PS3 is hurting!

Wow, that's how much it should cost to rent a game... They are actually worth renting at that price. When I go into Blockbuster I usually talk myself out of it because I realize $10 is a decent chunk out of a new game.

I hope you guys like MotorStorm better than me though. I typically, like FPS games, don't like racing games to much but I enjoy rally games. However, none have been done right since Top Gear Rally for N64, imo.
It isnt really a rally game. Well it is, but way more over the top than your normal one.

Racing games are only fun if you can somehow destroy your opponent's car; either from weapons(like Mario Cart) or by crashing them into things(Burnout).

That'd be MotorStorm. Tho they respawn, just like you do.

Motorstorm is 1 of the 2 driving games I'm getting this month. It'll be fun I think when I'm in the mood for racing, and when I'm in the mood for something different I'll play Calling all Cars. It's a twisted-metal type 10 dollar game to download from the playstation network, you can play 4 player and play online and all that fun stuff. Made by David Jaffe, guy who did Twisted Metal 1/2 and God of War 1/2. Read his blog, he seems to care more about Calling all Cars than God of War 2, which is kind of funny since CaC is a shrimp of a game in comparison.

Hopefully he'll get to work on God of War 3, that'd get some PS3's sold.

Eh, isn't it only a two part series?

Jaffe said he'll make it if God of War 2 does well.

Edit: Ok he wants to make it regardless of how God of War 2 does, but he's waiting for Sony to give him a development team. Apparently he's already got plans for it months ago for when this Calling all Cars is done and hopefully with God of War 2 it'll make enough of a splash that people will finance the God of War 3.

I don't like the motorstorm demo at all. I like racing games in general, but MS has pretty weird and not good handling to me, and at least the demo is far too punishing - especially in a game where it's fairly entertaining to blow up somehow. One crash usually takes you from 1st to 10th+.

The demo is pretty bland, too. I rarely saw anyone play it more than a minute or so while working at circuit city.

I'd just like to point out that if you check the developer's videos, the engine was initially designed to give you the most realistic driving experience possible. The demo is based on that build. The final release was tweaked to be easier to play and more fun. How that turns out? Dunno, have to play to find out. To me the game feels like road rash with next gen graphics, which is great if you ask me.

Also, think it's funny how the Xbox 360 takes a regular nintendo game like ninja turtles, adds online gameplay to it then charges less than nintendo does for it's virtual console games.

Oh god, this is the sort of things that makes for bad games. God of War 2 ends the story and now, because it's a hit, they go and ruin it by trying to add something that doesn't fit the equation but has the same gameplay. I love God of War and would fully support a release for PS3 but not like this... Make a new game and don't ruin a great one.

One of the few things Nintendo is banking on here is hardcore fans diggin' the idea of having these classics again. The VC, for now, is a fuckin' sham of epic quality. They really need to lower the prices but since people are paying, it's unlikely it'll ever happen.

I don't know... being as God of War 2 isn't out yet we don't know if it will tie into a sequel or not. Considering Jaffe has been talking sequel months before the release, they probably left themselves an option for it in GoW2. Heavenly Sword will give us our PS3 GoW/style fix in June, but a true GoW for PS3 would be a really nice bonus.

VC is really shameful and what's funny is how people on this very board spend 100+ bucks on 16 bit games then call PS3 a dumb investment. Live comes by and creams nintendo on the quaint nostalgia market without even trying. They even have goldeneye and all the rare titles.

I do respect X-box live but the yearly service charge is one of the reasons I picked a Wii instead as my 2nd console. With the premium service it forces down your throat as your main system, it would leave my PS3 for just exclusives which is less than I want it to be. If Xbox's killer exclusives were all offliners I'd have bought the cheap version and gotten the exclusives, but the exclusives seem to all be built around live. In that way, the decision to just buy xbox is a decision to have xbox as your primary console. Considering I've already invested 600+ into my ps3, I'd prefer a 2ndary system I can half ass, like the wii, just buying the system and a few games if I'm bored. I can't imagine Xbox 360 is worth buying just for Dead Rising and GoW offline. Considering the tiny console life of the original xbox which they stopped even making back in 2005, hard for me to justify doubling up the investment on 2 boxes.

If Xbox 360 had a free online service that was comparable to PS3, I'd have bought it already.

I've spent $20. Does that count?

The issue is when does the free start showing it's price. Initially they'll wow you with what you get, but nothing in life is ever really costless. The same applies to the Wii, and I all ready have an idea of how lackluster it'll be, since it's virtually the same service as the DS. Which is pretty shitty. I don't have a problem paying for online play, especially something trivial as $4.25/month. Thats easily managable with change you get throughout a month.

Doing SNES on the ps3 linux? I must admit I stopped that when I realized that I played those games enough when they were new and still plenty of ps2 games worth playing with much more work put into them.

Yeah, and you're doing it illegally.

I know, I do it too. But it's still illegal, and moreso immoral again now that there IS a legal and viable distribution channel for some of those old gems again.

I'd rather not get into the emulation discussion, though. It's really quite pointless.

PS3 service is free because the devs handle the servers not sony. Therefore the cost of multiplayer is built into game price, just like ps2 games. For xbox, microsoft handles all online, which is cheaper for devs but gives them less control. This leads to problems like with EA who like to kill their servers to force customers to buy the next year's product or with UT2k7 and the problems with the game mods.

It's kind of a funny parallel when you look at the ps3 and the blu-ray. Microsoft was saying how they prefer to give their customer's choice, which is why their HD DVD is optional, but they don't give you a choice in online. You buy xbox live or your games are all offline. Now, since you're already paying for xbox live, you might as well buy your crossplatforms for xbox. Oh yeah, and they're all about choice, but you can't choose a blu-ray add-on.

Not really sure where I'm going with all this... just the way it's structured makes it hard for a ps3 owner to buy a 360, since all the titles run off live. I don't want the premium service. Don't really care how many demos I have access to and I damn sure don't need achievement points. I'd like to play 360 games online without needing the premium live service. Then I'd go out and buy one.

I'd like to throw out that the only games I've ever emulated were ones I legitimately own, albeit in a box somewhere covered with dust and no working system to play them on. Not because I had a moral problem with copy-right law, being as I download shitloads of music I haven't bought CDs for, but because these games aren't particularly good by today's standard. The reason I played them was pure nostalgia.

If you actually bought a legit copy, you're allowed to own a rom of it, you don't have to buy it again from the same company just because they stuck it on a different format.

Nintendo already made millions off super mario brothers, I see no reason to pay them again.

It's kind of funny how incorrect you are. Devs have a choice in hosting their own game service, which Silver accounts allow you to play on. Think FFXI and PSU. The UT 3 mods problem comes from allowing custom coding, which could lead to someone throwing a 360 bricking virus in to one.
