PS3 is hurting!

To throw out there, I'm not really happy or anything about 360 not getting Metal Gear Solid 4. I think all games if possible should get ported for all systems. I don't really like how Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony pay money to restrict content on other platforms to force costumers to buy their own platforms. Like I'd buy Halo 3 for PS3 and that'd be 60 bucks Bungee would get and I'm sure many 360 owners would buy ps3 exclusives. Should sell based on the machine itself not how well the companies can cockblock other companies, but at this point that's just not possible.

Well... Bungie developed origionally for the Xbox for Halo, so i guess they like to stick to their roots... and theyre owned by M$ so unless either company buys out the other (lolyaright), it aint happening.

I do agree with you though. As of now alot of console games arent ported to PC, and im pissed!

I'm going to flat out say that a 360 port of Metal Gear Solid is at this point just wishful thinking. He's actually said several times that it's staying a PS3 exclusive, just like FF13 which also gets port rumors. From what I understand they are having trouble fitting everything onto a blu-ray so I doubt they're going to try and release it on 5 DVDs.

Not wishful thinking on my part. I've thought every single MGS after the original PS one was forced. I'm just going off interviews with him. And you're right, he has said it would be a PS3 exclusive, but now, he's not denying it may be ported over after 6 months. Hell, same shit was going on on the original and second but who got them, GC AND Xbox. FF13, never heard those rumors so I can't say anything there but I do know the team that brought us the good FF games and the guys that stepped in with Crono Trigger, now work for Microsoft. As per having trouble fitting games onto Blu-ray, I'm not buying that until I see it. Especially if it's the end-all be-all format Sony is making it out to be.

As per Halo being a Mac game, if it was originally designed for a computer why did it first go to console then years later hit PC's >.> A game being developed for Mac would more easily port over to PC than Xbox. I never read anything about it being for Mac onry Xbox then eventually, like 2, PC.

The only thing that can be said for sure in my opinion is this. These days, it's never enough to just own 2 consoles for anything more than a casual gamer. By owning 2 consoles, you can experience roughly what? 85-95% of quality games on the market?

The first next gen console I bought was a Nintendo wii. I've always been a fan of nintendo. I wouldn't consider myself a fanboy by any means, but would definitely consider myself a loyal customer. I've always bought Nintendo products and systems. Dispite my slight fanboyism, I can honestly say I think the introduction of motion controls on a 'large and successful' scale by Nintendo has impressed me. I do agree it's not being used to its fullest power, but I think it's a fair assumation to believe the remote will be intrigrated into future games more successfully; it's similar to how the more graphics/sound orinated systems reach their potienal as the years pass.

Infact I think some good progress has been made in the likes of Madden 07. This is no doubt in my mind the best madden game to ever be made because of how much the controls enhance the gameplay. They just don't bring me closer into the game, they actually make the gameplay smoother and less complex. I no longer have to memorize what all 10 buttons do in different situations. The controls are natural and feel true and I hope future Wii games can mimic the simple but depthful intrigration of such controls.

This isn't to say I've been fully satisfied by my Wii. It's not that I expected a giant selection of amazing games early on, I understand these things take at least a year to truely get in full swing as did the ps1,ps2,360,etc. The piss poor execution of online or complete lack of online pushed me into the direction to buy my 2nd next gen system, the xbox 360. I've always been a Nintendo fan, and since very very early in PS1's life, a PS fan. I was against the original xbox. I didn't like the image, the games, the controller. I just disliked almost everything about it.

So it's easy to imagine the irony when I was convinencing myself the 360 is an awsome console this past early Janurary. The 360 won me over with zero of my confidence in microsoft as a home console, they just impressed me, simple as that. And to mention paying for online. The gold membership is completely worth it. I would pay 54/year for 'organized' online service on any console rather than pay zero for absolutely horrible online service.

It's true. They were the team that made the Marathon series for the Mac. Halo was originally announced by Steve Jobs back in 1999. Then in 2000, Microsoft bought Bungie up and had it redone for Xbox, delaying the PC version to get people to buy the Xbox. It's dick moves like that that make me really dislike Microsoft. It's just business I guess but... well yeah.

MGS will probably end up on all consoles (minus wii) after a year with whatever remake they do. Like Subsistance, and whatever the one for MGS2 was, which were multiplatform.

I really wouldn't say "Minus Wii." You act like no game has ever been downscaled for another console(sup PS2.)

I mean, if people have gotten Doom 3 to run on a Voodoo II, MGS4 on Wii isn't impossible. If Kojima Productions deems it worthwhile or not, thats another story.

