient, we have a system we do things by now. It may be time to step back and look at the rules again, but that isn't something that is going to be soon. Private LSs moving to Social Groups and fixing templates are the main thing on the agenda as far as things go. After all that is straightened out i will be having a serious talk with everyone on staff, and if people are being civil i may even open the floor for the community. As far as Kotsu goes, there is a novel sized backstory to that, that makes me quite glad he's gone, but he went the same way. He climbed up the infraction ladder (the flamebait ladder is much bigger than the one for spamming) and he was taken care of by the system, the ignore system has helped, but the comprehensive ignore system that would have been able to solve everything, didn't work out so well.

I, honestly, didn't think that regular users had the option to post in the C&P section. I won't be the one giving them the rights to either, since that isn't the place that anything needs to be posted by anyone other than staff. S&F is the section for things to be brought up.

That's a soft delete. I truthfully hate seeing that really <_<. Of course it'd help users know shit is being deleted but if people want to be ridiculous, I wouldn't want to keep seeing "This is deleted by blah blah blah" over and over.

Well the fact that even he wasn't given an appropriate reason for being banned, leads me to believe he was going to be banned no matter what he posted. Many other members post useless shit all of the time. 5 reports about 4 posts? Please are people really that pathetic they bitch about posts that much? I'm glad I'm not a mod, I'd probably tell them to stfu and put him on ignore. That IS why we have that function isn't it? If you look at what you're deleting, is it really creating a problem? Was;

He's currently LPing a romhack of Super Mario World and some of that shit is hilarious. Also, if you watch his first Mario 64 video, he's actually kind of normal. He stays that way for awhile but by video 30 he's gone completely ape shit. He's also gone through the roof with subscribers. He had some 200-ish last week and he's coming close to 1000 now within a few days.

Spam? No. If he has a few spam posts… everyone does. I don’t really want to say “If a certain mod doesn’t like him” because then I’ll get all the “ONOYOUDIDNT” responses, but why is this a problem now, when Neo has been on this site since 2005? His attitude and posting haven’t changed.

There was no reason to ban him. Bannings are usually reserved to malicious people who assault and berate others, not someone who posts a random post every so often to make people laugh. Completely banning him from the site because you thought he was spamming too much, is a little absurd.

The 5 people who reported him, get the sticks out of your asses and stop abusing the report function.

So he was banned for posting in caps and not contributing? I have some names for you to look over...

I must have missed all that. Honestly I didn't realize he was gone until today. I keep all forums collaped these days except general Discussion and Board Issues.

I, honestly, didn't think that regular users had the option to post in the C&P section.

Maybe we don't. In 5 years, I've never tried.

I won't be the one giving them the rights to either, since that isn't the place that anything needs to be posted by anyone other than staff.

S&F is the section for things to be brought up.

Just be making duplicate topics. Much like this one is.

Thanks for your timely response.

k, I will.

I feel it matters what he posted and in what manner he posted it. What I thought he did was come back and start spamming again to pretty much purposely get banned. And the thing about the ignore function is that even when you ignore someone, it still shows they made a post and you can have the urge click "view post." Of course that's the person's fault for clicking it. But also, if they want to read the thread they posted in, and someone quotes the said ignoree, then you can still see the post. I never found the ignore function to really be all that useful.

Then again, why should anyone even post about this? No one is ever happy at the end of these things anyway. Really just starting to get ridiculous since everyone thinks someone is banned because a mod doesn't like them. And even if that's true, you can't call them out on being "biased" because everyone's opinion is technically biased.

And no I didn't really report Lego, didn't even see his posts actually.

You said it yourself. If people are that curious, then they have no right to complain. Rappa has had me on ignore for about a year now and it's worked out fantastically for him.

And no, it's not a bias. Yes, Neo is my friend, but so was Meeze, so was Jamal, so was Kotsu. Did I bitch about them getting banned? Well, Meeze is read only but it's pretty much the same thing. It's WHAT he got banned for.

As far as Kotsu goes, there is a novel sized backstory to that

If you could post that novel, that would be wonderful. I've been looking for something to read during downtimes at work.

I have zero idea why anyone is protesting this. It has nothing to do with any mod's or users feelings. He broke the rules, got reprimanded, was given a solution where he could continue his behaviour without breaking rules, ignored it, broke more rules, and got punished.

Why are you speaking out against the banning? Well people get banned, but you don't speak out against every banning, so that can't be it. So that leaves two things. The banned party is a close friend (dunno if he is or not, but that's a possibility), or you don't like the rules in which he violated. Yet you're not actually bringing any sort of changes or propositions to re-evaluate the rules by. You're not even saying which rules you have a problem with. You're just complaining about it.
Why was Lego banned? Hm, well considering they've said it a few times, and it's pretty obvious from his behaviour: spamming, trolling, flamebaiting. Which of those do you have a problem with and why?

See, nobody's actually brought any sort of proposal to change rules that they don't like. Especially in the case of Lego. The only thing was "lol lighten up", which doesn't really help.