Not everything can be ported to everything. The Wii only has 128 MBs of ram, that will really come up short if something designed specifically for the ps3 or xbox 360 comes to it. Games that come out for the PS2 and Wii are usually purely graphical upgrades on the 360 and PS3. Like, if you look at Marvel Ultimate alliance, what was done gameplay wise that couldn't have been achieved on the super nintendo?

If you think that's a "dick move" how the hell can you live with owning anything Sony?

Also want to point out, Mistwalker does not work for Microsoft. They're already working on a Nintendo DS game and have been testing out PS3.

You're right, they don't "work" for Microsoft. They are financially backed by Microsoft. Seeing as Microsoft doesn't deal with handhelds of course they'll be able to make DS games but unlikely they'll ever make a game for Sony. Right now they just have the DS game and a few 360 titles in the works. If they are testing the PS3, I'd like to see the article because in GI the guy they interviewed made it sound like they had zero interest in the PS3.

He's probably looking at porting considering Blue Dragon sold like... under 200k copies in Japan and that is their home country.

The likely hood of Blue Dragon porting is about as good a chance as me ever owning a castle.

"Hironobu Sakaguchi did have one comment when asked for his thoughts on working with the Sony system. Short and succinct, he said without the aid of a translator, "PS3 is difficult."

I bet we won't see them working with the PS3 anytime soon if at all...

What I meant by the Sony making a dick move thing wasn't ripping off someone... That's a whole other catagory in its own.

You can't sell more japanese copies than there are japanese Xbox 360s. lawl.

They'll work where the money is. There's a big market for Xbox 360 in the US, but other than Elder Scrolls name 1 RPG that did well for either Xbox? Unless Metal Gear Solid fails to sell any PS3s in Japan, which I find fairly impossible, I find a PS3 port of Blue Dragon as likely if not more likely than a 360 port of Metal Gear Solid... especially considering that the creator specifically said that MGS4 would stay a PS3 exclusive and the same was never said of Blue Dragon.

These guys care about their home market more than the US market, even if there's more systems abroad. Notice how they developed Blue Dragon for Japan first and we get it here 9 months later(assuming there's no delays)? 300,000 Japanese Xbox 360s versus millions in the US and we don't get a simultaneous release, or even a few month wait? If you think a PS3 port is out of the question you're kidding yourself. They sold only 130k in Japan...

Edit in here:

Just found out Gears of War is coming to PC. Not a bad bit of news to people holding out on buying a 360.

In order for them to port Blue Dragon to anything other than PC they'd have to find a new publisher... The likely hood of that happening are so slim it could hide behind an Ethiopian. Microsoft's consoles haven't had to many RPG games, much less good ones, but the 360 is slated for a bunch of good exclusive ones. That could change everything.

I aknowledge the fact he had earlier dismissed claims of it being ported. However, he's no longer denying it. He's doing that whole I'm not sure/maybe/possibly one day routine. Remember back in the day how hardcore Sony was about the whole series being PS onry then under the radar slipped MGS 1 and 2 for Xbox and GC.

On topic of markets:

GameInformer said:
Blue Dragon is seen as Microsoft's trump card in Japan, and initial sales figures seem to be very positive. Did you approach the gamewith a Japanese audience in mind?

Hironobu Sakaguchi said:
As was the case with Final Fantasy, I am less concerned with the target audiencewhen creating games. I believe in the "enjoyment" and "fun" that transcends age and nationality, and I just thought about sticking to the direction that was very clear in my mind

Simultaneous release is retarded for any game developer to do unless they are in the MMO business. Would you leave a game rotting in your shipping bay while you localized another version of the game? If the answer is yes, you fail at economics. Also, of course they'd develop it for Japan first the same as Americans would because it's easier to develop in your native speak/systems.

300,000 Japanese Xbox 360s versus millions in the US and we don't get a simultaneous release, or even a few month wait? If you think a PS3 port is out of the question you're kidding yourself. They sold only 130k in Japan...

I'm going to rule a port out simply because sales numbers do not, majorally, cause ports, who published the game, and who backs the company. If a system fails its first time like the Xbox did in Japan, then you know it's going to have a hard time picking up steam its second effort. The 360 is already starting to pick up over there with Gears finally being released recently. It actually broke the top ten list over there and that's saying something for a majorally anti shooter/FPS market (which, mind you, the xbox consoles are greatly about). It's only a matter of time and RPG's before they open up. I bet by the time Lost Odysee hits, Microsoft will have redeemed themselves with Japan.

Just found out Gears of War is coming to PC. Not a bad bit of news to people holding out on buying a 360.

I hope they fix the fuckin' online stuff. Nothing like getting a perfectly aligned headshot for it to go straight through the head as if it where never there. The way they handle Gears online on the 360 makes me hope they do not rush and actually put some care into UT3. Seeing as how they said they wanted UT3 to be their big MLG title, they probably will take better measures to release a better product.

Simultaneous release is retarded? Xbox360 and NintendoWii both did a simultaneously release worldwide for their systems and launch titles. Nintendo's been doing simultaneous releases for most of their titles except for VC, which is a joke anyway. FF12 was ported to the US in 5 months and we're lucky to see Blue Dragon 9 months later?

On top of that, Xbox is never going to catch up in Japan, cause unlike in the US, the Japanese really give a shit about a company's track record. They like Nintendo and Sony for not killing their old console to push their new console. In the US, killing Xbox, stopping production, stopping support, stopping making any decent games for it, causes millions to buy the Xbox 360, in Japan it causes millions to laugh at Xbox and not consider buying their shit, knowing that in 2 years the same thing might happen to 360 owners when the Xbox 720 comes out.

On top of this, 360 being pushed to a whole 300k didn't seem to help Blue Dragon sitting at a whole 130k sold. The Japanese who are buying a 360 aren't doing it for RPGs, they're doing it because they're a small part of the market that like FPS, hence GoW is what got the console to 300k. The RPG hungry Japanese are waiting for an RPG to upgrade their PS2 in mass.

And if they don't recoup their Blue Dragon losses in the US launch, which requires a lot of sales I don't really think they're guaranteed... they're going to be looking at the PS3 much harder. Also, forget about that stupid interview. People make video games to sell games while making quality products they can put their name on. No game maker wants a great game nobody buys.

Umm, no? On the Wii's end, South Korea is still waiting and Europe was behind, if I remember right. On the 360's end, Wikipedia says it best, "The Xbox 360 was released on November 22, 2005, in the United States and Canada; December 2, 2005, in Europe and December 10, 2005, in Japan. It was later launched in Mexico, Colombia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, India, Brazil, Poland, and Czech Republic. Microsoft has additionally announced official launches in: Hungary, Slovakia,[10] and the Philippines.[11]"

FF12 was ported to the US in 5 months and we're lucky to see Blue Dragon 9 months later?

Blue Dragon is simply a much, much a bigger game. Also, they aren't just changing languages so you have bad voice over acting... They are changing music, lyrics, and all sorts of things. Besides, who gives a shit? It'll be out when they're done with it and it'll be a better product if they take their time. It's not a race...

On top of that, Xbox is never going to catch up in Japan, cause unlike in the US, the Japanese really give a shit about a company's track record.

Unlike the U.S.? Are you kiddin' me? Looks at me, prime example of caring. I wont buy a PS3, I wont support Blu-ray, and in whole I wont support Sony again, ever, probably.

I wasn't aware that the Microsoft killed their console anymore so than Nintendo killed off the GC and Sony killed off the PS2. I think you're just fishing hard for excuses here but there is no point in it. 360 launched in '05, it's time for Xbox to die by '06...

On top of this, 360 being pushed to a whole 300k didn't seem to help Blue Dragon sitting at a whole 130k sold. Blue Dragon sold more consoles than GoW, fact.

Also, forget about that stupid interview. People make video games to sell games while making quality products they can put their name on. No game maker wants a great game nobody buys.

Without going out and making a lot of absurb comments about the PS3 earlier to point out it's weaknesses where the other two boys prevail, I'll do it here. No developer wants to make a game for a console no one wants to buy. In Japan it sold okay but the numbers are still, weak.

If you want to toss numbers and whatnot, you can't side for the PS3, at this current time, and win... you can't pick a country and go off its sucess, alone, to deem the console a sucess, it doesn't work that way. Looking at the market as a whole, the PS3, for now, fails. Anyone who makes a dollar between now and two months from now, will have made more money than Sony's gaming division. Case... closed.

there is still plenty of time for Sony to turn things around and for the sake of the PS3's price tag, they better but for now... this is all true.

You're the anomaly, much like FPS lovers in Japan

What was the last Xbox game to come out? I'll bet it came out around the same time as the 360 launch. They're not making hardware for it either, wheras i can stil buy brand new Memory cards and controllers for the PS ONE.

And it still didnt sell that much, if any.