And the clicking on the message thing only works if you have to click to see any message. If all messages were hidden, and you had to click on them to read anything, then your argument would be valid. Which would be a pretty ridiculous way to run a forum. If only they could make it so that only the people that wanted to could see Lego's posts.... oh wait, you know what. They DID. Ta-daaaa make your own Social Group. Huh, guess he didn't want to do that. And you're against this, why?

It's like if you had a band, and being the open minded people they are, let you practice there, even though other stuff is going on. The catch is you play religiously offensive music. Some of the church-goers complain, and the church wants everyone to be happy, so they offer the use of a sound proof room to practice in. And your band doesn't use it, and as a result, isn't allowed to practice there any more.

He could have spammed the hell out of his own little social group, and no one would have cared. No one would have to see it who didn't want to. Everything would have been more or less fine. But did he take the solution? No, he lashed out in a childish fashion, and is gone.

That is actually another name i thought about when I thought about people that shouldn't have been banned. But it seems people get mad when you even mention the name Jamal. But if nothing else, all the parser data Jamal contributed was worth his weight in gil to me when I still played. Reguardless of what anyone says about him, he is an awesome FFXI player and anyone that listens to his advice is a better player for it. He is a serious asset to whatever FFXI community in which he chooses to take part.

Decidence contributed a great deal of info as well. Whatever happened to him?

And no, an opinion is not biased if the person giving it has nothing to lose or gain based on their opinion.

Decidence contributed a great deal of info as well.

Actually, Deci pretty much quit posting when he quit playing. He does post every once in a while in the WoW forums because he still plays WoW.

Whatever happened to him? He spends some time on the couch playing his PS3 and watching hockey... I have to watch TV in the bedroom ._.;

Spam is still spam, just in the same way that flaming and baiting are the same, weather they are ignored or not. Your example: Rappa has you on ignore. You decided to flamebait the shit out of him. Rappa has you on ignore, but you would still be punished. Just because its ignored, doesn't make it not against the site rules.

As i've said before, he wasn't banned for the last few posts he made. He was banned for the collection of things to happen. He knew it was against the rules, and continued to do things to get a rise out of the staff.

As I mentioned before, I saw no spam (but concede to the fact that it could have been deleted), and I personally don't think posting in caps or being weird should be a bannable offense.

Why are you speaking out against the banning? Well people get banned, but you don't speak out against every banning, so that can't be it. So that leaves two things. The banned party is a close friend (dunno if he is or not, but that's a possibility),

Nope.

or you don't like the rules in which he violated.

That is closer to the point.

Yet you're not actually bringing any sort of changes or propositions to re-evaluate the rules by. You're not even saying which rules you have a problem with. You're just complaining about it.

I'm the kind of person that likes to be sure I have all the available information before I shoot off at the mouth.

Why was Lego banned? Hm, well considering they've said it a few times, and it's pretty obvious from his behaviour: spamming, trolling, flamebaiting. Which of those do you have a problem with and why?

Spaming I did not see. Trolling I did not see. Flamebaiting I did not see. I'm also not the kind of person to believe everything I hear (or read in this case).

See, nobody's actually brought any sort of proposal to change rules that they don't like. Especially in the case of Lego. The only thing was "lol lighten up", which doesn't really help.

Neither does banning someone that doesn't need it.

And the clicking on the message thing only works if you have to click to see any message. If all messages were hidden, and you had to click on them to read anything, then your argument would be valid. Which would be a pretty ridiculous way to run a forum.

One of us is confused about what you are talking about. Of course I don't have anyone on my ignore list anymore so I am somewhat ignorant as to how the function works these days.

If only they could make it so that only the people that wanted to could see Lego's posts.... oh wait, you know what. They DID. Ta-daaaa make your own Social Group. Huh, guess he didn't want to do that. And you're against this, why?

Because I enjoy the weirdness in his posts from time to time.

I think you left some words out, but I get the general idea. The flaw in your logic is the fact that QCDN is hardly a church.

He could have spammed the hell out of his own little social group, and no one would have cared. No one would have to see it who didn't want to. Everything would have been more or less fine. But did he take the solution? No, he lashed out in a childish fashion, and is gone.

I still didn't see any posts where he lashed out in a childish manner...

I mentioned earlier where I only read General discussion. That may be why I never saw a single post that violated any rule. Or perhaps it was due to the excellent work of the Mod staff.

Lego asked me to relay this message to everyone:

I wholeheartedly agree.

Of all the other times people got banned for their individual reasons - this circumstance seems stupid.

That's a pro MS Paint Pikachu if I ever saw one.

E: FREE NEO
with every purchase.
As I mentioned before, I saw no spam (but concede to the fact that it could have been deleted), and I personally don't think posting in caps or being weird should be a bannable offense.

If posting in all caps is all of a sudden a bannable offense, why isn't posting like an illiterate stumped arm retard?
